I'd buy my kid his FIRST car (not anything too expensive) and he'd have to pay for gas and everything else. When he's sixteen and does NOT have a job and never put a good attempt into looking for one, I'm picking the most miserable job for him. Teach your kids right, jeez. And people hate me for this.
