The original Odyssey doesn't really seem like a video game system to me. The only thing it could do was move two dots around the screen, and wasn't able to use any kind of programming logic. It was more like a board game that was played on a television using an overlay instead of on a table.
Too bad Astrocade wasn't marketed more. I've seen vids of Astrocade games - it was an amazing system in it's time. The graphics and sound were light years ahead of the Atari and not much worse than the later NES. Atari had a lot of games that played well, but the system lagged technologically. Later in it's life programmers were able to wring quite a bit of power out of it, though. Solaris is a great example of what the Atari could do in the hands of skilled developers.
Awesome video, Its a great history video for game consoles such as the Atari 2600 & the Magnavox <-- (Or Magnovox, Whatever) Odyssey. I might get an Atari 2600 for christmas. Im doing a history video on TI Calculators, Leave a comment when its done? Anyway, Cant wait for Part 3!
What a great documentary. I have'nt seen part three, "I think it's you." but it has been very informative and entertaining. Thanks for the nostalgia of gaming history. I stumbled upon this while looking for info about my Faichild game.
and so lucky you are!..I just finished the narration part of part 3..I have to add the visual media and it will be live...and there will be more nostalgic goodness to come...in fact..I plan to cover the ENTIRE history of video games..(even the little known or failed ones)...until the Wii-U...(which is current)
by the way...awesome about owning a Fairchild :P...my collection is little compared to some others...feel free to check out part 1 on my channel! (which is definitely much shorter :P)
You should have toned down the music. It's too loud.
