  • THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!

(To Suzuki, the orchestra, the choir, the soloists, the cameramen, the uploader, and pretty much everyone that was in some way involved in that video finally reaching my screen!)

  • wow, genial, primera vez que la escucho.

  • Michio Kaku as conductor ?

  • ¡los Pilares del Universo!

  • Bravo Maestro Suzuki !!!

  • Thing with bach, he wrote more music than most people would ever be able to absorb in a lifetime, even if the only music they ever listened to was Bach.

  • Great performance....but what bothers me is that the soprano does not get the high notes. Some parts are changed. Sounds kida weird.

  • ... God is definitely in the works of Bach. I didn't know him personally.. but he even said this was all to His glory. I can't think of a better inspiration that exists BUT God. If only Bach were still alive to write more....

  • Quelle élégance et quelle grâce cette direction!Superbe!

  • Sublime!

  • I love how this chorus just never ends! The first time I heard it on a record I thought it was a mistake, that they had printed the chorus twice in a row. The music is so creepy and intense and wonderful.

  • Best performance. Best interpretation

  • Oh my... A baroque contra-bassoon. Brave man.

  • beautiful <3

  • I love this performance so much... many thanks!

  • Great job, really intense as it should be. Brilliant!!!

  • 2.53min -maybe his score is upside down?

  • this and the Gardiner versions are supreme- it depends on what you're looking for-Drama in the Gardiner or introspection in the Suzuki

  • @vaughangarrick Yep, well said. Gardiner prefers the theatricality of the piece, the drama, the humanity. Suzuki is the more spiritual. Both thrilling and equally valid interpretations.

  • Suzuki is probably the only conductor but Harnoncourt that can convince me that there is something to period style performances. Or rather: that period or not DOES NOT MATTER. The only thing that matters is the quality of the musician.

    Superb.

  • Where can i download the entire concert? It's just magnificent

  • LOL @niggermusic when compared to this. Who said white supremacy wasn't true?

I'm so happy that we have jungle bunnies to show us real music.

  • 23 7 23

  • Magnifique interprétation !

  • awesome!

  • As stunned as the first time. At the moment the first bars begin, I'm taken out of this world.

Maravilloso¡

  • Can't agree more with bigbono12 ... This is the best interpretation.

  • Thanks I love the subtitles, it makes it so great to know what is said.

  • Excellent performance!! I was getting shivers down my spine for the whole 8 - 9 mins!

  • beautiful , all works of Masaaki Suzuki are beautiful, full of passion , Soli deo Gloria ;)

  • suzuki realized the sublime and true feeling of St John after personally experiencing the death of his father six years ago...

  • omg it's even subtitled. :D thanks who ever posted this. is there a dvd i can buy?

  • @romanpr1nce Yes there is, you'll find it e.g. at amazon.co.uk

  • What an awesome video! Very authentic performance practices! Amazing sound!

    Thanks for uploading!

  • Superb performance. I think Suzuki's interpretation of the St. John Passion is the best of all available ones. It is warm, intense, dry (without vibrato, with clean attacks) very flowing, with moments of sparkling brilliance and great emotional feeling.

  • @bigbono12 Agree! I had Benjamin Britten's version, unfortuntely it's sung in English (a bit awkward for Bach's works) plus it's not in the sound of period instruments, as seen here... The sounds of period instruments is essential in evoking the time of Bach and other masters of the Baroque era...

  • @Kethvan I also think that the B. Britten version is a very good one too. Sung in English, if you are not fluent in German you can follow the meaning of the Passion better and the emotional content of the words and music together do make a deep effect on the spirit, at least on mine.
