I don't see this as an engineering marvel. It's superstructure is weak, its maintenance hours per flight hours are obscene, its fuel consumption is so high that it limits payload and endurance and it's not all that fast. It might have been something decades ago, but not worth the money to keep flying today.
According to the VulcantotheSky website, it needs to raise 630,000 quid in the next 75 days to remain solvent. One wonders if Lottery would have given 6 mil to VTS if Lottery had known VTS couldn't pay for operating costs, or if Lottery had known VTS would need this huge amount of annual donations just for operations.
Nice! But...at what cost? Is it worth TWO MILLION POUNDS ANNUALLY to fly it? Vulcan Operating Co told Lottery that airshow fees would pay all costs for sustained operations. Now, we're finding out that's not true. Sorry, guys, but TWO MILLION POUNDS ANNUALLY was never gonna come from airshow fees. A blind man couldda seen that before you started. I seem to recall the RAF retired it because, aside from being old, it was also EXPENSIVE TO OPERATE. VulcantotheHANGAR!
