any guitarist who calls themselves a guitarist , if you kind of understand what I'm saying. Should be able to play Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, and some of Leo Kottke's Originals... He is amazing, I'm going to see him this Friday, in Joliet, Thank god he didn't turn to drugs like most musicians.
@jsipflatpickd28 What about guitarists who call themselves "Gary"? Is Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring a prerequisite for being a guitarist? (it's not exactly difficult).
Btw - I know of people who hung out with Leo and they say he smoked more weed than Bob Marley.
Really ? Rappers hang with Kottke? funny..... Oh and A guy can play FOTBB on accordian 70 times faster than Guiness record. ...... What Kottke can do well, NO one can do as an equal...Point out someone on here doing a kottke song on guitar that betters him... you cant..but if you could do a good job at it, I would consider you a good player.
I think what Gorstman and I are saying.... Kottke didn't throw away everything he has, the guitar, he didn't ruin his life, He continues to do what he does well, and shares it with us(PERIOD)
@bluesgurugod The reason Leo smoked alot of weed is because his mind was like an unchained electric power grid...Always puting out energy...uncontained and thus he was able to temper that with smoking.
MR. MACHINE HANDS. Doing this kind of work requires enormous amounts of concentrated effort. The disseminated and evolved Travis picking gets splayed into ten different approaches to the instrument and then finely integrated and practiced by MR MACHINE HANDS.
I saw this guy too in concert as a warm-up for Foghat, Colorado State Field House. Foghat was good but as far as Iam concerned he stole the show...That was 1972. I don't care what anyone says you can't teach what he plays, he is a Savant on the Guitar!!
While serving my time in college, I was luky to see Leo on stage, WOW can he handle a 12 string or what!! If you love this purely heavenly guitarist, start with his first album "My Feet Are Smiling", then head out for the next one, and on and on...
My Feet are Smiling isn't a bad place to start, but it's a live album. His first one was 12-String Blues, and what most people think of his first album is 6 & 12 String Guitar. I'd suggest starting there, if only so you can be properly blown away by the live versions of Busted Bicycle and Jack Fig, which requires that you hear the studio versions first...
Richard Feynman, (World reknowned quantum mechanics physicist) made up his mind he was gonna get down Rachmanonov's Flight of the Bumblebee. He went at it with great fervor the way he tackled any physics problem. After a while he gave up. Muscle Memory is not the same as quantizing fore brain, It just ain't.
Sorry drcurio, but you are insane. If this is not Leo Kottke I will eat both of my 12-strings. It looks like Leo Kottke, it sounds like Leo Kottke, it IS Leo Kottke. Someone (possibly Garrison Keillor) said Leo was a National Treasure. Since he plays all over the world, he is a universal treasure. BTW: Leo's first album was 'Circle 'Round the Sun'. He signed it for me a few years ago--wrote 'Burn this record' & put the current date on it. I also have '12-string Blues'.
This tune is in my favorite movie,"Days Of Heaven" an absolutely perfect fit for it too!

Although this is a lot of fun to play and listen to, it's not a particularly hard piece of fingerpicking.

wtf are you talking about. It's titled Leo Kottke, the guy is Leo Kottke and he's playing two songs written by Leo Kottke. What more do you need.
