I disagree that meeting someone online isnt a good way to meet people, as i met my now wife on a dating site! I didnt really have any horror stories like some people say they had, but you obviously meet some people you will hit it off with and some that definitely dont work, but thats just life i suppose.
If your careful and communicate with the person first a good few times before you meet, i think you can tell if someone is genuine or not.

When you add alll that up over the course of year that comes to around £800.
