Mr Neate was my teacher in Munich, and it's great to have him here. There must be so many recordings. It would be great to have them here as well. I do remember he had a double album of art songs in Italy- some type of historic documentation. I will try to find some recordings he made for me. Added to his voice and technique, his languages were impeccable.
@markgreene1100 Thank you Mark for this post please feel free to contact. I have Ken's entire archive in my cellar in Munich which I received from Mrs neate before her death in 2006. Ken passed away in 1997 and I have a website in his honour
Roberto.
I once had a lovely LP of Kenneth Neate, [lent to an aspiring tenor and lost]. So does anyone have him singing the "Lamento de Federico?" I'd love to hear it and his other recordings again. He's a fine singer. I think he was Joan Sutherland's first Edgardo at Covent Garden.
Thank you for posting this RAI historic television scene from Ken Neate.
He was really a great tenor with perfect tecnic and performance. One of the best Kalafs in the 50ies. Influenced by his teachers John Brownlee, Emilio Gogorza and Lucien Muratore he made a world career. A major event in 1959 was Joan Sutherland´s debut as Lucia with Ken Neate as Edgardo at Covent Garden under the musical direction of Tullio Serafin in the excellent production of Franco Zefirelli.PLEASE find RAI´s Turandot
I am so grateful to have the opportunity to hear Ken Neate's superb, touching performance in Fanciulla. Thank you for posting this and the final scene.
At a garden party in Santa Barbara, California, prior to his arrival in New York, Brownlee and Lotte Lehmann arranged for him to meet Bruno Walter.
Bruno Walter recommended him as understudy to Charles Kullman in the role of Tamino, for the forthcoming gala production of Mozart's Magic Flute during the 1941 season at the Metropolitan Opera.
WOW--I'm reminded of the compliment Caruso once paid to a young Lotte Lehmann: "che bella voce, una voce Italiana!" (what a lovely voice, an Italian voice)
Ken received a video copy of this Rai Uno transmission just two weeks before his death in June 1997 and it was deeply moving watching it with him. He hadn't seen it since 1956.
great old clip...these are such fun to see, and damn good singing from someone not all that well known (at least to me). Love this aria-thanks Oneguin 65, another home run!!!

One of the best renditions I have ever heard. Never heard of his name though.
