    lose 2 paws, Ithink

  • whats the interface

  • this is all about the pawn power.

  • This was a very interesting match. I liked the pawn break through technique at the end. Jrobi! I Have a question? dOES IT HAVE TO BE EXACTLY THREE PAWNS FOR THE PAWN breakthrough technique to work.

  • grab a board and test it with 4

  • There's a pawn breakthrough technique possible with 5 vs 5 pawns in the "diamond" formation. I still haven't been able to figure it out, though.

  • Whoops, cancel that; it's actually a 4 vs 4 pawn formation.

  • I feel there must be a better defense against the Reti in the very beginning; I havnt played for so long tho. I liked the pawn breakthru intro - I know this. Also there is a pawn blockade with 3 pawns as well, and there is much detail in Knight vs Bishop game that could be analyzed; not to discredit as the analyses is properly commented on for its level of players' viewing audience (meaning players were 1400 level, and you could have gone deeper which wasnt necessary). I liked the analyses!

  • Thanks for videos.. Keep making them..

  • Thanks for the comment and checking it out topshonuff!

  • when white played his bishop to g5, wouldn't it be better for black if he played his h pawn to h6? whenever i try pinning down the queen 90% of the time i get pawn to h6, and the rest is just bishop to e7

  • I think I spotted another blunder. White could have moved the queen one space toward the pawn, fording the bishop back, then take the pawn(thus gaining a tempo undeveloping black's bishop).

  • i dont like your bxn followed by e5 idea early on. it cedes the 2 bishops, it eliminates possibilities of d5 breaks instead of e5, it makes d5 square a hole, and makes the d pawn backward. I think white keeps a good advantage if he does not play this but just continues to develop. space is meaningless if you dont control important squares. the d5 square is absolutely critical. f6 and e6 are rather irrelevant.

  • nice, better to use memorized techniques in the end than going to calculate in time limits.

  • Hi Jrobi. This is the first time I've commented on your vids, though I'm an avid viewer. Just wanted to thank you for them: your analyses are stunningly clear, and very well-presented. Not an easy thing to do.

    So, thankyou for them!

  • Good commentary, thanks for uploading.

Only point I would dispute here: 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4 dxc4 3.Qa4+, you claim that 3...Bd7 is the best response to the check, when in fact 3...Nd7 has a much better track record.

For instance 4.Qxc4 e6 5.d4 a6, threatening ...b5 and also planning to strike with ...c5 in the near future, is a solid defense.

If White doesn't take right away (e.g. 4.Nc3,4.g3) Black can play 4...c6 (idea:..b5) and meet 5.Qxc4 with 5...e5.

Food for thought. I prefer 3.e3 myself.

  • Review a Blitz game, I love blitz, 5 minutes or faster is the only game for me. Could you perchance show a blitz game, or review a game? Honestly I find blitz is better for trying out new tactics.

  • FYI, I saw your last video that talked about this pawn formation and it's awesome to see an actual gameplay of this tactic. I went into this pawn position before, but me and the other player couldn't take the chance to move the center pawn forward because we both had supporting pieces supporting the pawns, which resulted in a standoff. Anyways, nice video! =]

  • Sounds like a close game Winter! Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • not a great game what with all the exchanges but thx anyway jrobi.

one thing i noticed is that after the queen trades and black castles, rook d7 for white looks pretty good.

  • Rd7 would be good there too Trix - thanks for checking out the vid!

  • Another helpful and entertaining video!

  • Thanks JT!

  • wow i love you!

  • hehe thanks Nubs!

  • This is one of the first games I've watched in which I paused and guessed moves correctly. =]

I'd like to consider that some form of improvement... =P

  • That's awesome Tribune12345! Thanks for checking out the vid!

  • nice vid

  • Thanks for checking out the vid hillbillieskittles!

  • thanks enjoyed

  • Thanks alanmillwall!

  • Wow feel like a celb now... I saw the bishop pin right after I pushed the pawn and I was so glad he didn't catch it. When he sat back and left me push the pawns right up, I knew I had the win because he didn't know the pawn breakthrough technique that really secured the win for me. Thanks for making the video! 5 stars

  • Thanks Big! I enjoyed going over the match yesterday and appreciate you sending it over!

  • that tactic is similar to 1 i use in checkers, when the three are in a triangle its quite hard to attack, though i do adapt the tactic

  • That's cool Rorrt - I wasn't aware that it was also useful in checkers!

  • the tactic must be manipulated, but the line of three, or in a triangle is the perfect way to make a break into the opposition, plus it cannot be jumped, without me redressing the balance by recapturing.

PS do you play much Checkers, i find it enhances my chess playing loads, you really have to think up to 5 or 6 moves ahead, but not like chess in the same way

  • I haven't tried it much before, and never online. Do you recommend any free online sites? If it might help out with chess I will give it a shot. =)

  • nice one!

  • Thanks Bruce!

  • This was an excellent commentary. Will use it in my next training session with my students.

  • Thanks for checking out the vid and the comment phreakoutaston!

  • thank you for tutorial. It was great.

  • Thanks raquijada!
