@findthecomputerroom6 ive already started construction on the boat as i cant afford to fly to japan im starting to stock up on suplies cause ive ehard the seas can be rough and that it might take me a few months to sail there wish me luck and thanks for the support
idk about u guys but by looking at his chubby hands n fingers i cant help but think ths guy is the fat kid with 2 katanas and fails i was just like wait a sec.... lmao
Still it's not folded steel ... a few more bucks and I would get a real handmade ( kind of I gess ) katana ! Great cost-quality these Hanwei swords though !
For those who do not know much about knifes or swords, that is incredibly sharp. I have been sharpening my knife for hours and it still does not cut paper that well.
i wanted to ask u guys out there because i would like to buy a good reliable falcata that can cut and handle well, i am stuck between the windlass and gen 2 falcata, the problem is that i like the windlass because of the curved blade so i wanted to know if it is built solidly because i have a windlass european sword and the guard raddles and blad is a bit too fexible ever since i have been doubting windlass so can u help me out and please let me know which falcata should i get
well i used to work at a slaughter house so we had to have extreemly sharp knives right, well id sharpen mine every two days and to test them id slice printer paper (and clean my knives after of course) well one of the older guys saw what i was doing and said that slicing paper can lead to tiny little knicks along your blade which in turn can actually roll the cutting edge if not addressed idk if it goes the same on a katana but my knives were the same kind of metal so he may have a point
cuase if you do it alot on a really sharp knife, it can lead to tiny knicks in the cutting edge which if it gets bad enough can roll a section of the blade. it has something to do with the floppyness of the papper. but it takes a long time for it to get that bad
Hmm... Never heard that before but thank you very much. Seems to make sense, seeing as though even the littlest dents can come from small pumps and bruises. =) I'll keep that in mind.
i don't know if you're kidding or if you're an idiot, but either way, something has to be terribly sharp to cut flimsy paper like that with no force at all.
Thank you for making all these videos, I am just getting into collecting swords. Don't worry I'm trained in many martial arts (Haedong Gundo being one). I have one of the Musashi models that can be fully disassembled and I love it for doing cutting tests but I'm looking for something of a little better quality and don't want to have to take out a second mortgage for it! :)
Well, apparently there is a real hamon under there somewhere (the hamonb is acid etched, but the blade is differentially hardened - just kind of covered over).
@SwordBuyersGuide dude you know what would be funny is seeing you slice your finger becuase you got your thumb so close to that blade when doing that paper slicing demo, your crazy!
wow man nice blade im starting to get into the whole ninja seen and im hopeing that im going to get a katana set but idk alot about it im not sure what typ of sword to get... im also wondering about if i should use throwing stars, or kinfes, or the needles
I would go for the shurikens to start with (stars). I have no idea about throwing weapons, but I would say the more points on it the more likely you are to get it to stick in the target. Also, I wouldn't bother getting a set of Katana, Wakizashe and Tanto, I reccomend spending the money on a really decent Katana. Unless you are super rich and are able to spend a hell of a lot more on a decent set of all 3.
That is insane. I checked all the kitchen knives in my house ( and i have pretty sharp ones) and none of them could cut like that unless i used a bit of force. Teethhurts you are not very bright are you?
This isn't really impressive at all, any relatively sharp edge can do this, now if you suspended the peice of paper on a wire and then got a clean cut, that would be impressive. Pretty much any kitchen knife can do this.
The reason this video even exists, and shows a paper cutting test, is that it is exactly that: a test. Just look at all the videos down the sidebar. People seem to be impressed with paper cutting as a test for the sharpness of blades. This is because it IS impressive if a blade can cut paper. Look at the sword in this video. It slices through paper without bending the paper at all. And it's a SWORD.
Yeah, a knife might be able to do it too, and I'm sure a lot of kitchen knives out there can do it right out of the box. But if they can, they will probably say so on the box, or at least pride themselves in the sharpness of the blade. It is impressive.
Listen Yokocrono, everything you just said in the last three comments I already knew. I know that if you swing a katana, that is sharp enough to cut paper, at high speeds it will do a lot of damage, Like, a LOT of damage. Any bimbo can tell you that. Me and my brother bought a 50 dollar sword and it can cut paper. The real fact of the matter is and you need to get this through your thick skull, is that it is not that impressive for a blade to cut paper, especially when your holding it.
Just like SwordBuyersGuide said: there is a reason people find this impressive. Obviously you don't understand why, so we're going to leave it at that.
Wow, I actually...wow. I stand corrected. A kitchen knife can be sharp enough to cut paper after all. I want to see your $50 dollar sword do it now, the same way this sword did.
Its obvious that a knife can cut paper even if its somewhat dull...but if you acually look at how far his hand is away from the point in wich the blade meets the paper and cuts it so easily and smoothly...yea thats prety sharp. If you take a ordanary knife, of course you cancut paper with it, but first of all, it requiers a bit of fource to cut it AND your fingers need to be closer to the point of the blade and paper...its not hard to figure out...I have a new blade and it cant even do that...

I think you need to watch the video again, his hand is right next to where the blade meets the paper, like RIGHT next to it. Anyway, watch the video response i posted, i dont give any effort at all when i cut that paper, it practically falls right through it.
Tommorrow i will post another response to this video showing how a 50 dollar sword can cut paper like that. Well until then, go fuck yourself :)
It's a paper cutting test, not all swords are (or should) be sharp enough to cut paper. They are a lot thicker at the spine than a letter opener. And actually, this has considerable meaning - but it is only a preliminary to the tests that follow it.
Yokocrono, what the F$%^k are you talking about? Go get a sharp kitchen knife and try to do that ? A sharp kitchen knife would do exactly the same thing, if anything it would cut the paper easier, i dont know why people think it's so amazing that it can cut paper, any relatively sharp edge can do this.
I know for a fact that I don't have any knives in my drawer that would cut it so cleanly. If you do, then I am sorry, I am mistaken. But it requires more than a "relatively sharp edge" to do cut paper this well. The fact of the matter is, you don't swing a knife like you swing a sword. A sword that is this sharp traveling at high speeds after being swung can do a lot of damage. Like, a LOT of damage. That's why it's cool.

Just letting you know, it's not kincks and dents that paper does, it's dull the blade.
Paper is alot rougher and tougher thank you may think, and can quite easily dull any blade after alot of use.
Also, cardboard contains tiny slivers of glass and steel which will scratcha nd damage your blade.
