I believe the word soLDer (correct English pronunciation is with the L and the D) is derived from Latin 'solidare' meaning to fasten together. I guess the L and D got dropped over the Atlantic somewhere?

The word is SOLDER , it has an L and a D in it . It should be pronounced SOLDER not Sawder !

Yeh , I admit it's not only you , I think its all Americans. If words are pronounced wrong for long enough and my enough people , eventually they end up in some obscure dictionary. What dictionary might that be ?
