Don't know if I agree with this vid and the comments. Lot to be said for movement (backpedaling), using body as a defensive tool, pick-up weapons ("equalizers") that are on hand , and situational awareness. When I carry, the last thing on my mind is standing still for an on-coming attack . Creating distance. But love the vid, though. Straight to "Fav's".
i shot you before you came at me hehe. well i did at first then i understood i had to wait till you lunged at me.........i do understand your point in a gun not working in this situation. but i believe your giving the gun less credit than it deserves... but i do agree with not drawing your weapon if your going to be stabed in .4 sec.
The point is that your gun is not your salvation. It is only a tool IF you can get it out and use it and are lucky enough to take the threat immediately out of the fight.
This video has some kind of merit, although it is off basis with reality, sorry. The fact of the matter is anyone stupid enough to stand in front of an attacker who has ALREADY drawn a weapon deserves what he gets. So in fact this is not a significant challange, apples for apples, have the knife attacker draw his knife at the same time I draw my firearm and we shall see who gets stitches and who gets a body bag.
Take a look at the NEW version from concealment! Keep in mind, just because you MAY get your gun out does NOT mean that you will kill them before they cut or kill you!
It's an important point. It starts with situational awareness, but at close ranges there's little reaction time available. The other videos talk about ways to add time to react. Even then, you may not have an opportunity to bring a firearm to your defense. On top of some of the suggestions in these videos, training some elementary martial arts may help improve your chances to save your life in a situation like this. A good visualization of a real problem.
The WORST part is, most knife attacks happen at WAY SMALLER INTERVALS than 21 feet. At least from what I've seen/read/heard. Most people don't just whip out the knife and run at you, they will close the gap first...
This video is chillingly effective... too many people think that a gun is a magic wand and it will make them invincible, when in fact it could get them in MORE trouble while they panic and try to draw. You have to admit, most people do not drill this sort of thing all the time, or are afraid to face the reality of it.
Either way, it is kind of rigged to catch people that are of litle experience. I got your point.
But you lead people to believe that the challegne is to just draw and shoot in that short time. When that is not what they should be trying to do. Which is your point.
Yes it does illustrate the speed an attack can happen at. But anyone with experience would not just stand there. There are other actions besides drawing and shooting.
The tactics you allow in this so=called challenge are very narrow.
What tactics did I "allow"? Not everyone has experience either. That is my point! TOO MANY people rely on their gun to resolve the situation. You might be surprised as to how many people might just stand there because they froze in place! I would be more than happy to debate this on our discussion forum.
I woudl say you made a good point in the video, too many rely on the fact that the gun will do the work, but there are too many situations where you cant access your gun in time...Sure havign a gun with no trainign is still better than walking around empty ahnded, but to anyone who caries a gun should be responsible enough to train a little with it and without it...

Now, before anyone says anything... the PVC pipe is there to show that I actually covered the entire distance and cut the "attacker".
