It's important to remember that criminals are already breaking laws with guns. Adding new laws will not affect the criminal element, since they never obeyed the laws currently in place anyway. They usually own guns illegally (stolen, or illegal by reason of felony charges), they use them illegally, and they disregard all laws concerning them.
Gun control laws only affect law-abiding citizens who are not a threat to the safety of the public in the first place.

Nope. He didn't flip or flop. He supports gun ownership but when things get crazy and people are committing crimes, he supports a ban. There's nothing inconsistant with that. Health insurance companies are not allowed to compete across state lines. States have different mandates health insurance must cover. In NC I am FORCED to pay for the chiropractic and acupuncture on my health insurance. Do I want those (in my opinion) nonsense services, ever? No, I do not. Why should I be forced to pay for it then? I haven't read the entire health care bill (I don't have time to read 1000 page legal documents that I probably fully wouldn't understand) but we already have socialized medicine, its called Medicare and Medicaid. Many people use it, it is by far one of the largest expenditures of the Federal Budget and there is at least 60 billion dollars of fraud every year. Yes it helps people, but that doesn't mean there are cheaper ways to do the same thing.

I'm in favor of reforming health care, but don't know all the details in the current bill. I don't like the 4 years of taxes imposed before the service is even offered. It should be pay as you go. I would like to see healthy competiton across state lines since the private insurance companies will still be there if this bill passes. I am a Christian and I do not understand why so many others that call themselves Christians are so obsessed with guns... It's almost disturbing to me. We are supposed to be Christ-like. As a European, there's a lot of things that I admire about America but unfortunately their gun policy is not one of them. Health insurance companies are not allowed to compete across state lines. States have different mandates health insurance must cover. In NC I am FORCED to pay for the chiropractic and acupuncture on my health insurance. Do I want those (in my opinion) nonsense services, ever? No, I do not. Why should I be forced to pay for it then? I haven't read the entire health care bill (I don't have time to read 1000 page legal documents that I probably fully wouldn't understand) but we already have socialized medicine, its called Medicare and Medicaid. Many people use it, it is by far one of the largest expenditures of the Federal Budget and there is at least 60 billion dollars of fraud every year. Yes it helps people, but that doesn't mean there are cheaper ways to do the same thing.

Thanks. The things that are getting him in trouble at home are the string of broken promises more than anything. He overplayed his hand and couldn't deliver what he said he would. Gitmo still open, unemployment at 10% (not 8 as he said), no universal health care insurance, no open debates/backroom deals, and others. He may look good around the World, but at home his domestic agenda is in the tank.

I'm in favor of reforming health care, but don't know all the details in the current bill. I don't like the 4 years of taxes imposed before the service is even offered. It should be pay as you go. I would like to see healthy competiton across state lines since the private insurance companies will still be there if this bill passes. Unfortunately, there are no provisions for reducing cost--that is the biggest problem for those with insurance now. I want coverage for college kids over 22.

Well, right now, it varies by employer and type of coverage--so there is a wide variation. If you one were paying the entire premium, it could cost $800-$1,500 USD. Some businesses pick up a portion, averaging just around 70-75%. A few pay the whole thing. The House government version proposes 2.5% of Adjusted Gross Income over threshold amount (poverty index).

@bakerj02 Yes, Bush, as well as the Congress while Bush was in office and the Clinton Congress had a lot to do the terrible economy. Congress didn't force banks to pay their FDIC (you know deposit insurance) premiums from 1996 to 2006. Didn't even make them pay fees. Then, a year later, the banks' greedy investments came home to roost.

Then you know what Congress does then, gives them billions of dollars of money printed off from the Federal Reserve, devaluing our currency more (hurting savings), and then CEOs are given lavish bonuses. Then they gave GM billions of dollars and they still went bankrupt. Bailouts are not free market capitalism, they are corporate welfare.

Fact is Obama never supported the 2nd amendment. He wants to get rid of all carry permits, he want to allow gun manufacturers to be sued it their guns are used in a crime, he was to ban all guns stores in a 5 mile radius from schools and parks.

He won't mess with gun control at all. Plus with the new FBI data that just came out it would be hard to have a good reason for more gun control.
In a year where, thanks to Obama, more guns and ammo have probably ever been sold, the FBI Jan- June 2009 statistics show murders are down 10%, Auto theft is down 18.7%, robbery is down 6.5%, violent crime down 4.4% and rape down 3.3%.

Im so glad they lifted the DC gun ban!!!!!!!! I will be greatly pleased when every state allows people to have a CCL. Oklahoma!!!! You know we love our guns and the last time I checked, we have about 60,000 license holders. Oklahoma!!

I like how he supports his support of the ban on nandguns in D.C. Everyone forget about the handgun ban that is still in effect in Chicago? obamadalmahama's home town? I can't believe people don't bring that up more. If they ever did come after the guns we do need a revolt, I honestly believe when push came to shove though a lot of people wouldn't be able to hand them over fast enough.

@millajw There will be a revolt if they ever come after guns through transparent or coveted means. The question is how many people will die in a revolt of that magnitude. But alot of Americans would rather die trying to live free or not live at all. And that's my belief too.

You are correct. What is ironic is these are the same people that invent abortion rights, etc. The second amendment is crystal clear, to say otherwise is ridiculous. I also hate when people talk about hunting when the 2nd amendment is brought up, or they say this gun can be banned "because it has no sporting purpose" What ever made these ppl think our forefathers wanted to protect our right to hunt and target shoot?
