@YoungIvyScholar I'm sorry, how is a woman FROM CANADA an idiot vs. the cherry picking, biased Stossel?? Please. You're 16 and live in the States. Spare me.
@MadHabber93 Because YOUR person is the cherry-picking one. To represent my side, you picked some random idiot instead of one with an actual reputation.
@YoungIvyScholar Stossel reputation went down the crappy once he went to Faux News. Sara Robinson provides factual information that effects an entire population in our system. She is someone who has lived and worked in Canadian system. Stossel provides anecdotal evidence (look up the meaning), misleading information, biased reporting then paints with a broad brush. He was once a good reporter.
And I'm sorry, at 16, wtf do you know about our system besides the b.s. you believe from Stossel
I compiled a blog titled: "Corporate Executives Deny 57 Million Americans Healthcare - by Bill Woollam" Google that.
When executives of American HMOs benefit off of denying claims of ''insured Americans'....the US system has deteriorated.
In all OECD member nations, governments have been lobbied and economically coerced to continuously reduce corporate tax rates, one lobbied nation at a time. In the 70's Canada government revenues could afford the upkeep on both healthcare and education .
Really? I am close to bankrupt due to my medical bills. I am probably losing my home. Yes I am from the highest taxed country in the world. Canada health care is free until we get sick. Consider this. Canadian wait times, I know this is over 6 months - I have been on the waitlist for specialists, from specialist orders for over a year. Am I terminal? Yes I am. People die on this plan. I can't afford the meds scripted, it's not free. I am slipping through the cracks because of the system.

Sherman, a doctor and former junior health minister who was booted from the government caucus last year, says he will table emails but first wants assurances from Zwozdesky that health officials named in them will not be punished. He told the legislature Monday that about 250 patients died on a waiting list before getting cancer treatment between 2001 and 2006.
Edmonton health officials covered up the deaths, punished doctors who threatened to blow the whistle or bribed them with millions of $.
@FIXWCBCANADA Just read the article. At this point, they are allegations. If true, kiss a lot of jobs goodbye. Let's wait for that little thing called actual evidence.
.In December 2010, 41-year-old Marlene Stephens died after waiting an hour and a half at the William Osler Health Centre emergency room in Toronto. According to family members, she was experiencing respiratory problems, and crying out that she couldn't breathe, but was ignored.
Fenwick’s report revealed that the patient “Christopher,” changed name, had gone to numerous doctors and specialists in Saskatchewan for getting treated his migraine headache, vision loss and low blood pressure but all went in vain. Then at Mayo clinic in US he was diagnosed with the brain tumour and was offered to get his surgery done within few days. He then went under surgery there as he had not been treated in his own country, Canada;;(NUMEROUS DOCTORS / SPECIALISTS; were they in denial?)
just as a CANADIAN I just don't get it,...WHY are the patients who need surgery being DENIED the UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE they so desperately need. Canadians are so ignorant and oblivious to whats happening right under their noses it's rather sickening and down-right FRAUDULENT; and PROVES that CANADIAN'S PAY TAXES AND GET NO MEDICAL CARE,then are forced to go to were-ever;out of country because of all the CORRUPTION,

Number of Canadians who file for Bankruptcy due to work injuries, thousands;;; Number of Canadians denied medical care due to work injury; Thousands;;;;
Medical Legal Insurance Fraud is rampant in Canada, and is a government protection racket to protect negligent employers from lawsuit;
Canadian Doctors are afraid of government and won't rock the boat in fear of losing their license to practice. The Universal Health care system in Canada does not apply when injured on the job,
many canadians have lost their homes, cars, families, lives, due to the HARPER GOVERNMENT who would rather spend a billion dollars on security at TORONTO and nothing on healthcare, 800,000 thousand canadians are on wait lists;
@FIXWCBCANADA 800,000 Canadian's on wait lists vs over 50 Millions with no coverage at all.
Knobody in their right mind would trade Canada's system for Americas HMO system. I will weep for your 800K when you weep for my more than 50 million.
I think auto insurance should be about pre existing conditions too. So I want to buy a new car and buy no insurance. Then, when I get in an accident I want to get insured and have them pay for it. Wouldn't that be frikking great???
i was bankrupted by the canadian medical system, and many others have also...
to say there has been no one bankrupted is a lie and just plain oblivious to how bad the canadian system really is...sure no system is perfect, but to have to wait 3-5 yrs for mri is just cruel and a human rights violation;
Canada's medical system has gone from bad to terrible;
surgeons are prevented from helping patients due to rationed healthcare
@FIXWCBCANADA You were bankrupted by WORKMAN'S COMP, not the Canadian medical system. NO ONE waits 5 yrs for any MRI EVER! FIX lies. He was denied by workman's comp for his MRI, not his provinicial healthcare system. Wait times for MRI's across most provinces are measured in days. No one waits for an MRI for urgent cases. That's reality. And I'm going to continue to follow you Fix to call you on your lies.
Just google the Canadian wait times report for ACCURATE numbers, not lies.
@Theimmortalwhitewolf Yes, he's a piece of work that guy. He's posted a number of times under his alias on other videos as well. You would think that he would use a different account name and not post almost the same ramblings word for word. Not too obvious. Maybe he thought making up b.s. numbers under a different name would give him more crediblity?
@MadHabber93 I understand man i don't know whats worse someone doing that or when you try and have a debate and use statistics and polls from around the world, the US government, NRA, and several other sources, showing how The US spend ~2 or more as the rest of the industrialized world. Crime rates or lower in every category even though he calls them immoral and ever time i would he would freak out call me mind washed and switched topics about a dozen times, then i just stop messaging back.
@Theimmortalwhitewolf Sounds familiar. He likes to pull numbers out of his ass, then tells you yours are bullshit, when you actually have credible sources to back them up. Guys like him are a dime a dozen.
@MadHabber93 The funny parts are he calls me a nazi every time you turn around leftist tat wants to take everyone gun away and oppress minority groups. However, the best part is when he uses a poll that i know well that when asked if your conservative liberal.. etc conservatives one and leftist or nothing, i reminded him of the fact in the SAME exact pull when asked if your republic, democracy, or neutral the demo was number 1 with republicans in last, he said that part was fixed and you cant
@MonOpinion1701 ...when you are so badly injured and cannot work, and have to pay for your own medical care due to workers comp denial and denial by universal health care. I just paid $ 1800 for prolotherapy treatments which didn't help and another 4500 for a series of mri's to get properly diagnosed. Now I have to pay a law firm 300 per hour to investigate and file lawsuits against wcb and doctors and government
The problem with the american Health Care system is not our Free Market meaning Freedom of Choice and Competition. The problem is as a country we don't take care of ourselves very well. And have high Health Care costs as a result.
This woman is a moron. That all I can say. Also here's a clue insurance companies are companies... OK stay with me here. They are trying to make money... still have you? They are not going to make money if they give it to you.
@MysticKnight38 you have no idea how free market works. goverment has caused the problems in healthcare. insurance companies seem stingy because they can't afford to pay for all of the things that government has forced them to cover. insurance costs go up because they have to cover more things then they should have to. health insurance was supposed to be like car insurance. you have car insurance for a totalled vehicle not to fill the gas tank. health insurance is supposed to bedisasterinsurance
@jubeikiba6 If I didn't I wouldn't have the statement I made below.... and I stand by what I said ...insurance companies are companies... no more no less.
@MysticKnight38 no i stand by my statement and companies do want to make money. that is their goal. but unlike the government they have to convince you to give them money. if they don't respond to the consumer they go out of business. government does not. and if you did understand the free market you would agree with me, but you don't let me tell you that don't kid yourself. I have broken it down for you and you have built a wall.
anyone else notice how frantic the first lady sounds, it sounds like she's being interrogated, she stutters and uses "i think" "probabally" "basically" "almost" and never gives an example "other places", as well as well as avoiding certain questions.

Is this woman an idiot, did you hear her say "There is the problem (static) resources" IS SHE INSANE, the US works with 25% give or take of the worlds resources and she wants to argue that we should be worried about resources!? REALLY!?
The truth about Canada's healthcare is that it has been raped by immigrants for the last 20 years. Our population was at 24,000 000 then, now at 30 000 000.Its a no brainer,,,our stupid Canadian government(Liberal and Conservatives)over the years have ruined it for us true Canadians. Our next generation will suffer...not immigrants tho...they are used to it coming from third world countries and all....
i cant believe this woman would have the argument of not being able to pay for healthcare because we wont have money for pointless wars. i just have to say it ..what an idiot.
I asked an older doctor who built and ran a hospital whether he would have done that if he had the same regulations that are on our hospitals today. He said, without a moments pause, no. Regulation kills productivity and efficiency. If you don't like our healthcare, start a hospital and show us how it's done. Get the government out of the way.
Did any of you catch this womans bumbling fumbling script reading...you can even hear her shuffling the pages of her script. do your own research, not just read the editorials of Faux news readers & insurance industry spokesmen. It will be better if we don't have to buy healthcare from anyone that makes a profit off of it. Thats the main issue today...the profit margins are running the costs off the charts and the insurance industry is cutting out the sick people to increase their profits.
Number of Canadians who filed for banckrupcy or lost their homes because of high medical bille in the last year : 0. Number of Americans who filed for banckrupcy or lost their homes because of high medical bille in the last year : MANY.
@MonOpinion1701 ...NUMBER OF CANADIANS WHO FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY DUE TO RATIONED MEDICAL CARE AND LONG WAIT LISTS FOR SURGERY...THOUSANDS....NUMBER OF CANADIANS WHO LOST THEIR HOMES DUE TO LONG WAIT LISTS FOR SURGERY...THOUSANDS ,,,
NUMBER OF CANADIANS PLACED ON NARCOTICS DUE TO MEDICAL RATIONED WAIT LISTS,,,HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS
@MadHabber93 ...your the mental midget and highly suspect you are a psychopath as you already have stated you think it's okay for canadians to die due to long wait lists
@MonOpinion1701 To Many Of Those Guys Down There Have Dealt With Too Much Bullshit. When I Was Injured & Had To Go To The Hospital. They Sent Me A $45 Bill For The Ambulance Ride, I WAS SO MAD. I Bitched & Complained & Got Other People Fired Up. I Thought Our Health Care System Was In The Beginning Stages Of Privatization. Then I Watched The Movie Sicko. I Still Have An Issue With The Small Changes Going On In Ontario, But If I Take A Step Back & Look @ The Big Picture, I'm Happy & Lucky
@MonOpinion1701 This is a silly comparison for so many reasons. I will mention a couple of the important ones.
1) How can you quantify this without adding the extra taxes that the government charges you for the health system? Most of the cost is hidden in taxes.
2) There are many other factors, such as how much liquidity was in the markets, how recklessly money was lent and borrowed, etc. How much people stretched their budgets to get into bigger houses than they should have.
While they are busy screaming USA#1 down south, we know in canada that we are building a great society where wealth is shared and speard around, the Canadian health care system is a great example of that.
If its not life threatening people should wait? What if they have the money to pay and don't want to wait? You want people with the money to pay to suffer longer in the name of equality?
so essentially you think you should get the care before someone else who needs it more simply because you have more money than that person. do u have a soul.
In this particular case I am not talking about special treatment in a public system. I am talking about voluntary agreements outside the public system. The poor person is still waiting in his same spot in the same queue as before. The guy with money is buying something outside this queue altogether. But my answer is yes. No just government should ever deny voluntary agreements. To take this to its logical conclusion you would have to stop canadians at the border who go to US to pay for care.
So then all the good doctors go to the private system where the money is and the poor person is now not only waiting longer but waiting for a system that can't help him to the same degree. The fact of the matter is this: You won't find a single Canadian who would trade our system for yours. Our system might have problems but in the eyes of 30 million people (excluding the Americans who want it) it's VASTLY superior.
I guess when you say YOUR system you are assuming I am American. I am not, I am Canadian. Trading the canadian system for the current american system is not what I am suggesting. I am arguing for a system of free choice which america is straying from more and more. that being said, people from all over the world(including canadians) CHOOSE the american system every day.
By the way, I have never met a Canadian who comes to the US for care. However, I know many Americans who will either order meds from Canada or actually go there to get treated. I know people who will also go to Mexico.
I think people are confused about this. We have some of the best surgeons in the world so people will come here for complex surgeries sometimes. That doesn't mean our healthcare system is alright. For regular care, it doesn't make sense.
Thats not a very good argument. Its not because they have money that they have to wait. Money shouldn't be an issue in healthcare, IMO. Nobody waits longer than any other person.
It should have nothing to do with how much money you have. Right now, people who are poor cant get treated because they cant afford it and people who are rich still get ripped off. If its about money, why would people treat poor people who can't pay as much when they could treat rich people instead?
If you have some kind of heart, if youre not egotistical, if you feel somewhat bad because someone is not getting cancer treatment because you absolutely need to be at the hospital because you have the flu, yea you should wait. Thats what happens in Canada. If youre waiting because you broke your nose, and some ambulance comes in with a patient with heart/respitory failure, Im not gonna get up and say *Doctor! Ive got some money here, treat my nose so I can go watch the Superbowl.* I sit & wait.
Is this guy seriously saying that he just wants us to pull out of Afghanistan?... What a fool... that is the very thing that caused this in the first place. We fucked up the end game after the Mujahadeen defeated the soviets and now he wants to do the same thing... wow.
Can't wait for BriansVoodooHorror to get a serious illness and see how quickly his insurance company stands behind him. (Assuming he's not lying about that too.)Study in American Journal of Medicine found that 62% of bankruptcies in U.S.are caused by medical costs. 75% of those people had insurance. We Canadians know what we have. All BVH's desperate caterwauling can't change that. You all need the huge insurance pool that U.S. federal employees have - you subsidize 72% of it.
The acne pre-existing condition and incorrect weight scenarios he presents are both false claims. More health care myths being spread. EVEN if they were true, they would be the rare exception that proved nothing. Not like in Canada where almost EVERYONE waits months just to do an MRI that I can walk into and take.
So Brian how come Canadians live longer than Americans if our care is so terrible? Why does every ranking system out there put Canadian health care ahead of the U.S.?
The only organizations that put anyone ahead of us have a reason for providing the misinformation. I tell you what, show me ONE reliable institution that puts out life span numbers that DON'T include murders and accidental deaths. Just one. We lead the world in EVERY health category. Surgery, pharmaceuticals, Neurology, Oncology, Medical education institutions, ETC. Only an absolute fool would contend we don't have the best medicine in the world. The best of your system comes from the US.
OECD already called BS on your claims the US leads the world in lifespan when murders and accidents are factored out (2008 foot notes to economic survery of the US 2008) Even your source admiited his errors in the WSJ and admitted near the end of the article deducting murders would affect rankings of countries that are one year of U.S. lifespan. If you look at the number of murder and accidents in the US compared as a percentage to the total number of yearly deaths - it is not mathmatically
possible the US gain more than a year in life expectancy. As for us going south - at the absolute highest highest 5500 Canadians went purposely south for health care, much it for cosmetic surgeries - that is a fraction of a fraction of a percent of our population. Not Hordes
Tom challenges every statement Carrie makes and just nods and agrees with Sara as she lies her ass off. In Canada you can be forced to wait 2 years just to see your personal doctor for the first time. There are many clinics that haven't had doctors in 5+ YEARS. This is a worthless, dishonest, and slanted discussion. You can tell what a moron Tom is by his stance on Afghanistan.
In just one region of Toronto alone 80 family doctors are taking new patients right now. My dr here in Vancouver is taking new patients and I can get same day appointments with him. I hope you are not insinuating that the US has a very high level of health practicioners as the US ranks far below the OECD average for the amount of Doctors. Each and every country that ranks higher in terms of number of doctors, all have UHC
Your comments about Canada are positively deluded, BriansVideoHobby. I live up there and can tell you've never been there. The waits you describe do not exist. If there were more Canadians on the site, they would all be recounting their stories of high quality health care, efficiently delivered, that we take for granted. You're out of your depth, Junior.
Carrie Lukas on the video doesn't know what she's talking about. There is no "they" who override your doctor's decisions in Canada. Sad.
"A typical Canadian seeking surgical or other therapeutic treatment had to wait 18.3 weeks in 2007, an all-time high, according to new research published Monday by independent research organization the Fraser Institute.
"Despite government promises and the billions of dollars funnelled into the Canadian health-care system, the average patient waited more than 18 weeks in 2007 between seeing their family doctor and receiving the surgery or treatment they required," said Nadeem Esmail
Nadeem Esmail is a right-wing columnist and part of a movement to help private interests get their hands on healthcare profits in Canada (as is the "independent" Fraser Institute). Like right-wingers in the U.S., they lie and misquote statistics to achieve their ends. In Britain privatized hospitals have led to the government spending twice as much on healthcare to subsidize these poorly performing operations. Just look up Private Finance Initiatives. Don't waste my time anymore, junior.
Blah, blah, blah. Your attacks mean nothing because my facts are correct. Need to see a specialist in England? Their GOAL is 18 weeks! 18 weeks! 4 1/2 MONTHS! And the real disappointment is that they have NEVER met that goal! Really, you can pretend this is something free people should put up with, I won't. Socialised medicine is a failure and we won't be having any of that here in the free world.
WOW, because someone dissagrees with your opinion they are lying?? Is your opinion a lie? Lets talk facts. Facts , government tax higher in Canada, Longer wait times for std. test compared to U.S. times, less technology because of lack of funds, preventave care better in Canada but longer lag time to get cures and procedures after diagnosed. Am I correct?
Fact: When I lived in Florida, a state with no income tax, deductions from my check were as high as in Ontario, because of healthcare premiums. Fact: Wages are higher in Canada. Fact: 60% of bankruptcies in the U.S. come from medical expenses, and 75% of those bankrupted had insurance. Anyone with a life-threatening condition in Canada gets treated very quickly. Others who can wait, do. That''s the trade-off. In the U.S., many people never get treated. Trade our system for yours? No thanks.
There is difference in opinion. I also have lived both in Texas and Ontario for a short time. I never had to go to the doctor there in all fairness. But many of the neighbors I had did, the complaints of most were the wait times and lack of what we consider basic services such as MRIs Cat scans, and blood work were long waits. (Months). We have a 7% sales tax in Texas, when I was there it was 13%, An MRI takes 24 hour and blood and cats the same?? Thank you for your opinion
I can go to any lab and get blood work in one day. Emergency MRIs are done immediately. There's no reason to do non-emergency ones right away. You must have had funny neighbors in Ontario. Texas is one of the worst states for healthcare problems among the uninsured.
Define Emergency MRI? Yours and someone else might be different. I look at it like this. If I pay for a private policy then I should not have to pay for public, or should be given a voucher to give me a choice of private or public, Not have to pay twice for the same. My option. Just like schools, if the government is going to make us pay for public, we should have the right to opt out or have some of our money back to pay for private. Make sense?
Your doctor should determine if you need an emergency MRI; ours do. You are correct; a public/private system doesn't generally work. The book Trends in EU Healthcare describes how privatization is draining the public systems in European countries. Mexico has only about 45% of healthcare payed for by the government.
Medicare does not have to go bankrupt. It's all in where the government's spending priorities are. Expand medicare to cover all citizens. Take insurers out of the loop.
I am History major and a firm believer in those who forget the past repeat it. Medicare cost 9 times more than estimated; Social Security was suppose to be voluntary and is 25 times over estimates and they guaranteed never placing more than a 3% tax on the people. Now the post office is bankrupt, Fannie and Freddie are also. This is like having your irresponsible cousin to raise your children if something happen to you. Cousin or someone more responsible?
You are correct, another failed policy of immigration by our government. People who have free health care by the government of Mexico, hmm where do they go? Government has no place in health care, now thatis just an opinion. If I could find a program our government did well and efficient I might not be as cynical. The Medicare program is bankrupt, along with social security, along with 280 trillion in unfunded commitments.
I do not wish to get involved in something I know not enough of, and respectfully realize this, but I had to point out that months for bloodwork is, seriously and with all due respect, completely absurd. anyone (canadians) can get any bloodwork, anyday, waiting maybe 1h. Then youre out of the hospital. It is true that defining *emergency MRI* can be difficult, if it were not, there would be no debate. Taxes are high -in Quebec close to 15- but I like knowing a poor woman survived breast cancer.
@LexIoana Thanks for the reply. To keep it simple as Americans we have a problem giving upfreedoms and choices for 85% to give a 15% security. In your area you might have excelent care, but in other areas it is not as good. Because you live in an area that has good care does not mean the rest of the country receives those services as fast. Rationing does go on here also, not enough doctors or facilities, it is just not as wide spread or delayed as in many parts of Canada
It is true that we have problems delivering health care in rural areas, especially in the high north, near alaska for example, where rough climates and low populations play a factor, but I would suspect you would have the same problems in some areas of the States, although not as much, since you are a highly populated country.
More facts: A study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that, on average, Americans receive only 52% of their recommended care. You can thank insurance companies for this. Health Canada 2008: patients self-reported wait times for surgery and other major treatments were on average three weeks.
You imply that you can waltz into a clinic and get an MRI anytime you want. Of course, if you want to shell out $1,000.
Otherwise, insurers second-guess every treatment your doctor prescribes.
Honestly I can give reports from both sides that would support an opinion one way or the other. I blame individual Americans honestly for not going to the doctor to receive care. Preventive care is not that bad a price self pay $75. Catastrophic is expensive. Most insurances have a deductable, some $ 100 some $2500. It does suck. But dying or going bankrupt, hmm, I think I will chose to live. Reform yes, takeover no.Thanks
Thanks for good debate. Understand, we as Americans have a tendency to not trust a servant of our country to say to us, we have our plan and we will let you have less. Something fundamentally wrong with that. If you can convince our illustrious leaders to go on the same plan, then I might not be as cynical, until then I have a problem just because of past failures by government.
Let's see your evidence. And don't try to get it from some website like Conservatives for Patients Rights. Anyone who reads this in Canada is laughing at you.
Dude, every study ever done in and out of Canada supports my claim. Get educated and stop waiting on me to spoon feed you. Google Canadian wait times and see for yourself. Average time waiting for knee or hip replacement? A YEAR!
You have no studies to support your claim. Canadian Journal of Surgery 2007: Average wait time for hip replacements is 6 months. Pain and dysfunction do not tend to change until after this point. This is a small percentage of the population, and an area in which Canada is improving. Our general health outcomes are very good. You always look for the worst case scenario, then exaggerate it. Yet, the problems in your system are far worse. Frankly, I find you a bit pathetic.
That's 6 months AFTER waiting 6 months for testing and visits to specialists. You can spin it any way you want. Bypass surgery? 4 MONTHS! That's crazy. The Canadian Medical Association says the average hip replacement patient (victim) loses $30,000 waiting for surgery. But hey, it's free right? Canadian Doctors say a reasonable wait time to see a neurosurgeon is 5.8 weeks. Actual wait 31.7 weeks. Ophthalmology 8.7/22.5 Internal Medicine 5.6/16.1 Urology 3.9/12 Gynecology 5.6/16.1. Isolated?
The CMA says nothing of the sort. Nor is actaul wait time 31 weeks. I don't even have to look that up. You're tiresome, and a waste of my time. Wait times, healthcare outcomes and more can be found in Health Canada studies, the Open Medicine study, and more. Suffice to say, no Canadians are about to trade their system for yours. Don't bother writing me anymore, because I won't respond.
Ahhh, blind denial. You would trade our health care system for yours in a SECOND. It's far superior. What you are referring to is insurance. Your Government tells you what you get and when you get it. Here, we have freedom of choice. Most of the advanced medicine Canada uses came out of our "for profit (3% profit)" system. What will you do when it's gone? My father in law had a heart attack and needs bypass surgery. His will be home recovering in 2 weeks. His MRI happened in 1 day.
31 million Canadians would NEVER change Canadian health care for an insurance-run health care system like the US has. I have health care in Canada that's twice as good as the insurance-run health care I had when I lived in the US. I've had treatment and surgery much faster than it took the insurance company bureaucrat who stood between my physicians and me to approve and more often deny treatment and surgery in the US.
All I know is this: A poor Canadian walked in a Canadian hospital with the flu and ears hurting; waited 4 hours, had an ear infection, got his antibiotics, cost: 0$--A rich Canadian walked in a Canadian hospital with the flu and ears hurting; waited 4 hours, had an ear infection, got his antibiotics, cost: 0$--A rich American walked in an American hospital with the flu and ears hurting; waited 0 hours, had an ear infection, got his antibiotics, cost: 100$. A poor American never walked in.
Dont be naive, although they are great and humane, we also have charity homes for the homeless that give food and shelter. But just because we have these shelter homes doesnt mean there are magically no more homeless people. You have 47 million Americans with no health care whatsoever. How many charities would that take ?
What?!?! Where do you get your information? The claim is that there are 47 million PEOPLE IN AMERICA that don't have health INSURANCE. That number includes at least 12 million illegal aliens, all the super rich who don't need insurance, at least 12 million who are ALREADY qualified for government sponsered health insurance. In fact, we have less than 10 million AMERICAN CITIZENS who can't afford health care. We don't need to spend TRILLIONS to cover them.
Actually, you do ! According to your own research (America's Health Rankings), 27% of Americans are obese, resulting in 80 BILLION dollars spent on direct health care costs directly to obesity -- YOUR same study continues to say that if left unchecked, by 2018, 43% of Americans will be obese, resulting in 344 billions of $ related to obesity. Lastly, to belive that when I say Americans, I forget the 12 million aliens, the *super-rich* is juvenile and high-schoolish.
What is your point? Americans are fat?!?! Did you just learn that?!?! Sooooo... what? I'm now supposed to pay for the fat people because they abused thier bodies?
Sorry to say but though they are many heavily, over weight Americans out there and they may be that way by choice (driven mentally/emotionally), there are those Americans out there who are overweight to heavily, over weight due serious, conditional diseases! Unfortunately, many of us Americans will look at any overweight individual and assume he, or she is lazy, needs to lay off the food, exercise, and get a life! It's sad that most of us shoot now then ask questions later.
Why do countries provide health insurance (poorly) but not food, clothes, housing, and a job? Aren't all of these more important? Isn't it really just a way to take money from those who have earned it and give it to those who haven't and pretend to be doing it for compassion. I think so.
This post was shocking and I had to re-read it to make sure I wasnt hallucinating ; Arent the Americans losing their jobs over the economic crisis, which was started by the collapse of the financing in housing, resulting in Americans losing their house ? They are all important -- which is why the Canadian system, public, does not abuse of the poor and do NOT take money from its own citizens when they are sick, as if it was a choice. I'd be intrested in your opinion, not a childish rant.
@BriansVideoHobby Well, if you don't get a heart surgery you need because you can't pay for it, food, clothes, housing and a job are prety useless, are'nt they ?
Need orthopedic surgery? 38 WEEKS AVERAGE which means half of the patience wait even longer! What?!?! You could be waiting for knee surgery, in pain, unable to work, unable to care for yourself, and wait almost 10 MONTHS for treatment? My god!
The median wait for a CT scan across Canada was 4.8 weeks. British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia had the shortest wait for CT scans (4.0 weeks), while the longest wait occurred in Manitoba (8.0 weeks).
The median wait for an MRI across Canada was 10.1 weeks. Patients in Ontario experienced the shortest wait for an MRI (7.8 weeks), while Newfoundland and Labrador residents waited longest (20.0 weeks).
Just so you have a comparison, I can walk in off the street here and get an MRI or CAT scan. You can keep your health care "bread lines". Your system is about to implode.
What you don't understand, junior, is that patients don't all need MRIs right away. Those who do get them very quickly. It's rather pathetic that with the inequities and serious problems Americans face getting health care, you cling to delusions about the state of your system and ours.
Nonsense, the news is full of people who were put on WAITING lists for MRIs when illnesses like brain tumors were suspected. There is a reason we have more MRI machines in a few border counties than you have in ALL of Canada, to serve the under-served Canadians. Our average wait time for an MRI is hours. Yours, 100 DAYS! Over 3 MONTHS! We invent these technologies AND have to provide them for you. Sad. When are canadians going to stop leeching off of us for technology and health care?
What you need to understand, socialist, is we don't have "wait time charts". We don't suffer and die waiting for care like the guy who sat for 34 hours, AFTER going untreated at one of your "clinics", and died of a simple bladder infection in your great hospitals. All he needed was a US invented x-ray, a US invented antibiotic, and a US invented pain pill. Instead, he's dead.
Carrie is such a moron... she sounded like she was talking out of her ass the entire time and when she quoted numbers to prove her point she was easily contradicted or shut down.
Just wanted to add. Many counties do fund IVF treatments.
Canada is starting to in some provinces.
It's fiscally responsible because they have stronger guidelines for how many embryos to implant.
If people pay the $10 K themselves they become desperate and have a very high rate of multiple births. It's more expensive for the governemnt to have triplets in ICU for thier first few months than to fund the original treatment.
We don't, and obviously shouldn't, fund breast implants. ;)
As a Canadian, I think our health care is very good. Not perfect, but pretty good indeed. According to the OECD and the WHO the American system seems to cost about twice as much ($7,290US/person) as the Canadian system ($3,678US/person) (Source: OECD 2008 report). Could we be better? Sure. But honestly, the American health care debate is kind of funny and sad at the same time.
Haven't lived in Quebec or had to use their Health Care. Each province has it's own health care system, and it's going to vary from city to city. Every time I've had to visit emergency in my town, we were being looked after in under an hour, usually less. Might take longer for a doctor to come through on his/her rounds. These weren't serious life-or-death situations either.
In BC, I'd say one of our biggest challenges is getting enough GPs. This is improving though.
Health care in Quebec and BC are the same as all our provinces and territories the only differences are that some provinces covers curtain none life threatening conditions that others dont. But basic coverage is the same across Canada.
Yes it sucks, just look up steve crowders video on quebec healthcare, three years to get a family doctor, long waits, and recommendation from the workers at those clinics to go to a private clinic.
You don't live in Canada so youre opinion is false we have one of the top 5 healthcare system in the world you sir are a liar and so is Steve Crowders that was a town in the middle of no were now they have more Doctors their, 5 years ago doctors went to the US for better pay but now their back cause in the US they turned away patients an here we don't.
YOU ARE AMERICAN AND KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CANADA or our health care did you even watch this video You LIAR
5 years ago they were complaining with in 1 year they fixed those problems their not complaining today. You are supporting you argument with 5year old info that very weak. The US healthcare has had these same problems fox decades and we fix ours right away so go make a 5 year old argument but thats not the case today.
So the US has no problem right? Your argument is weak the problem was fixed the US is still fucked so what is your point that government health care is better because they fix the problem right way and the private never do because that what happened and that the only point that matters.
No,the for profit capitalism part of our country is fine,no need for reform, but all you socialists can leave and become a canadian citizen and get your commie care.
1st Canada is a parliamentary democracy no communist 2nd once again you show how dumb you are by attack my country rather that debating the facts show how dumb and Ignorant you really are.
3rd the US is the only Democratic 1st world Country with No universal healthcare like China
4th we dont have these families that run our government over and over like the Kennedys and Bushes and Clintons are you sure America is a democracy because china has the same system over there.
We here in the USA is no direct democracy,we are a democratic republic which representatives represent the people and we are founded on capitalism not socialist marxism or communism which means welfare for the poor and lazy.We all know the poor are lazy and choose to be poor.
China has no Universal health care neither does North Korea only Cuba does out of all the Communist countries so America is just like N Korea or China you are far more communist than Canada. Also you clearly have no education in communist government everyone works or is put to death like China N.Korea or USSR thats a strange kind of lazy welfare that you have to work or die for.
You are 77 you are on Medicaid and on pension you are a hypocrite you are collecting welfare and live off the hard work of the young go die already you are a strain on the public youre a lazy welfare collector.
By the way Chinas known as The People's Republic of China
And North Korea is The People's Republic of Korea
Also the Republic of Cuba
But I guess the Republican Party would hide that from Americans because they dont want you to know they are really a Communist party thats why Bush kept giving more business to China and the Dems are trying to reduce it.
The dumbocrats always give welfare to the lazy poor, like homosexuality being poor and being gay is a CHOICE.You are not born poor or gay you choose it you communist.
Clearly have no education in communist government everyone works or is put to death like China N.Korea or USSR thats a strange kind of lazy welfare that you have to work or die for.
You know that is exactly why you on the right will NEVER win the healthcare debate rather than arguing the fact you lie, insult and attack. Your arguments are full of holes and you have no real fact to back up you statement so you resort to call me a commie and Insulting my Democratic Country you are a going to lose and the US will get a public option that for sure.
Im sorry I just looked it up your info is from 2001 now that VERY VERY WEAK, that was 8years ago if your math is as bad as your reading comprehension.
Fool. Crowder had no health card, which is the first thing they ask for. He automatically goes to the end of the line, especially with "tingling" in his hand. I can go into a clinic and be out in an hour. I got dermatological treatments pronto. Dumb American. Why do you pop off about a country you know nothing about?

MrTabby5000 2 years ago 3
If its not life threatening people should wait? What if they have the money to pay and don't want to wait? You want people with the money to pay to suffer longer in the name of equality?
rrp1973 2 years ago
so essentially you think you should get the care before someone else who needs it more simply because you have more money than that person. do u have a soul.
Darty1186 2 years ago
In this particular case I am not talking about special treatment in a public system. I am talking about voluntary agreements outside the public system. The poor person is still waiting in his same spot in the same queue as before. The guy with money is buying something outside this queue altogether. But my answer is yes. No just government should ever deny voluntary agreements. To take this to its logical conclusion you would have to stop canadians at the border who go to US to pay for care.
rrp1973 2 years ago
So then all the good doctors go to the private system where the money is and the poor person is now not only waiting longer but waiting for a system that can't help him to the same degree. The fact of the matter is this: You won't find a single Canadian who would trade our system for yours. Our system might have problems but in the eyes of 30 million people (excluding the Americans who want it) it's VASTLY superior.
ninjanerd8 2 years ago
I guess when you say YOUR system you are assuming I am American. I am not, I am Canadian. Trading the canadian system for the current american system is not what I am suggesting. I am arguing for a system of free choice which america is straying from more and more. that being said, people from all over the world(including canadians) CHOOSE the american system every day.
rrp1973 2 years ago
@rrp1973

If its about money, why would people treat poor people who can't pay as much when they could treat rich people instead?
whalenbrowne 2 years ago
If you have some kind of heart, if youre not egotistical, if you feel somewhat bad because someone is not getting cancer treatment because you absolutely need to be at the hospital because you have the flu, yea you should wait. Thats what happens in Canada. If youre waiting because you broke your nose, and some ambulance comes in with a patient with heart/respitory failure, Im not gonna get up and say *Doctor! Ive got some money here, treat my nose so I can go watch the Superbowl.* I sit & wait.

You all need the huge insurance pool that U.S. federal employees have - you subsidize 72% of it.
zappajohn 2 years ago
The acne pre-existing condition and incorrect weight scenarios he presents are both false claims. More health care myths being spread. EVEN if they were true, they would be the rare exception that proved nothing. Not like in Canada where almost EVERYONE waits months just to do an MRI that I can walk into and take.
BriansVideoHobby 2 years ago
So Brian how come Canadians live longer than Americans if our care is so terrible? Why does every ranking system out there put Canadian health care ahead of the U.S.?
SparwoodApple 2 years ago
The only organizations that put anyone ahead of us have a reason for providing the misinformation. I tell you what, show me ONE reliable institution that puts out life span numbers that DON'T include murders and accidental deaths. Just one. We lead the world in EVERY health category. Surgery, pharmaceuticals, Neurology, Oncology, Medical education institutions, ETC. Only an absolute fool would contend we don't have the best medicine in the world. The best of your system comes from the US.
BriansVideoHobby 2 years ago
OECD already called BS on your claims the US leads the world in lifespan when murders and accidents are factored out (2008 foot notes to economic survery of the US 2008) Even your source admiited his errors in the WSJ and admitted near the end of the article deducting murders would affect rankings of countries that are one year of U.S. lifespan. If you look at the number of murder and accidents in the US compared as a percentage to the total number of yearly deaths - it is not mathmatically
SparwoodApple 2 years ago
possible the US gain more than a year in life expectancy. As for us going south - at the absolute highest highest 5500 Canadians went purposely south for health care, much it for cosmetic surgeries - that is a fraction of a fraction of a percent of our population. Not Hordes
SparwoodApple 2 years ago
Tom challenges every statement Carrie makes and just nods and agrees with Sara as she lies her ass off. In Canada you can be forced to wait 2 years just to see your personal doctor for the first time. There are many clinics that haven't had doctors in 5+ YEARS. This is a worthless, dishonest, and slanted discussion. You can tell what a moron Tom is by his stance on Afghanistan.
BriansVideoHobby 2 years ago
In just one region of Toronto alone 80 family doctors are taking new patients right now. My dr here in Vancouver is taking new patients and I can get same day appointments with him. I hope you are not insinuating that the US has a very high level of health practicioners as the US ranks far below the OECD average for the amount of Doctors. Each and every country that ranks higher in terms of number of doctors, all have UHC
SparwoodApple 2 years ago

BriansVideoHobby 2 years ago
Nadeem Esmail is a right-wing columnist and part of a movement to help private interests get their hands on healthcare profits in Canada (as is the "independent" Fraser Institute). Like right-wingers in the U.S., they lie and misquote statistics to achieve their ends. In Britain privatized hospitals have led to the government spending twice as much on healthcare to subsidize these poorly performing operations. Just look up Private Finance Initiatives. Don't waste my time anymore, junior.
zappajohn 2 years ago
Blah, blah, blah. Your attacks mean nothing because my facts are correct. Need to see a specialist in England? Their GOAL is 18 weeks! 18 weeks! 4 1/2 MONTHS! And the real disappointment is that they have NEVER met that goal! Really, you can pretend this is something free people should put up with, I won't. Socialised medicine is a failure and we won't be having any of that here in the free world.
BriansVideoHobby 2 years ago
WOW, because someone dissagrees with your opinion they are lying?? Is your opinion a lie? Lets talk facts. Facts , government tax higher in Canada, Longer wait times for std. test compared to U.S. times, less technology because of lack of funds, preventave care better in Canada but longer lag time to get cures and procedures after diagnosed. Am I correct?
davids2244 2 years ago
Fact: When I lived in Florida, a state with no income tax, deductions from my check were as high as in Ontario, because of healthcare premiums. Fact: Wages are higher in Canada. Fact: 60% of bankruptcies in the U.S. come from medical expenses, and 75% of those bankrupted had insurance. Anyone with a life-threatening condition in Canada gets treated very quickly. Others who can wait, do. That''s the trade-off. In the U.S., many people never get treated. Trade our system for yours? No thanks.
zappajohn 2 years ago
There is difference in opinion. I also have lived both in Texas and Ontario for a short time. I never had to go to the doctor there in all fairness. But many of the neighbors I had did, the complaints of most were the wait times and lack of what we consider basic services such as MRIs Cat scans, and blood work were long waits. (Months). We have a 7% sales tax in Texas, when I was there it was 13%, An MRI takes 24 hour and blood and cats the same?? Thank you for your opinion
davids2244 2 years ago
I can go to any lab and get blood work in one day. Emergency MRIs are done immediately. There's no reason to do non-emergency ones right away. You must have had funny neighbors in Ontario. Texas is one of the worst states for healthcare problems among the uninsured.
zappajohn 2 years ago
Define Emergency MRI? Yours and someone else might be different. I look at it like this. If I pay for a private policy then I should not have to pay for public, or should be given a voucher to give me a choice of private or public, Not have to pay twice for the same. My option. Just like schools, if the government is going to make us pay for public, we should have the right to opt out or have some of our money back to pay for private. Make sense?
davids2244 2 years ago
Your doctor should determine if you need an emergency MRI; ours do. You are correct; a public/private system doesn't generally work. The book Trends in EU Healthcare describes how privatization is draining the public systems in European countries. Mexico has only about 45% of healthcare payed for by the government.
Medicare does not have to go bankrupt. It's all in where the government's spending priorities are. Expand medicare to cover all citizens. Take insurers out of the loop.
zappajohn 2 years ago
I am History major and a firm believer in those who forget the past repeat it. Medicare cost 9 times more than estimated; Social Security was suppose to be voluntary and is 25 times over estimates and they guaranteed never placing more than a 3% tax on the people. Now the post office is bankrupt, Fannie and Freddie are also. This is like having your irresponsible cousin to raise your children if something happen to you. Cousin or someone more responsible?
davids2244 2 years ago
You are correct, another failed policy of immigration by our government. People who have free health care by the government of Mexico, hmm where do they go? Government has no place in health care, now thatis just an opinion. If I could find a program our government did well and efficient I might not be as cynical. The Medicare program is bankrupt, along with social security, along with 280 trillion in unfunded commitments.
davids2244 2 years ago
I do not wish to get involved in something I know not enough of, and respectfully realize this, but I had to point out that months for bloodwork is, seriously and with all due respect, completely absurd. anyone (canadians) can get any bloodwork, anyday, waiting maybe 1h. Then youre out of the hospital. It is true that defining *emergency MRI* can be difficult, if it were not, there would be no debate. Taxes are high -in Quebec close to 15- but I like knowing a poor woman survived breast cancer.
LexIoana 1 year ago
@LexIoana Thanks for the reply. To keep it simple as Americans we have a problem giving upfreedoms and choices for 85% to give a 15% security. In your area you might have excelent care, but in other areas it is not as good. Because you live in an area that has good care does not mean the rest of the country receives those services as fast. Rationing does go on here also, not enough doctors or facilities, it is just not as wide spread or delayed as in many parts of Canada
davids2244 1 year ago
It is true that we have problems delivering health care in rural areas, especially in the high north, near alaska for example, where rough climates and low populations play a factor, but I would suspect you would have the same problems in some areas of the States, although not as much, since you are a highly populated country.
LexIoana 1 year ago
More facts: A study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that, on average, Americans receive only 52% of their recommended care. You can thank insurance companies for this. Health Canada 2008: patients self-reported wait times for surgery and other major treatments were on average three weeks.
You imply that you can waltz into a clinic and get an MRI anytime you want. Of course, if you want to shell out $1,000.
Otherwise, insurers second-guess every treatment your doctor prescribes.
zappajohn 2 years ago
Honestly I can give reports from both sides that would support an opinion one way or the other. I blame individual Americans honestly for not going to the doctor to receive care. Preventive care is not that bad a price self pay $75. Catastrophic is expensive. Most insurances have a deductable, some $ 100 some $2500. It does suck. But dying or going bankrupt, hmm, I think I will chose to live. Reform yes, takeover no.Thanks
davids2244 2 years ago
Thanks for good debate. Understand, we as Americans have a tendency to not trust a servant of our country to say to us, we have our plan and we will let you have less. Something fundamentally wrong with that. If you can convince our illustrious leaders to go on the same plan, then I might not be as cynical, until then I have a problem just because of past failures by government.
davids2244 2 years ago
The AVERAGE wait time between showing up to an ER in Canada with an illness requiring admittance and being admitted into the hospital is 29 HOURS!
BriansVideoHobby 2 years ago
Let's see your evidence. And don't try to get it from some website like Conservatives for Patients Rights. Anyone who reads this in Canada is laughing at you.
zappajohn 2 years ago
Dude, every study ever done in and out of Canada supports my claim. Get educated and stop waiting on me to spoon feed you. Google Canadian wait times and see for yourself. Average time waiting for knee or hip replacement? A YEAR!
BriansVideoHobby 2 years ago
You have no studies to support your claim. Canadian Journal of Surgery 2007: Average wait time for hip replacements is 6 months. Pain and dysfunction do not tend to change until after this point. This is a small percentage of the population, and an area in which Canada is improving. Our general health outcomes are very good. You always look for the worst case scenario, then exaggerate it. Yet, the problems in your system are far worse. Frankly, I find you a bit pathetic.
zappajohn 2 years ago 12
Isolated?
BriansVideoHobby 2 years ago
The CMA says nothing of the sort. Nor is actaul wait time 31 weeks. I don't even have to look that up. You're tiresome, and a waste of my time. Wait times, healthcare outcomes and more can be found in Health Canada studies, the Open Medicine study, and more. Suffice to say, no Canadians are about to trade their system for yours. Don't bother writing me anymore, because I won't respond.
zappajohn 2 years ago
Ahhh, blind denial. You would trade our health care system for yours in a SECOND. It's far superior. What you are referring to is insurance. Your Government tells you what you get and when you get it. Here, we have freedom of choice. Most of the advanced medicine Canada uses came out of our "for profit (3% profit)" system. What will you do when it's gone? My father in law had a heart attack and needs bypass surgery. His will be home recovering in 2 weeks. His MRI happened in 1 day.
BriansVideoHobby 2 years ago

I guess you've never heard of Medicaid and Medicare or any of our thousands of free clinics and charity hospitals?
BriansVideoHobby 1 year ago
Dont be naive, although they are great and humane, we also have charity homes for the homeless that give food and shelter. But just because we have these shelter homes doesnt mean there are magically no more homeless people. You have 47 million Americans with no health care whatsoever. How many charities would that take ?
LexIoana 1 year ago
BriansVideoHobby 1 year ago
Actually, you do ! According to your own research (America's Health Rankings), 27% of Americans are obese, resulting in 80 BILLION dollars spent on direct health care costs directly to obesity -- YOUR same study continues to say that if left unchecked, by 2018, 43% of Americans will be obese, resulting in 344 billions of $ related to obesity. Lastly, to belive that when I say Americans, I forget the 12 million aliens, the *super-rich* is juvenile and high-schoolish.
LexIoana 1 year ago
What is your point? Americans are fat?!?! Did you just learn that?!?! Sooooo... what? I'm now supposed to pay for the fat people because they abused thier bodies?
BriansVideoHobby 1 year ago
@BriansVideoHobby
It's sad that most of us shoot now then ask questions later.
jahellaspartan 1 year ago
Why do countries provide health insurance (poorly) but not food, clothes, housing, and a job? Aren't all of these more important? Isn't it really just a way to take money from those who have earned it and give it to those who haven't and pretend to be doing it for compassion. I think so.
BriansVideoHobby 1 year ago
This post was shocking and I had to re-read it to make sure I wasnt hallucinating ; Arent the Americans losing their jobs over the economic crisis, which was started by the collapse of the financing in housing, resulting in Americans losing their house ? They are all important -- which is why the Canadian system, public, does not abuse of the poor and do NOT take money from its own citizens when they are sick, as if it was a choice. I'd be intrested in your opinion, not a childish rant.
LexIoana 1 year ago
@BriansVideoHobby Well, if you don't get a heart surgery you need because you can't pay for it, food, clothes, housing and a job are prety useless, are'nt they ?

The median wait for a CT scan across Canada was 4.8 weeks. British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia had the shortest wait for CT scans (4.0 weeks), while the longest wait occurred in Manitoba (8.0 weeks).
The median wait for an MRI across Canada was 10.1 weeks. Patients in Ontario experienced the shortest wait for an MRI (7.8 weeks), while Newfoundland and Labrador residents waited longest (20.0 weeks).
BriansVideoHobby 2 years ago
Just so you have a comparison, I can walk in off the street here and get an MRI or CAT scan. You can keep your health care "bread lines". Your system is about to implode.
BriansVideoHobby 2 years ago
What you don't understand, junior, is that patients don't all need MRIs right away. Those who do get them very quickly. It's rather pathetic that with the inequities and serious problems Americans face getting health care, you cling to delusions about the state of your system and ours.
zappajohn 2 years ago
Nonsense, the news is full of people who were put on WAITING lists for MRIs when illnesses like brain tumors were suspected. There is a reason we have more MRI machines in a few border counties than you have in ALL of Canada, to serve the under-served Canadians. Our average wait time for an MRI is hours. Yours, 100 DAYS! Over 3 MONTHS! We invent these technologies AND have to provide them for you. Sad. When are canadians going to stop leeching off of us for technology and health care?
BriansVideoHobby 2 years ago
What you need to understand, socialist, is we don't have "wait time charts". We don't suffer and die waiting for care like the guy who sat for 34 hours, AFTER going untreated at one of your "clinics", and died of a simple bladder infection in your great hospitals. All he needed was a US invented x-ray, a US invented antibiotic, and a US invented pain pill. Instead, he's dead.

Is quebec as bad a steven crowder says?
MrTabby5000 2 years ago
Haven't lived in Quebec or had to use their Health Care. Each province has it's own health care system, and it's going to vary from city to city. Every time I've had to visit emergency in my town, we were being looked after in under an hour, usually less. Might take longer for a doctor to come through on his/her rounds. These weren't serious life-or-death situations either.
In BC, I'd say one of our biggest challenges is getting enough GPs. This is improving though.
Grimpen0 2 years ago
Health care in Quebec and BC are the same as all our provinces and territories the only differences are that some provinces covers curtain none life threatening conditions that others dont. But basic coverage is the same across Canada.
