This is the 1982-83 season, b/c this was when the show gave Johann and Pee-Wee their own segment shows, which unfortunately didn't work out.

The other original opening credits I can recall from the 1981-87 years were that the 1986-87 intro featured Grandpa Smurf and the 1983-84 season originally featured the debut of Baby Smurf in the credits.

I just never understood why Hanna-Barbera kept all of the pre-1987 intros intact when they were syndicating reruns of The Smurfs to begin with.

I don't recall the season, but keep in mind this was the introduction in The USA of Johan & Peewit from "The Smurfs and The Magic Flute" movie made in 1976. Also remember that Peyo did introduced The Smurfs on a "Johan & Peewit" comic book.

@TelepathyCrimewave for years all you could get was the soundtrack and no video of this segment , because in syndication the smurfs has that generic opening, there were several seasons of the smurfs all with different openings... With any luck the DVDs will reflect that. I bought season 1 and its very accurate.
