I think Perseverance has much reat biblical truth, but I think it fails on one issue. I don't think the Bible teaches that if you are Elect you will Persevere, I believe it teaches that IF you Persevere, THEN you are Elect. POTS seems to teach Election unto Sanctification, whereas Scripture teaches Election THROUGH Sanctification (1 Peter 1:2, 2 Thess 2:13). Many Believe for a while, but fall away in persecution, or are choked by thorns.
Does that mean once a Christian always a Christian? Are you saved for eternity? What if you excepted Christ when you were a young child, lost your ways, and died as an unbeliever? What would happen to you?
@haleyl52 Perseverance of the Saints is not the same as "Once Saved Always Saved", the former teaches that if you are Truly Elect you will Persevere and grow in holiness, you will not fall away. The latter teaches that even if you don't peresvere and grow in holiness, and even if you fall into daily habitual sin, you're still saved. I don't believe that either are 100% biblical, but Once Saved is complete Heresy. If you care to know my thoughts on Perseverance see my next post.
how many react to the outward and misquoted docterine of Calvanism outlines how they veiw how soverign God is in all things or as they may be exposed in some things, it is sad that their argument against is often just what the docterine of Calvinism shows in the true message of Gods holy word.
You don't need anything but Jesus to be saved. We are saved by Jesus alone, by faith alone. BUT, if we are truly saved there will be fruits of this salvation because we have the seal of the Holy Spirit. Can you be saved without repenting? Yes and no. Yes, it is by faith in Jesus Christ alone. No, if you are saved you will repent and if you don't repent you are not really saved, hence, you cannot really be saved without repentance. Same goes for perseverance, bearing fruit, etc.
God wants EVERONE to be saved, so say the scriptures. Many are called, but few are chosen BECAUSE they do not endure to the end. God knew who would CHOOSE Him before the foundation of the world. Remember that since man did not want to retain God in him mind, that God gave him over to a reprobate mind? Jesus paid for the sins of everone. There is no once saved always saved. There is only our free will to do as we please, whether to believe the Gospel and endure to the end, or not. This is truth.
If all of us are so depraved that we cannot come to God without being born again by the irresistible grace of God, and if this particular grace is purchased by Christ on the cross, then it is clear that the salvation of any of us is owing to God's election. Election refers to God's choosing whom to save...It is because God chose us before the foundation of the world that he purchases our redemption at the cross and quickens us with irresistible grace and brings us to faith. From his web site.
Good stuff... I heard a message by Mark Driscoll from Nehemiah and Mark spoke of Nehemiah pursuing life and ministry from a mindset of what Mark called ...'long obedience'. I loved that phrase in particular and also understood that this can only be accomplished with true love for the Lord Jesus and His grace to carry it through.

@haleyl52
We must first establish a basic truth. Who chose whom? Did we choose Christ or did He choose us?

you do NOT have to "persevere" to be saved. this 5th point of Calvinism teaches works + faith = salvation. that is a damnable doctrine.
