I wonder if certain fractions like 66/89 when trying to convert to a decimal would have infinate random digits with no repeating pattern which in a way would make it an irrational number but can be written as a fraction because it started out as a fraction? 66/89 = .74157303370786516853932584269663 etc... I don't see an end or a pattern. Maybe there is one though if you go long enough. I don't know.
Great video. I like how I don't have to watch you write everything out. Better audio would be nice, but it's not bad. I have to use some of your videos because my online college class doesn't always have the best videos. I appreciate what y'all are doing and lunamath. Thank you very much.
Must say GREAT,GREAT explanation of Rational and irrational numbers. This is something I never really understood until I watched your video. Much better than most of the teachers i have seen trying to explain this. Awesome job and keep the helpful videos coming. DOUBLE LIKE!
Thanks for the help! I was so confuse when the teacher was trying to explanin what ratioal and irrational means! I guess she was trying to explain it by saying irrational are crazy numbers, that looks scary, which just makes me confuse. Anyway thanks for the help
3 + 26/100 is equal to 326/100. The goal is to verify that the value can be written as a fraction, that's why we used the improper fraction instead of the mixed number.
How does Ir=0? I'd like some sources, a book perhaps? If Rational is something and Ir is nothing, I hope that you are aware that 1+0=1. And how can one have 22 of 7? Are you sure there is enough time for that? And please do not get all Feynman on me, I like to learn.
no, no, no. 21/7 is not equal to Pi. 21/7 = 3. A common APPROXIMATION of Pi is 22/7, but this is NOT exactly Pi. In fact, it is only accurate to 2 decimal places. We can approximate the value of Pi with 3, 3.14, 22/7, 3.1415927, but we can NEVER write down the exact value because it is an unending decimal.
amazing work ! thnx alot i hope u explain other topics like matrices ,functions,trigonometry,and rounding (to decimal places,significant figures,whole numbers) and the topic of limits of accuracy (if u r asked in a question to express the answer to a degree of accuracy upper bound lower bound )
Rational numbers are closed under addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division (with the exception of division by zero).
But irrationals aren't closed under ANY of the operations. Look:
pi - pi = 0 so no subtraction, pi + -pi = 0 so no addition, pi*(1/pi) = 1 so no multiplying, and pi/pi = 1 so no dividing. But irrational numbers are cool. :)
oh my gosh! thank you sooooo much! you explained that so much better than my teacher! he didn't explain it very well at all! i never really knew what a rational number was until now. thankkkk youuuuu!!!! :)

@lunamath what does 5.00037e+007=?
dandistarto 5 months ago
you did the one with 3.26 wrong.. it should be converted to 3 26/100 and then simplified to 3 13/50
luvbeingmama83 6 months ago
when you did problem 3.26 i thought the 3 stays as a whole number and it would be converted to 3 26/100 then reduced to 3 13/50.
