what a beautiful video. luv the song that accompanies it. thanks for sharing. they're my fave subjects to photograph at Toronto Zoo. But I haven't video'd them yet. Mother Puppe born 1967. Came to TZ in 1973. Jahe born Nov 28, 1997. Budi born Mar 2006. Father to Jahe & Budi is Molek born 1978. And there are many more orangs and 2 more little babies younger than Budi. They are in the morning group.
This is just the best ive seen for a long time, and no-one seems to have said anything silly or bad so even thats nice to.you are so lucky to have been there and thankyou for letting us join you
Thanks for your nice comments. I generally find that if I post a positive loving video, that the responses match that. If they don't, I don't approve it. It's that easy!
Jahe is the sister, Puppe is the mom. Jahe at the writing is 11 years old, Mom is much older of course, but the Toronto Zoo website doesn't indicate her actual age. They're a lovely family. Thanks for you post.
This is so, so beautiful. If we lose the orangutan, we have lost everything. Please, please, please put pressure on the Indonesian government to stop palm oil plantation from destroying the last of their homeland.
Darwin made his boldest thoughts on human evolution watching an orangutan play - watching this video, it is so obvious how close they are to us.
amazing shots. sad they live in enclosure but better than being shot in the wild. there is no better place for them nowadays than enclosures and rehab ctrs
Puppe is an amazing mother and Jahe is the best big sister a baby orangutan could ask for! I've been to see the orangs in Toronto several times and I always have a hard time leaving... I'm so glad you put this video up! Now people everywhere can see just how gentle and peaceful orangutans really are.... We need to act now to save them..... (You can see some great pics of Budi when he was born on the Sumatran Orangutan Society's website.)
Thanks for all your comments. I, too had a hard time leaving, as I was only visiting from Victoria. I was transfixed by their gentle and loving tenderness. A true inspiration. The photos on that website are beautiful - thanks for the link.
This is one of the most beautiful videos I`ve ever seen, it`s the sixth time I watch it and I still cry! Great apes are the best creatures all over the world, because they have no greed, no lust, no envy, they are exactly as they show themselves to the others. Our whole life would not be enough to learn all what animals can teach us. Great apes are more important for me than human beings. Sabbboy, cruelty is a main attribute of human beings.
Thank you very much. It was an honour to be in their presence. The baby had just had his 1st birthday and was learning to walk. I agree with what you had to say about how much we can learn from these beautiful creatures.
Thank you. Agreed - such beautiful creatures, and so few left in the wild. I felt very honoured to be in the presence of such tenderness that afternoon. I didn't want to go home!
Very, very, heartwarming -thechildren were definitely born out of love.

And Jahe is now at the Memphis Zoo, and hopefully will have a baby of her own.

Years have gone by since I first saw this video, and I still think it's one of the best things ever posted on YouTube. Magic!

Ad to think people used to debate "do animals have emotions?"
The depth and intensity of this little family's interactions just blew me away.
(And the song - it should've been schmalzy, somehow, but it's perfect.)
Thanks for posting this beautiful thing.

Orangutans are so graceful...I know I am in tears right now. It will be a tragedy for them to disappear from the wild.
