I was twelve years old when i watched it and honestly, I didn't think it was scary. At the least. A well directed and well acted movie, yes. But not scary. The moments that were supposed to be scary made me laugh :/

not of all the people appreciate the horror movie it's my first time that o watch this in the apartment of my grand father. With my cousins it's so very scared I am only 10 years old when I watch this movie and then it was late night I wana sleep but I can't it's so very scary and then I tiry to sleep and after that I wake up at 3 :00 in a m I remember the exorcist so SCARED . Within 1 week that always happened to me when I sleep every 3:00 am am always in wake up and I remember the exorcist

talking about films, this is the most difficult and well assembled films of all times. They didn't have the luxury and convenience of computer graphics like a lot of shallow cheap modern films have today.

I was 18 in 1973 and remember going to Westwood and standing in a line about 1/4 mile long just to see it. To this day there has not been a movie that has shocked and scared people like this one!

@khj93play Agreed, and there probably won't ever be if people don't quit trying to make the next big exorcist movie. Especially when they use CGI instead of doing it the old school way, with prosthetics and very little special effects, which is what made it a lot more effective - not to mention the fact that when this movie came out people hadn't already seen many exorcism movies.

the omens' music is terrifying and the scenes , the decapitation and the priest being impaled, are even scarier!

we only see 2 deaths' in the exorcist (the 2 priests) and their nothing special, and regan being possessed and the crucifix scene whilst gross certainly didn't scare me!
