  • This tune is in my favorite movie,"Days Of Heaven" an absolutely perfect fit for it too!

  • Yet it only has 35k views... shows what people think of talent these days.

  • stunning

  • How cool is that!

  • If smoking shitloads of bud has affected Leo's playing in any way, then all I can say is PASS THAT SHIT!

  • when was this?

  • Masterpiece...Genius in motion and sound!!!

  • this is from his dvd home and away. its fn solid.

  • Fuck Kottke has some feel. That right hand chugs like a bitch

  • Thanks for adding this fantastic recording of Vaseline Machine Gun. The other two YouTube videos have very poor sound quality.

  • whew!!

  • Never thought a guitar could "rock" that much!

  • any guitarist who calls themselves a guitarist , if you kind of understand what I'm saying. Should be able to play Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, and some of Leo Kottke's Originals... He is amazing, I'm going to see him this Friday, in Joliet, Thank god he didn't turn to drugs like most musicians.

  • @jsipflatpickd28 What about guitarists who call themselves "Gary"? Is Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring a prerequisite for being a guitarist? (it's not exactly difficult).

Btw - I know of people who hung out with Leo and they say he smoked more weed than Bob Marley.

  • @bluesgurugod

Really ? Rappers hang with Kottke? funny..... Oh and A guy can play FOTBB on accordian 70 times faster than Guiness record. ...... What Kottke can do well, NO one can do as an equal...Point out someone on here doing a kottke song on guitar that betters him... you cant..but if you could do a good job at it, I would consider you a good player.

  • @gorstman I never said anything about "rappers" and I never said Kottke wasn't great. Not sure what the hell you're talking about...

  • @bluesgurugod

I think what Gorstman and I are saying.... Kottke didn't throw away everything he has, the guitar, he didn't ruin his life, He continues to do what he does well, and shares it with us(PERIOD)

  • @bluesgurugod The reason Leo smoked alot of weed is because his mind was like an unchained electric power grid...Always puting out energy...uncontained and thus he was able to temper that with smoking.

  • MR. MACHINE HANDS. Doing this kind of work requires enormous amounts of concentrated effort. The disseminated and evolved Travis picking gets splayed into ten different approaches to the instrument and then finely integrated and practiced by MR MACHINE HANDS.

  • Just fantastic to see that 35 years on, he's still on his own!! All previously metioned albums are might good but have a listen to Live in Europe.

    Enjoy!!

  • I saw this guy too in concert as a warm-up for Foghat, Colorado State Field House. Foghat was good but as far as Iam concerned he stole the show...That was 1972. I don't care what anyone says you can't teach what he plays, he is a Savant on the Guitar!!

  • When he played "Easter", you could hear a pin drop, everyone had binaculars and held their coughs and their breath!!!

  • While serving my time in college, I was luky to see Leo on stage, WOW can he handle a 12 string or what!! If you love this purely heavenly guitarist, start with his first album "My Feet Are Smiling", then head out for the next one, and on and on...

  • My Feet are Smiling isn't a bad place to start, but it's a live album. His first one was 12-String Blues, and what most people think of his first album is 6 & 12 String Guitar. I'd suggest starting there, if only so you can be properly blown away by the live versions of Busted Bicycle and Jack Fig, which requires that you hear the studio versions first...

  • good god! why have i not known about this guy until now? an incredible player. going to watch some more

  • THIS DUDE IS A 12 STRING GOD!!!!!

  • For all you geniuses that think this song is easy to replicate...go for it...I defy you to elevate youselves to his level!!!!

  • Richard Feynman, (World reknowned quantum mechanics physicist) made up his mind he was gonna get down Rachmanonov's Flight of the Bumblebee. He went at it with great fervor the way he tackled any physics problem. After a while he gave up. Muscle Memory is not the same as quantizing fore brain, It just ain't.

  • @Spitfireseven no sane guitarist should ever attempt FotBB. It's hard a enough on the fucking piano!!

  • He is an absolute, magician with his guitar...

  • Although this is a lot of fun to play and listen to, it's not a particularly hard piece of fingerpicking.

  • If it ain't particular hard my friend how come you ain't a ledgend....lol!!!!

  • Firstly, it's LEGEND and secondly, it's because I wasn't born in the 1940's...

  • Damn dude if you are so good let's hear you interpretation on youtue...otherwise keep quiet...OK!!!...LOL

  • Well, I will do soon...

  • internet troll is trolling

  • Thanks for the video!--Just saw him March 27th--he still has it and is best concert bargain in America!

  • This concert vid is my favorite of all time. He was just in killer form.....and really "on". No one can touch him. He's still got it too!

    Rgds,

    Joe Carpenter

  • the guy was the best guitar player of his time...a long time ago...

  • ridiculous.

  • I just assumed it was because so many peoples jaws where still on the floor ;)

  • how no one has commented is a commentary itself on the sad state of the average music listener.

  • indeed

  • orrrr it's because neither the title of this video nor the (more info) tell you if this is actually kottke or not.

  • wtf are you talking about. It's titled Leo Kottke, the guy is Leo Kottke and he's playing two songs written by Leo Kottke. What more do you need.

  • Sorry drcurio, but you are insane. If this is not Leo Kottke I will eat both of my 12-strings. It looks like Leo Kottke, it sounds like Leo Kottke, it IS Leo Kottke. Someone (possibly Garrison Keillor) said Leo was a National Treasure. Since he plays all over the world, he is a universal treasure. BTW: Leo's first album was 'Circle 'Round the Sun'. He signed it for me a few years ago--wrote 'Burn this record' & put the current date on it. I also have '12-string Blues'.

  • I'd rather listen to the song than comment. but hey, here ya go:

    this is amazing.
