Congo is not well known by every brazilian citizen (most people in urban areas have no clue of the existence of such rhythm in Brazil). That's why you will find mistaken comments about it, coming even from brazilians themselves.

This is not samba, neither a tribal dance (it actually has tribal roots, though). It's a brazilian rhythm which has tribal african roots and is part of brazilian folklore. This rhythm is called "Congo" and when people get together to sing and dance it you have a "Congada".
The difference is that Carlinhos Brown and Sergio Mendes gave it a good audio treatment.

@mercia1990 Mercia, sometimes is not how you describe yourself but how the world perceives you. Brazil is Latin because it has a language origined in the Roman culture. Both, Spanish and Portuguese come from Latin. It's not Hispanic but it's Latin. And yes, there are always Brazilian films (terrific most of them) in Latin festivals. It's good to be unique and it's great to enjoy it,but Latin America will only get strong if we overcome the abyss and find the bridges.

I think that brazilians are so proud of speaking portuguese (just as proud as anyone would be of speaking their own language) that sometimes we forget the strong links between portuguese, spanish, and the other romance languages. It is very confusing, despite the intention to be the best, there has to be careful with our symbols and culture. We are a unit, but have not encountered any foreigner who understands, who knows how to display images and also know that can speak on this subject.
I miss Carlinhos Brown`s music SOOOOO much. I was not a big fan of (Bahia) carnival and I was about to give it up....and then his trio electrico came down the street blasting music MariaCaipirinha and I was going crazy. @FuShengAlex You are onto something. According to the CD liner notes, the words, lyrics, and lead vocals were by Carlinhos Brown. Sergio Mendes did the arranging, along with Carlinhos Brown and Alfredo Moura. It's essentially Brown's song on Mendes's CD. If you listen to the whole CD, you will notice that nothing else sounds like it.

@alalbavincerovincero mira corazon, a mi me encanta la musica no importa de donde venga, mientras me ponga a mover el esqueleto jajaj. yo soy maestra de primaria y no se moverme mucho pero me invento las coreografia y tambien la copio de videos como estos y se las enseno a mis ninos. Los presento en festivales de la escuela o en las plazas de lugares donde presentan festivales hispanos. gracias por tomar el tiempo de leer mi comentario.........

mirnareginaortiz....I cannot understand. It is said that Sergio Mendes is the singer, but Carlinhos Brown is doing all of the singing. This definitely sounds more like from the Northeastern part (Bahia) of Brazil with all the drumming.

I am very critical when I see any posted on You Tube video that speaks about Brazil.
Posted Sergio Mendes (Brazilian arranger and producer, which launched in 1999 the CD "Brasileiro" which contains this song)
Put Vanessa Williams (U.S.) and Chayanne (Puerto Rico) in the movie "Dance with me", then a flag of Brazil.

This song is AMAZING Bahia (Brazil), where the carnival is completely different. Music written and sung by Carlinhos Brown.
It is very confusing, despite the intention to be the best, there has to be careful with our symbols and culture. We are a unit, but have not encountered any foreigner who understands, who knows how to display images and also know that can speak on this subject.
How to Brazil, this is my opinion.

I miss Carlinhos Brown`s music SOOOOO much. I was not a big fan of (Bahia) carnival and I was about to give it up....and then his trio electrico came down the street blasting music MariaCaipirinha and I was going crazy. Probably THE most happiest night of partying in my life. Since then I try to go to Bahia carnaval as much as I can. He is the best, my hero and musical inspiration.

Do you know the name of the singer and the song..... By the way. Ivete Sangalo is coming to my city for the first time in her life in two weeks to perform a free concert celebrating Dia do Independencia downtown......I am very excited to see her come here.

mirnareginaortiz.....I have just returned from dia do Independcia em Toronto Ivete performed for 2 hours. I was very happy to see her, we do not get to hear Axe music here at all, I only have youtube to keep me happy. :) The crowd was muito feliz. Thank you for PMing me the song. It sounds similar, but when I was Bahia, it was a male that was singing. I really would like to return to Bahia carnival after today, but I also think of seeing Sao Paulo`s carnival too.

@FuShengAlex You are onto something. According to the CD liner notes, the words, lyrics, and lead vocals were by Carlinhos Brown. Sergio Mendes did the arranging, along with Carlinhos Brown and Alfredo Moura. It's essentially Brown's song on Mendes's CD. If you listen to the whole CD, you will notice that nothing else sounds like it.
