my favorite bowler ever...I know...anthony, roth, holman, williams, weber's..etc. but amleto revolutionized the game when he came out...rememer how many times he made the show without a win? then when he got his spare game together and improved his approach...he took over the sport for 2 years straight. and he brought huge viewership to the pba tour as well.

Backswing doesnt tell bout if you're a cranker or not mate,,

cranking is by the way u release the ball en the position of your shoulders,, timing and alot more,,

And btw if you measure wes's backswing i gues it would still be higher than yours,, he is like 2.10 m :P

It has to be after 1988, as Amletto didn't win his first title until early that year, and the video says he has two titles.

Red Hammer...so this match was from around 1985-1987 or so. And that other bowler is definitely Mark Roth when they show the side-by-side comparison of their releases. This must have been before he was sponsored by Columbia 300, as I remember Amleto throwing U-Dots in the 80's. He was my favorite bowler back then with that nasty whip-hook he threw.

First, Amleto has been on tour for 25 years now; he started in 1982. Back then the technology of bowling balls, lane surfaces, and oil was nowhere near what it is today. If you wanted the ball to hook, you had to grip it and rip it and no one was gripping it and ripping it quite the way Amleto was doing it back then.

Second, as far as the true crankers of today, you can't believe that Rash, Weber, and Smith are the only ones...what about Chris Barnes, Jason Couch, Tommy Jones, Doug Kent, and Wes Malott? (just to name a few.) Those guys have been known to put a few revs on a ball...
