WHO just announced the swine flu pandemic as over. Tons of money were wasted on vaccinations. And like I commented more than a year ago, the regular flu killed more people than H1N1. I'm not making light of the deaths, I'm just saying the media and the government sensationalized this whole incident, and you, UnsavoryMen, fell for it. I mean when the first cases of swine flu deaths show that they all had other underlying health problems, you can probably bet it's not gonna be an epic disaster.

Swine flu is bad, but it's not the black plague. Put it into perspective and even the common flu is worse. Paul's against forced vaccinations because they can cause deaths.

here this should be relevant: the H1N1 virus was much more deadly back then and humans have a stronger immune response to the virus than they would have in 1918.. this is another scare caused by the 2 party system and media that only follows our two parties. I enlisted in the U.S. Army 5 years ago. During OSUT the shot clinic informed me that I had never been exposed to chickenpox as a child, and they ordered a varicella vaccine for me.

About a month ago, I developed shingles, which is chickenpox re-appearing in an adult, but it's more painful and unpleasant. If my only exposure to chickenpox was through a vaccine treatment, then isn't it likely that my bout with shingles was caused by that vaccine treatment?

How can you so sure ? Chicken pox can be spread by cough and sneeze from infected person which means it is an airborne disease besides having potential of getting it from direct physical contact with secretions from the rash of infected person.

This is obviously biased; people die from influenza, even in the U.S. There will be no, "global pandemic" the media simply realizes that they're ratings go up every time something scary might happen, no matter how unlikely- and politicians like to feel as if they're useful.

Also, you neglected to mention that the vaccine killed 25 people in the 1976 outbreak-more than the flu itself. There were reports that it paralyzed some people, more so than the avg vaccine.

I wouldn't go that far. If you listen closely to what he says, he wants government to protect our civil liberties and to uphold the constitution. A big part of this is following the 10th ammendment, anything not listed in the constitution is left up to the states to figure out. I feel much more comfortable about a governnor closing certain schools down, than the federal government doing it. I just think that a top down approach to things on that kind of scale is terribly ineffecient.

Ron Paul says we need to go back to the Constitution. You know the document that limits the government power and tells the government what they can and can't do. That it also says by the 10 Amendment that any law not clarified at a Federal level is therefore made the decision of the States.

The thing with killer viruses is that they don't take weeks to evolve, if they have the potential to mutate, they will mutate within hours, or days. Its been weeks now, the virus went pretty widespread, spanning the globe, it hasn't mutated, and its highly unlikely it will now.

A mutation is a genetic change, whereas evolution takes one or more mutations that are considered helpful, and the species changes over a period of time.

the point is not that nothing should be done,but that the government is not the one to do it. The medical profession is capable of dealing with this situation without costly intervention. Also remember that the circumstances of the 1918 breakout are not the same as today. Medicine and an understanding of how a flu is spread is more advanced. My grandfather told me they used a camphor necklace to ward of the flu. I think we can do better than that now. media based panic is not the answer.
