That 20K number came from a documentary, but the album actually charted higher in the UK (No. 9) than Plastic Letters. It charted at 10 in Australia and 33 in the U.S. This album should not have been produced under the circumstances, the most significant being that Stein became ill in 1981 and Debbie just has this shellshocked expression (and a wig) throughout the entire period. But it has its moments. It's a fun song but the video detracts from it.
The arrangement of the vocals and instruments sound weird, Debbie looks out of it in the era, I think this was around the Hunter sessions.... Im glad the band cleaned up...
I love this song!!! Don't know why it wasn't a hit, but it was from the there lowest selling album "The Hunter". Debbie said it sold only 20,000 copies world wide.
OMFG! Are those things burquas? With the masks, they look totally creepy. In contrast, she look so goddamn hot in that green dress! I heard an interview she did with Barry Scott a few years back; even she sounded a bit embarrassed about this song. She shouldn't have been; I think it was their most under-appreciated single. I love the bass line and the "horns", which, I suspect, are one of two horns run through an echo chamber. Either way, they sound great.
The horns were by a group of Peurto Ricans who, according to producer Mike Chapman were drugged out of their minds on coke!!.They did an excellent job though as Chapman was quick to point out.I love this song, very underatted at the time and still today.
Underated album! Deb is the queen of pop - noone compares. I'll fight for that fact, I'll drink for that fact. She still has my love.. along with millions of other fans - she deserves billions...
Sure does,cardigan7th! Thank you for the trivia. Now I'm gonna' go strangle kid genius who got me all enthused telling me about Catalina Isle, "Lost Souls.." and all....
Great song;excellent video. I was told that this vid was shot on Catalina Island, off California, the same location where they filmed "Island of Lost Souls"(1932). Is this true? Anyone? Thanks for posting!
The Video is Filmed on Tresco on The Scilly Isles, (28 Miles off Lands End, Cornwall)The Boat is a Scilonian Gig (Serica)which still races once a week. Debbie Dances down Neptunes steps in the Gardens of Tresco Abbey,
I fell in love with that song the first time I heard it, back on May 13th 1982.....and when the album "The Hunter" came out on May 29th 1982, I fell in love again, this time with "War Child" which is still my favorite Blondie song today........this song could have been a huge hit if only it had been released as a single! "The Hunter" is my favorite Blondie album, by far!
This song and album was rushed out of the studio back in 1982 for those of yis who were not even BORN back then. This song and others could have been polished a bit more but the basic Blondie style and elements were all there and still decent. Too bad they had too many internal problems, that was their demise...
Kind of sad in my opinion. Hurts to see the impending demise of a great band. Looking back in hindsight, the handwriting was on the wall by this time.

This song is a classic. Its got so much more character than Tide is High. Incidentally, it was heroin that the horn section was messed up on.
mozchandeb 2 years ago
Yeah, I always thought the Tide was a pretty poor cover, while this song is much more interesting. Especially the 'Where did he go?'-parts.

They were obviously trying to duplicate the success of The Tide is High. I think I like this one better, to be honest.

First single off of The Hunter. It was always my favorite along with Eat to the Beat.
Years later Chris Stein declared, or so I read he declared, that The Hunter was his favorite.
It was not a labour of love though being the last album to be recorded to fulfill their contract; and they were only too glad to call it a wrap.
