  • Poor? How on earth can you call that poor? I've seen Ritche play live many times too and this is awesome! But hey! You're entitled to your opinion

  • I LOVE Ritchie. THis was a poor performance. I've seen him live many times and this one doesn't stand up.

  • almost like The Beatle :X

  • Ritchie is one of the top 10 best guitar players in the history.

  • Its fuckin sad ritchie not in the rock n roll hall of shame!!!!!!

  • This is'nt his strat, pretty sure he always played this song on his 335,sounds like it(wring that neck)

  • Ritchie is the reason why I play guitar. Thank you, Mr. Blackmore.

  • Tak brzmi najlepszy Stratocaster w rękach najlepszego gitarzysty no i oczywiście najlepszej kapeli wszechczasów jaką była Deep Purple

  • just can't beat the sharp edge sound of that Strat. It's funny how 40+ years later no one comes close to that menacing tone

  • I just hate categorization of guitar players, each one is so different they all have there own style. Page, Blackmore, Stevie Ray, Hendrix,etc.. are all so different, at least to my ears!!

  • During the early '60's Ritchie was known as the fastest player around - no-one could touch him as far as speed was concerned. He was also the major contributor to Deep Purple's music. After Concerto and Gemini Suite, Jon Lord hardly seemed to contribute any original material.

  • boring old style rambling. Hendrix, Page even Clapton were much better and I am not a Clapton fan. Blackmore is more overrated then Ali.

  • @mustangbob351w Im a HUGE hendrix, page and clapton fan, and in general don't like technical speed playing that much, but I CANNOT justify calling blackmore overrated...he's probably one of the most underrated guitarists ever

  • @mustangbob351w

For me his musicality rocks some amazing solos in the 70's, I agree this solo is not the most exciting. Put into context though his music I still listen to now often 40 years later

  • I am sorry but his playing is to me rambling. I like all styles but just can't understand his playing just noise. The bands he played with sound great, but I just don't get him. My guitar teacher was the best guitar player I have ever saw live, including Van Halen, Via, Satriani, ect, unbelievable to watch, he told me that he loved Blackmores playing??? Everyone likes different things. I like simple to extreme as long as there is melody and rhythm to it.

  • @mustangbob351w I know! My guitar teacher, and many FAMOUS and BADASS players say the same thing! Some of his stuff is BADASS, though!

  • @mustangbob351w his early days generally were him trying to cram as many notes into a bar as possible (which isnt bad, believe me)... I'd check some of his later stuff like when he played with rainbow, check out their live stuff (particularly the 1977 german stuff, all the way through to the 1995 "rockpalast" gigs)..I will part with this: Ritchie is one of the only players in history that can be recognised simply by the sound of his playing than having to watch a video with it

  • shoot, i get the goosebumps whenever i listen to ritchie...the man's a legend!

  • Hi I wish you success

  • terming steve morse as just a 'shredder' is a little bit harsh. he's so much more. shredders are marti friedman, michael angelo...and all these modern day prog metal tits like firewind, dragonforce, symphony x ..blah blah blah...millions of notes, stoopid hair and no feel whatsoever.

    pass the butter

  • @PROFBOTULISM I agree! (except for the stupid hair part! Rock and Roll IS LONG HAIR!!!) And much, much more!

  • @PROFBOTULISM Its an art to love without hating,,,,,,,

  • car

  • Blackmore does not and have never "shredded"....... Listen to Steve Morse if you want to hear a "shredder" (not that i dont like Steve ;-) )

  • hey you guys out there.....when people hear this kind of music back in my isolated and secluded village, there's nothing in their mind to say that this is singapore....singapore.....singapore......singapore.....

  • Okey, lets get serious, Blackmore is just like Hendrix, they were in their time, the best, they both came with new and crazy things. Blackmore sounds are excelent and he was a very good shredder... but... Actually, i think there are a lot of better guitarists, not Yngwie only, i understand Yngwie's fascination, every band have been inspired in an older one.... If malmsteen loves Ritchie, why not to get some sounds of him and make them sound better? please, we are musicians, no monkeys.

  • @xmiku10 Hendrix really wasn't the shredder that Blackmore was. Ritchie says he admired him not so much for technical prowess, but as an inovator in psycadelia.

  • Blackmore and Malmsteen are the same personality type which may lead some to think one is 'imitating' the other when in fact stage persona and such are natural - besides in every facet of human life it is monkey see monkey do - even un or subconsciously.

  • Mandrake Root

  • @SmileyGarrish Wring That Neck

  • @IlRezzonico thanks it has been a long time.......

  • Gillan is insulting Ritchie here, by announcing the keyboard player right after a big guitar solo.

  • @charlessavarese Hey, the organ on that is killer. Blackmore was awesome as a guitarist, but Jon Lord's keyboards drove the piece (and indeed the band) forward.

  • Everyone posts solos that they call "Crazy" and the "Best Blackmore solo ever" but none of them are even close to his best live stuff. Go out and buy Live in Koln (Cologne) 1976. EPIC and SUPER CLEAN solos. The first one on Catch The Rainbow (around 2:30 I think) will make you tear up. Pure beauty.

  • @afi0931 i know the concert you talkin about, but i think this is moer like a sample of how insane blacker's could play. i mean, he's shredding in 1969! lol

  • @afi0931 Is there such live stuff with stargazer on it?

  • My favourite guitar hero. No one comes close to him, 'cept for Iommi and Hendrix.

  • alittle sloppy but never the less the first shredder of his kind and the best

  • Live in Amsterdam Masters from the Vaults Song Wring That Neck

  • Which bootleg is this my friend????

  • this only sounds differant cause blackmore was using a telecaster at the time.

  • @djbrooks11 Actually a Gibson es335. But I could be wrong.......

  • I love Blackmoore to death. He falls into a unique category of guitarist in my mind, one of the most inspirational greatest and worst guitar players of all time at once.i love some solos, hate most his solos, most original axe men of all time.live he could be brilliant beyond words or a fucking mess of noise making, like an avaunt guard artist,he really never gave a shit about pleasing his audience.he was unpredictable and a pain to his great band members over the years.speed freak of all time !

  • The first (and to this day, the best) shredder!!

  • this is not an improvisation, it's the usual guitar part that ritchie made to start a improvisation, he would do it 3 o 4 times during wring that neck as a bridge to improvise, you can hear it on the DP appearence on granada tv or in the california jam, when he uses this part to do one of the greatest improvisations ever, the speed here is unbelievable, rithcie is god, no doubt about it

  • Lol @ the picture at the beginning

  • 0:06 - 0:07 ARARRAR

  • can anyone tab the lick that starts at :17? it's so fast i cant tell how many notes there are.

  • @jmscoopy Of course not.. Do you mean 0:17 - 0:39 ?!?!!!

  • is this a joke

  • @rtfan13 why???

  • @edgarrg94 sounds a bit funny

  • @rtfan13 Ok haha, the solo sounds funny???

  • By 1969 only a few rock guitar players could play like this .. probably Alvin Lee and someone else .. if I'm not wrong this is Ritchie playing his beautifull Gibson 335 red cherry .. the gig I'm not sure as I've listened to so many concerts ... but it sounds like Royal Albert Hall prior the Concerto. Nice to listen to after so many years ...

  • I've seen Blackmore 7 times but wish I could've seen him do this song. It's amazing and doesn't get the credit it deserves. Maybe when they reform....

  • Blackmore played in the sixties sweeping and fast picking which are now considered the shred techniques. Malmsteen didn´t add anything new that Ritchie didn´t already had done in sixties. Only Jason Becker took sweeping to new heights and progressed shred playing towards more musical direction. Stanley Jordan was only one who advanced the musical possibilities with tapping technique i think more than Eddie Van Halen.

  • blackmore kicks malmsteens ass sure yngwie can play fast but he does not have the feel or emotion blackmore has thats why yngwie will never be as good as the king blackmore

  • @shredmaster100

Without Blackmore there could never have been a malmsteen. (not to mention Uli Roth (harmonic minors and arpeggio sweeps)

  • @shredmaster100 Well said mate. I've never heard a solo like 'Lay Down Stay Down' from the Burn album, so so so expressive, just a strat cranked with no distortion.

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHH Ritchie,.. U da freakin Man!!!!!!

  • this is how an electric guitar should be played and sound.... a guitar and amp and not with a thousand rack effects to cover up his mistakes...

    long live blackmore

  • did he said John Boham? at the end

  • @sharingan41 "Jon Lord on the organ, yeah. Jon Lord..."

  • @sharingan41 No, he said Jon Lord.

  • Early yngwie's tone is absolutely from ritchie blackmore

  • ¡¡Ritchie Blackmore ,The best guitarist ever & ever. No battles, he is the best ¡¡

  • @ValHallaOdinsCourt Either your pride corrupts you, or you have no musical sense at all.

  • Not trying to start a fight. But think about how much Hendrix revolutionized the guitar. How much better he was than anyone else in his era... If he had influences like we have today, I think he'd be way better than them, in musical theory skill. Remember he was self taught too. I think he is better then them just because how much he did for it all, musically. Please dont get angery, it's only an opinion, any other comments are apprecited.

  • @MrZechlin your right, not only that but he evolved musically too he was amazin

  • @MrZechlin yea he was amazing, it would have been cool for him and ritchie to do a show together, they couldve been good friends

  • @MrZechlin

Hendrix died at like 25! Or younger. Imagine if he had spent his 20s and 30s refining what he was doing, with all of that raw talent and imagination....oh my God.

  • @PositivelyBored

Especially in view of the fact that Jimi's career was only 3 yrs long.

  • He played the same over and over again..

  • 5 stars

  • over played when it was cool to over-play...Ok for 69...Blackmore was a very bi-polar player....either he was on or just fucked around ,pissed off all night....this is ,again,OK for 69.Laters

  • @austingunsmoke Name me one guitarist better then Richie Blackmore in 1969, sorry but Hendrix doesnt cut it. Get back to me when u figure it out

  • @Headbanger9000 no point in me naming a guitarist that's on the same level as Blackmore or better in 1969 because it's all a matter of taste, opinion, and actual knowledge of guitar and you've already stated(in so many words) you have blinders on when it comes to Blackmore so though I can name a dozen players for you I'll just get some B.S. reply back.U didn't even hear my comment anyway.I love Blackmores best stuff but not all.Laters.

  • @Headbanger9000 Hendrix, Hendrix and Hendrix. The best guitarist ever.

  • @snakeweirdo Sorry but Hendrix is over rated, he may have been one of the most importent guitarists but Jimmy Page, Yngwie Malmsteen, Ritchie Blackmore, John Petrucci, Al Di Meola, and Steve Vai make Jimmi Hendrix look like shit in terms of talent and just music in general

  • @Headbanger9000 I disagree. Hendrix beat them all musically, at least. He doesn't play as fast as Malmsteen but there's MUCH more feel to it. And he beats them all technically because of the way he invented his playing style, which is much more complex and innovative than others. For example, the way he controls feedback. Amazing.

Hendrix is, and was, the best guitarist ever to have walked this earth. And he remains so.

  • @snakeweirdo hendrix was not the best (every good guitarist has his style) but he was definently the most innovative and so was blackmore by the way

  • @Headbanger9000 ok i disagree. HEndrix is amazing. If anyone is overated its definately jimmy page. sloppy, but a good song writer

  • hard to believe hes playing shitty middle age music now...

  • oops! get on with it!!!!

  • Fantastic, Good solo!

  • the best : blackmore !

  • Great stuff.Thank you for posting...

  • What a great guitarist. Love the pics! 5/5 rating and i sub'd you

  • Ritchie owned the stage. Best live guitarist ever.

  • well....I love Cream....love the Experience.....Sweet's Andy Scott.....Mountain.....Michael Schenker.....Uli Jon Roth.....David Menneketti from Y&T.....Page........but.....NOBODY COULD TAKE ON RITCHIE....NO ONE!!! HE IS NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!!

  • "invented all the sounds blackmore is using here"

    yah, sure. lol

  • LoL fuck off!

  • NO COMMENT!!!!!!!!

  • Have you seen an part of vid where ritchie plays was it blacknight with guitar behind his back? Ritchie is an god!

  • Ritchie the real master of the Strats! It is known to all!!

  • @z603dauren : not disagreeing with you, but I think he's playing his old red 335 in this audio clip.

  • You right! It s gibsons era! I ve missed it!!

  • one of the most influential guitarist.Respect.

  • Ritchie is aggressive when he solos.

I like aggressive...especially when the aggressiveness is coming through his guitar.

  • This video proves that Ritchie is very fast too.

  • Where is this at?

  • blackmore speaks with the guitar!

  • @juliaanrock no, he makes the guitar speak to us.

  • It's pretty common knowledge that Malmsteen hopes to die and return as Blackmore, in his next life. His whole stage persona is modeled after the Blackmore image. Same hair style, type of clothes, and stage moves. He may be faster than Ritchie, but not more tasteful.

  • holy words man, holy words.

  • I tnink he isn't faster than Ritchie.

You can't get faster than Blackmore.

But Malmsteen is as fast as Blackmore.

    Botn are great!!!!!!!!!

  • very true. i wouldnt mind comming back as ritchie either

  • @charlessavarese Oh, quit pickin on Malmsteen.

  • @charlessavarese But what yngvie does is not music, it's just blur.

  • @charlessavarese same guitar too

  • @charlessavarese As far as stating that Blackmore has more taste than Yngwie I agree 100% Yngwie forgets it isn't how fast you play, but the notes you do play coupled with the notes you DON'T play.

  • @charlessavarese You nailed it

  • @charlessavarese Not to mention that Malsmteen's famous favourite Stratocaster is almost a copy of Blackmore`s favourite guitar: a yellow cream color Fender scalloped (another imitation of Ritchie's) stratocaster.

  • @charlessavarese My thoughts exactly! Saw Malmsteen a few years ago.. He just wanted to copy Blackmore; The sound, attitude, even clothes!

  • @charlessavarese Im sorry but Ritchie will never even come close to Yngwie.

  • @charlessavarese

    Not to mention the scalloping.

  • @charlessavarese Give Malmsteen a break. First, the guy can really play well. He's got great hands, and gets a great tone. Every musician has their "heroes". Some are just more copied and obvious than others. Yngwie was playing better and more tasteful at 9 years old than most guitar players ever will. And I'm not even that big of fan. But it's obvious that he's good and he has some very tasteful licks. I thought he ruled that G3 video (as did Fripp!)

  • it may be not blackmore's best solo, but you all must pay attention to one detail. THIS SOLO WAS MADE IN 1969!! it was years ahead its time! shredding guitarists wouldn't appear 'til the mid-70's. that's why blackmore is such a genius!

  • hahah, very funny...

  • Wring that neck, i love that song

  • Sails of Charon

  • Give me an example of Uli playing something Blackmore could not.

  • Ritchie was/is original and one of the most underrated guitarists ever. There are only 12 notes in all of music and you don't have to play them fast to be great...but he can do both!!!!

  • Yeah, i've heard of those.

  • If one thinks i have to play better than this (and i do) to have an opinion that Blackmore sux, is mistaken.

  • Well, I know your type, as I've seen it all too often on YouTube and various forums over the years.

You claim to be a badass guitarist, yet when people want to hear your playing, the audio or video clips are nowhere to be found.

    Why?

Because you will undoubtedly claim that it's beneath you to upload clips to prove how good a player you are, or that you don't have time, or some other handy excuse.

If you really were that good, it shouldn't be that hard to simply prove it.

  • @glezzery62 Yeah, technically you are faster than Ritchie. But you have no feeling in your playing. And you've written nothing that is loved by millions all over the world. Time you showed some respect. You suck dude!

  • Ever heard of opinions? Ass hole.

  • I think you're wrong, but just so that I can be sure, please show me some videos or songs to illustrate your point. Uli's the guy who ripped off Ritchie Blackmore before Yngwie did, right? TYou think you can play better than Blackmore? I'm laughing so hard at that.

  • Uli Roth didn't rip off Blackmore. They sounded quite different, and while Malmsteen was influenced by both Roth and Blackmore, he doesn't sound like either of those players.

Those claiming Malmsteen sounds like Blackmore, I seriously wonder if they are listening or if they're just repeating what others have said.

  • You are joking to put Ritchie in with Clapton surely? Have you not heard Clapton at his best?

  • Yeah, it's not even close to Blackers' best.

  • what some idiots forget (glezzery62) is that this was the beginning of 'guitar solo's' that we all know today. Blackmore is the master

  • You poor son of a bitch, let us hear you play some

  • NOOB.

  • What? These guys are NOT better!Ritchie is the best ever!Watch some Rainbow Live in Munich! And California Jam was FACE MELTING!

  • he's got a style, why's that a problem? :)

  • JAJAJA your you are an authentic idiot ritchie blackmore, it is a good guitar and if your you are musical you know it. perhaps blackmore was satriani neither the less vai but their form to improvise and its wild technique were of better ls in 70' ,My God we are speaking of 70' !

that but you want at that time? or perhaps you praise to Jimmy Page? I believe that if and if you like but Jimmy that Ritchie, Ritchie kicks the buttock to him. jajaja sucker...

  • And so your favorite guitar players are?

  • of course it is ritchie blackmore! don't you hear the ian gillan's voice on ending? and you can't say: "it is another line-up", because Deep Purple only performed Wring That Neck in the early years (1968 to 1970), and Gillan entered in 1969 and Blackmore is a founding member

  • I'm pretty sure this is ritchie. i know that when people try to imitate blackmore they manage to imitate some of his stylistic cues and it sounds similar, but this sounds too much like him. also, if you dont think its that good, remember, they had great shows and a few OK shows, so this could be (in your opinion) one of the OK shows.

  • It is Ritchie. You can hear it from sound. Nobody else can't play like him. This is solo is not bad at all (remember that it is probably improvised). Ritchie is playing Gibson ES335 in this so maybe it doesn't sound like "normal Blackmore".

  • wow!

  • jesus just slow down and it would sound great...

  • no one can teach master! ;P

  • dude ritchie was all about speed. so he wont slow down. the word slow and ritchi'es first name should not be in the same sentence

  • jk31213: You don't know, what are you talking about... lol Ritchie was all about speed:-D

  • i just dont understand y kcor said slow down the solo. u just...dont do that.

  • ritchie is not all about speed at all. He plays with extreme high emotion. listne to the solo of highway star, smoke on the water(made in japan version), strange kind of woman, and burn. wat are u talkin about.

  • I love this!

  • RITCHIE - GOD OF THE GODS

  • That is............TOTALLY SICK!!!

  • who is malmsteen really?

  • Excelente, magnífico, y eso lo hizo en el 69 hace 40 años, son dioses de la guitarra, ésta gente está a parte de la música. Encima infravalorados por todo el mundo.
