this is indeed a very nice and inspiring demo ....but it would be great if you could let us know how you made the image node appear as a background in the featured block.( i don't mean the taxonomy part )
i agree, while i appreciate him spending time explaining how it works, to not show how to actually put it together is misleading being labelled a tutorial, it's more a showcase.
To answer happyches, this is video is of interest to people who understand Drupal coding and who want to customize their own frontpage. For those people the interesting parts only start at 6:00 (short explanation of the role of page-front.css and page-front.tpl.php) and at 7:30 (glimpses of code). The rest is just the maker giving a long and rambling overview of the features of the homepage he crafted. The homepage is rather nice, the tutorial doesn't know who its adience is.
Hiya, great video, I'm probably missing something obvious.. but is this a module that you are using or custom-code to get this look? And if it's a module, which one.. I found a frontpage module but that's not likely it.. or is it all done in views? Confused..
Awesome, very inventive use of the front page. You don't need to make it a tutorial, make sense just how it is.

Very nice demo of this approach, and very good design. I'd like to see a tutorial for this.

This isnt a tutorial on how to make that frontpage blocks, he merely only explains how his website look. just wasted my time.

EvanLooij - it shouldnt be labelled a tutorial. its more a features showcase.

Completely Agree. This is more like feature showcase even though artatac did it.
It is not a tutorial for sure.

to make the beginner like me understand it better.
