I hope Americans wake up, and realize they have been conned and tricked by people like Bush and McCain. McCain doesn't care if your child needs a heart operation. He is against universal health care. He is married to a rich heiress, and the taxpayers pay for his health care. The Neo-Con Republicans just want to make billionaires even richer, at the expense of everyone else. They lied to start phony wars. They looted the Treasury, and shredded the Constitution. Record debt. Terrible economy.
D) When this ad says $1000 for families for gas, it implies that all families get this. This is not true, if you research this you find that it is only a small percentage of families. I don't think this is good policy either, but again that's not the point of this post.
Both sides make misleading ads. I am not a huge supporter of either candidate and I don't know who I am going to vote for, but everyone please be cautious and take all campaign ads with a grain of salt. Don't blindly follow any candidate. Your duty to your country isn't to vote... it is to vote as an informed citizen. You are doing everyone a disservice if you don't inform yourselves of the facts and then go vote anyways.
We export 70% of our domestic oil anyway. Offshore drilling will take years to have an effect at the gas pump. This is why offshore drilling won't drop gas prices. $1000 is a nice step, but it's only a small piece of the puzzle. Wanna know another piece of the puzzle? NASCAR recommends that you check your tire pressure to make sure you don't lose gas mileage. Food 4 thought.
And the oil companies won't build the added tax into the price? Don't be a fool... Obama is a socialist that wants to redistribute wealth. It won't work.
did you actually read what you just typed? He wants to redistribute wealth? thats bad because? What was McCain's definition of wealthy again... you know whats funny.. the same people who told everyone not to vote for Bush are the SAME
why are "so-called" Conservative so quick to call people that dont agree with them names .. oh your a socialist.. you liberal.. your such a communist .. You left-wing facist ..uuh he's from the Far Left.. Grow up name callin is what little kids do my five year old does the same thing , next your goin to call Obama a poopy head.lol
Windfall profits taxes aren't supposed to lower the price of oil...who the fuck told you that? The price of oil is up because speculators want it to be...not because of "supply and demand" The republicans know drilling won't do shit...they are just trying to keep their seats in november. If it was "supply and demand" why hasn't the new drilling of china and brazil lowered the prices?
I dont think that tax rebates are enough. We've been using oil for only 100 years or so to fule our cars. Its time we look to a new source. Ethanol... however if we divert corn towards ethanol production it will cause an increase in the price of beef and chicken which rely on corn as feed. Instead we should legalize industrial hemp wich could be used to both feed animals and also create the enzymes needed to make ethanol.
Gold ole Juan McSame, he really knows how to listen to the big oil companies and follow their directions. He has even been given the good seal of approval by Cheney. What else could America want out of a President?
During critical times we need a LEADER, FDR encouraged innovations and recycling of scrap metal during WWII, the British powered vehicles with waste carbon monoxide from factories, the Japanese auto industry responded to their oil crisis by developing the best hybrid vehicles and have thus crushed their American gas guzzling counterparts namely GM and Ford, it is time we woke up and embraced change and innovation. lets us fight the status quo and lobbyists.
A windfall profits tax will only raise oil prices, which is what Obama wants, he said so. His energy policies won't work, he doesn't want to drill NOW OR EVER, but we need to drill NOW in the OCS and ANWR while we work on finding alternatives that are cost effective and practical.
Drilling in ANWR and OCS won't help us now, and will only reduce the cost of oil by 13 cents ten years from now when that oil actually gets to the refineries.
From a non-partisan engineer's standpoint, I must say that the technology to power our nation on clean energy is available NOW, waiting to be implemented. We are "the land of big ideas".
Yeah, McCain's energy plan is kind of a joke...Obama plans to actually start making progress, by stating actual figures and having a detailed, thorough plan.
Very good ad. Not the low road like McCain, but striking at his relationship to Oil companies.
I think it is a bad idea, because instead of using money on getting more oil, we should use that money to create and develope other and more green sources of energi. The drilling question is a question on where should we focus our money to get the most and the best out of them.
The only thing is that Oil Companies are sitting on leases of 68 MILLION ACRES of land. they won't drill because they need the price to stay up. Even if we drill the oil goes to the World Oil Market--it could be sold to Russia or China. ANWR and off-shore drilling is being used as a wedge issue.
If the oil companies would give up some of their leases or drill them, then it would make sense...this is just a land grab for future profits.
So I take it that you're not in favour of relying on alternative, renewable energy options? Do you like paying high prices at the gas pump? Are the words "conservation" and "environment" totally erased from your vocabulary? Do you prefer to drive a Hummer over having clean air and safe drinking water?
WTF? I have made the same comment twice a couple of hours apart and at least 12 hours ago. After hitting "Post Comment" I am told that my comment is awaiting moderation. Since when are comments moderated?
Neither will solve the problem. Rebates are not the solution in dealing with energy crisis. Its not about being able to afford gasoline. Its about cutting down on consumption.
The majority of vehicles on US roads have 6+ cylinders. Why not focus on the auto industry and impose upon them to regulate production. Look up the documentary titled "Who killed the electric car?" and you will know what I mean.
McCain will get less than 40% of the vote in November and probably closer to 30%. He is everything we never did or will need in a President. Obama has this election handed to him. Republicans just gave it away by choosing McCain instead of Ron Paul.
I'm not an american myself, but I've heard this and that about these candidates.
I've heard nothing bad about Obama, other than republicans not taking him seriously.
How can people even consider McCain?
I guess the answer to that question is the same as how Bush got re-elected...
Oh well, I hope Obama wins and that he turns the country around. It'll be a nicer USA to visit in a year or two, as I plan on going there again in '09 :)
McCain campaign in my opinion took a very horrible downfall esp. after he stated that Obama was like Britney or Paris Obama's campaign day by day is gaining popularity and ads like these are only making his road of becoming the enext president of the U.S. stronger
Daisy Girl WAS appropriate in 1964. Republican candidate Barry Goldwater said he would give field commanders discretion in the use of nuclear weapons.
Neither is the solution. The rebate would not solve the dependency on fossil fuel - which is the real issue. It not about being able to afford it. Its about cutting down on its consumption. The majority of vehicles on the road have 6+ cylinders. A good start would be promoting 4 cylinder vehicles and imposing these changes on the auto industry. Do the math. Face reality - the average "middle class" American consumes 6x of resources vs. an individual from a 3rd world country.
I don't really like the negative ads. Why can't we just respond to the criticism, brush off the stupid stuff, and be more focused on OUR work to take our country in a more positive direction?
i believe that Barack Obama is America's and the World's answer to the change that needs to happen before we regret the decisions that we have made. I'm voting for Barack because i believe he is the answer. And I believe he is ready to lead our great country!
McCain is a perfect example of no change from the current Bush Administration. He is a tool of big oil(thats why he wants to drill at home) and inflation will go up higher
It costs money to obtain oil. Very simple. The oil companies would lose money to Barack. The oil companies will obtain less oil. Now here's a little lesson called supply and demand. If the oil company obtains LESS oil, what happens to the price of oil?
Now if we fund the oil companies, they will have more money, to obtain more oil, and more oil does what to the price?
If our country needs to break the oil habit, who's gonna get us a new energy source? Rock Star Barack? No, the energy companies
wouldnt that drive up demand??, obama try this, awarding tax breaks to car companys who build more fuel efficient vehicles which would, over time, lower Americas dependence on foreign oil...
Windfall profits tax ought to be quick and well accepted practice in dealing with multi-national corporations. Legislation needs to be as aggressive toward them as they feel free to be toward our economy, our sovereignty, and our wages.
As a native Louisianian, I'm of the opinion that offshore drilling should be left to the State whose waters the drilling occurs. Offshore drilling is already legal off the coasts of five states (Alaska, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama) with the royalty revenues being divided amongst all 50 states. If Obama takes the stance of allowing State choice and all revenue going to those states, then Louisiana and Mississippi are his in November. Geaux Obama!
I think Obama may be a little low in his estimate of how much McCain is willing to give the oil companies. What is it worth to them to gain control over some more off shore area?
that's what i'm talkin' about. i think cindy is hiding the real payoffs. that's why we don't ever see her tax records. until we get these crooked sleaze bags out of government, we will be held hostage by the special interests that control them. my most sincere hope is that barack will restore sanity to the whitehouse, and freedom to our people. america has become a sick, twisted and sad mockery of itself. mccain is the poster boy for everything that went wrong.
I don't see how giving people less of a reason to supply oil will cause oil prices to fall. One of the strange (and universally true) rules in economics is the best way to get low prices is to allow people to charge high ones. Incentives matter.
They just made 12 billion in profits and mccain wants to give them even more???
WHY? When families are struggling McCain is so out of touch he wants to help his corporate friends and throws blue collar hard working Americans under the bus!
I don't think McCain understand ecnomics either, since he is trying to sell a tire guage you can get a Walmart for a buck, for $25. Anyone that would pay that for a guage probably doesn't have to check their own tires.
I'm not sure this is the best policy proposition, but nobody's perfect. I mean the Republicans - well, I'll keep this comment clean. ;) I invite you to respond to other opinions on the matter of windfall profit-taxing in your next video. The best oil strategy might just be a mix of different tactics that serve one larger energy strategy - which I've yet to believe exists. I'd like to know more details about your own larger strategy. Could you as well explain the economic impacts of such tactics?
McCain is a despirate, jealous old man who is about to cry because he does not get all of the attention Obama has recieved. If he did get the attention, he would not be complaining though, I can assure you. McCain will continue where the Bush Administration will leave off. We do not need another Bush, We need Change! Vote for Change! Vote for Obama!
Great video! Good job, Obama campaign! Power to the people:-) Let's stop feeding big oil; they've had their years of record profits. Now can we fill our tanks and our kids mouths without going broke for a few years?
About time!!!! I've been waiting for the Obama camp to run ads like this. We dems won't win this election being nice. Playing nice won't work against the rep. machine. Plz, keep them coming!!! The american public needs to be constantly reminded of the truth for it not to repeat what we saw in 2004.
Oil fell to under $120 a barrel (lowest since May) drop of 18% off high, adding to the downward pressure on oil was a speech by Barack Obama in which he proposed selling 70 million barrels of oil from US strategic reserves to lower petrol prices. From BBC News
The oil companies will not sacrifice a dime in profits. I am not in favor of tax cuts or catering to big oil in any way. However, any added taxes will simply be passed on to the consumer.
The Republicans like Elizabeth Dole and John McCain are arguing for "exploration" in places like ANWAR and off our coasts because they want to flip real estate before Bush leaves office... They have no designs on lowering gas prices like they say... Taxing Windfall profits, closing the Enron Loophole and minimizing the speculations market will make gas prices go down... not chewing up our natural resources.
I can't say I approve of the "windfall" tax, or of the proposed tax rebate at a time when we are deficit spending. But, still better than McCain's tax cuts for oil, or than being beholden to the oil companies.
Exactly. We finally seem to understand that this ain't a Rocky movie. As the last two weeks have shown, you can't keep taking blows without falling. You have to hit back.
I must say that this is the ad from Obama that I don't think suits his personality the best and I hope it doesn't take Obama camp into fighting back with McCain in the old fashionate or a bit more negative way, because I think he just isn't like that. He seems extremely positive and honest to me.
McCain has been fooling a lot of people with his "we need to drill off the coast" rhetoric.
Even T. Boone Pickens says we can't drill our way out of this. Why would we want to take a chance on devastating our shorelines when it would have no effect on gas prices?
We're getting reamed by oil companies ($50 BILLION in profit last quarter) and McCain wants to reward them by letting them hold more leases on government land? Let's make them develop more of the 68 MILLION acres already leased first.
Finally Obama is starting to change the conversation from whatever John McCain wants to the fact that we had 8 years in hell and McCain will mean 4 more years of that.
We don't need to tax the oil companies any more than they already are! We tax 50% of the gasoline already. If anything start reducing the gas tax and start drilling more! More nuclear power!
that's it Barack! You need to get more aggressive on McCain, cause unfortunately that's what people respond to. Stay above his level, and don't lie or smear or say anything tasteless, but you must hammer all of his flaws into our heads, and with more CREATIVE ads. This is a start. I wish you luck! You're still an inspiration to me, win or lose( and I know you'll win!).
bravo finally an ad that tells the truth about mccain, now how about one regarding his disdain for women, his chelsea joke, his rape joke, the guy is a fool. Obama for President, finally a leader we can believe in!!!!!
People want FACTS not frivelous attacks. To quote Kathy Hilton on the ad using her daughter:
" It is a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign. It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs. And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next President of the United States."
Funny because the Hiltons donated the maximum to McCain.
It's funny how a lot of republicans will be upset that poor people get welfare, when big oil and alike receive WAY more welfare than any single mom that struggling.
If you truly care about frivolous spending, why are you voting for McCain?
I think that Obama should not try to say that John Mac. is rubbish but instead try to win the election on his own merits, which he can do. Otherwise that just makes him as bad as Mac.

McCains primary concern is to make oil companies richer.
He wants:
- Extra Drilling = more oil profit.
- War in Iraq & Iran = more oil profit.
- To Open ANWR = more oil profit.
- No specific green targets (only feel good waffle!) = more oil profit.
- Gas tax holiday = higher prices & more oil profit (its been tried).
- No windfall tax on big oil companies to invest in raising car MPGs = more oil profit.
McCain has been bought & paid for.
He works for them.

Well, it's about time.
Good for you, Senator Obama.
If McCain wants to go there, then don't be a John Kerry and forget to fight back.

McCain's tax break isn't targeted at big oil; all corporations will get it, which to me is worse than if it was!

Nice ad. Concise and sticking with facts...not silly celebs.

McCains video comments arent filtered, more likely by incompetence than anything, but i think you guys should unfilter them as well
MarkG45 3 years ago
that's what i'm talkin' about. i think cindy is hiding the real payoffs. that's why we don't ever see her tax records. until we get these crooked sleaze bags out of government, we will be held hostage by the special interests that control them. my most sincere hope is that barack will restore sanity to the whitehouse, and freedom to our people. america has become a sick, twisted and sad mockery of itself. mccain is the poster boy for everything that went wrong.
please america - vote for obama!!!

I don't see how giving people less of a reason to supply oil will cause oil prices to fall. One of the strange (and universally true) rules in economics is the best way to get low prices is to allow people to charge high ones. Incentives matter.

John McCain wants 4 billion for ExxonMobile?
They just made 12 billion in profits and mccain wants to give them even more???
WHY? When families are struggling McCain is so out of touch he wants to help his corporate friends and throws blue collar hard working Americans under the bus!

This ad is tasteful and completely truthful! This "attack" ad is far classier than those from the other side.
lildude3077 3 years ago
I don't think McCain understand ecnomics either, since he is trying to sell a tire guage you can get a Walmart for a buck, for $25. Anyone that would pay that for a guage probably doesn't have to check their own tires.

Thank you for ads like this that shows the flaws in McCain BUT shows the vision Obama has instead scurrilous attacks.

Happy Birthday, Barack, and thanks for telling the truth. The record corporate profits of oil companies is behind the current economic crisis.

FlaaldtheSeneschal 3 years ago
Excellent ad! This totally hits the nail on the head. McCain is Mr. Mcsame. McCain will only continue the Bush legacy. No thanks.
Starvalleybotany 3 years ago
The oil companies will not sacrifice a dime in profits. I am not in favor of tax cuts or catering to big oil in any way. However, any added taxes will simply be passed on to the consumer.

johngrazz101 3 years ago
The Republicans like Elizabeth Dole and John McCain are arguing for "exploration" in places like ANWAR and off our coasts because they want to flip real estate before Bush leaves office... They have no designs on lowering gas prices like they say... Taxing Windfall profits, closing the Enron Loophole and minimizing the speculations market will make gas prices go down... not chewing up our natural resources.
informatist 3 years ago
Cool.
xmzx 3 years ago
I can't say I approve of the "windfall" tax, or of the proposed tax rebate at a time when we are deficit spending. But, still better than McCain's tax cuts for oil, or than being beholden to the oil companies.

I must say that this is the ad from Obama that I don't think suits his personality the best and I hope it doesn't take Obama camp into fighting back with McCain in the old fashionate or a bit more negative way, because I think he just isn't like that. He seems extremely positive and honest to me.
LeteciGemist 3 years ago
McCain has been fooling a lot of people with his "we need to drill off the coast" rhetoric.
Even T. Boone Pickens says we can't drill our way out of this. Why would we want to take a chance on devastating our shorelines when it would have no effect on gas prices?
We're getting reamed by oil companies ($50 BILLION in profit last quarter) and McCain wants to reward them by letting them hold more leases on government land? Let's make them develop more of the 68 MILLION acres already leased first.

that's it Barack!

If you truly care about frivolous spending, why are you voting for McCain?
