  • Scrooge for president!

  • I don't think this version works because George C Scott is too much associated with General Patton. Titanic, Time After Time and the 1978 version of The Thirty Nine Steps have made David Warner the epitome of the sinister and villainous character in a Victorian or Edwardian context so he's not quite spot on as Bob Cratchit.

  • I think Ive seen every version of A Christmas Carol but this is the best version there is. To me THIS is the original and George C Scott IS Ebenezer Scrooge!!

  • I didn't know scrooge was a fan of clean energy.

  • The best portrayal of Ebeneezer Scrooge.RIP GCS.

  • Watch this every xmas!

  • This is my favorite version! I wish I could find the whole movie...

  • HE REMINDS ME OF MY DAD!!! Scrooge, anyhoo. "Garmets were invented by the human race as protection against the cold." My dad has said the SAME THING about clothes, fire, the wheel... you name it.

  • I watched This Version of Christmas Carol On Christmas Eve!

  • My favorite Scrooge ever!

  • Fantastic version. No other version comes close.

  • Even when I was 6 years old I appreciated what an amazing performance George C. Scott gave. Favorite version of this story ever.

  • THE BEST XMAS CAROL!!!!!!!!

  • I "like" how Scrooge menaces Cratchit in an ironic way...even as he was old, he was a handsome man, George C!

  • I have a question...in the credits, it appears production designerNORMAN FOSTER...THE FAMOUS ARCHITECT?

  • I have a question...in the credits, it apears production designerNORMAN FOSTER...THE FAMOUS ARCHITECT?

  • I really love this version! I liked a lot George C. Scott!

  • I really loe this version!

  • I WATCHED THIS IS LITERATURE CLASS JUST THIS WEEK! :D

  • He's very handsome. Bob Cratchet that is.

  • George.C. Scott is without a doubt the scariest and most intense Scrooge. The moment he screams "MR. CRATCHIT!!!!" I get a shiver crawling down my spine.

  • There's been lots of good Scrooges over the years, but if the role was like the Highlander and there could only be one. Then that one would be George C. Scott.

  • Mr. Cratchet! You magnificent bastard...

  • I've always loved Scott's sarcasm in this role. This version, next to Muppet Christmas Carol, was always a big fav of mine growing up.

  • It's funny how they hired heavies to play these parts. An American actor known for playing Old Blood and Guts as a physically intimidating Scrooge, David Warner, who played the villain in Tron as well as Jack the Ripper in Time After Time, as nice guy Bob Cratchit, and Edward Woodward (The Wicker Man and the Equalizer), as the Ghost of Christmas Present.

Roger Reese as Fred Holywell, Scrooge's nephew, could deliver the most complex lines of dialogue as if he were shooting the breeze.

  • They even had Frank Finlay who played Van Helsing in the '77 BBC Dracula as the Ghost of Marley, and Michael Gough of Hammer Studios, later Alfred in Batman, as one collecting for charity.

  • Best Scrooge ever!

  • This movie is a holiday tradition in our household. The 1951 production is good, but this one is my favorite. George C. Scott was simply fantastic as Scrooge, and the period production design and cinematography are amazing. Hard to believe this was a 1984 TV movie.

  • My favourite adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" Excellent cast...superbly acted. I have the dvd and it has become a tradition to watch it every Christmas Day.

  • It is a very useful lesson.

  • best scrooge ever. george scott played this part perfect

  • 0:12

One of the best parts about George C Scott's Scrooge was that really mean sounding yell he had.

  • I like how there are two people in this version who played Superman's parents.

  • @ryananderson280195

I know David Warner is one, but who's the second?

  • Mrs Cratchit played Lara El in Superman 12 and 4

  • My favourite version of A Christmas Carol. Really gets me in the Christmas mood. Great message aswell.

  • Simply the best, and a must watch every Christmas. Other versions are fine. This one is transcendent.

  • Yeah Cratchit! Buy some dern clothes and let Ebeneezer make some money. It's hard out here for a pimp, even in the early 19th century.

  • there's no better Christmas story than A Dicken's A Christmas Carol and this film with George C. Scott's the best version I've ever seen.

  • He must have had so much fun with his role.

  • David Warner as a nice guy?! I see his face and all I think about is that jerk in Titanic movie.

  • lol i see his face and i think of the guy who got his head cut off in The Omen. very morbid relation!

  • Glad to see that I'm not the only one who noticed that it's the same guy who played in The Omen!! I wonder if he's still alive...

  • @banther1972

Alive and still actting as a matter of fact. His name is David Warner.

  • What a great version of this timeless classic!

---It would have been much 'less' of a film had Geo.C.Scott not played the leading role.

  • Hmm this is a very interesting lesson on Clothing :)

  • i grew up on this one as well, and the name scrooge will forever remind me of george c scott's nose.

  • is this guy supossed to be scrooge from Walt disney and co, or does he just has the same name ?

  • He's rather supposed to be Scrooge from the 19th century Charles Dickens story!

I guess some literature lessons are required here ;-)

  • This version and the 1970 musical, are the best. The music and acting in this one is dramatic good. The last version I have seen was the 1999 one with Patrick Stewart.

  • I truly agree with everybody on this wonderfull scene! Nobody fits the role of Scrooge better than George C. Scott. Although I'm not too fond of the 1951 version however, since I grew up with this movie the 1984 version tops them all! I recently watched the musical version of Scrooge with Albert Finney and subsequently I wasn't really impressed with it simply because it wasn't as good as the others. But, with that said and I hate repeating myself I love this holiday classic more! :)

  • My personal favorite. I love 'em all but his line delivery and the trueness (is that a word) to the Dickens text is amazing. He studied Alistair Sims before he played this role. :-) Thanks for bosting.

  • i absolutely agree. Although I have seen other versions including Alastir Sims but this one still beats the others

  • I'll second that. I grew up on this version and have no interest in even seeing another version. To me, this one cannot be beat.

  • Flat out the greatest version of the Christmas Carol ever produced. And easily the creepiest Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come that I've seen in any production.

  • oh my god that thing used to scare the crap out of me when I was young

  • @Teigue82 Don't shut out my pal Mr. Marley :)
