FWIW, I remember seeing something on the tube a long time ago about a cop to had to take out a criminal with a shotgun(hostage situation, criminal holding hostage in front w/ gun to hostages head). The cop determined he had to take a head shot because anything else risked the criminals hand jerking and pulling the trigger on the gun pointed at the hostages head. He made the shot, and the hostage survived
At 1:58 they're firing at one of the hostage targets. Who would use a shotgun for hostage situations?! Even with a narrow choke the spread of pellets will still probably hit the hostage.
0.15 & 0.18 were instructors there. They are the only ones who have sidearms on and have the camo BDUs. The bigger guy is such a fanactic about his shotgun. If he brought out his benelli like he did at our training and showed off what he could do. Sometimes I think some instructors need to focus on instruction and not showing off their toys or gear.
normaly yes you're right, but this type of training will allow operators to learn the spread patters of thier shotguns and only have half or a quarter section hit the guys head and not harm the hostage.
I sometimes carry a mossberg 590 on the job. I find that the "South African Carry" is the most useful. Thats muzzle down - on the back of the left shoulder. This presents a low profile - you can hide the weapon easier - and it allows you to roll it right up into position to fire in a snap.
Thank you Philifancmcg. At 1:41 I love what the big guy is wearing. He and his buddy are wearing matching urban camo with tank tops and tats. I think can see body armor also. Frickin great. i'm not saying that firearm training is bad but man. This just doesn't look right to me. I posted my vid response above.
Yes I have. I have a rifled one on my Rem. 870 Tac. I also hae the speedfeed iv-s stock and a drilled and taped rail on top. Right now it has ghost rings but I plan on getting a holographic sight. Hopefuly something with the tritum gas.
no one told me not to shoot at captors with birdshot or #4 buck... oh well... and these classes arent bullshit they are full of useful tactics and training on how to turn a simple tube into a surgical weapon.
Birdshot indoors. Slugs produce higher sound levels and WILL carry into your neighbors house. I use #8 birdshot for home defense. You shouldn't be shooting a distance greater than 20 feet. and the sound of the action will scare the shit out of any criminal with half a brain.
My friends and I took the defensive shot gun class and developed a whole new respect for the shot gun. Wow, what an awesome fighting tool it can be in competent hands. The sling is very useful if you know what to do with it. We recommend this class for personal, property & family protection.
i dont know about civilians but they teach the army to never shoot with your torso perpendicular to your legs. always approach the enemy while shrinking your silhouette. i have never applied this in combat so i don't know if this is the best thing to do or not... by the way i'm drunk and i'm getting hungry.
Generally, this is true. The exception is when you're wearing body armor (including SAPI plates). In that case, the body armor protects better from the front & rear (where the SAPI plates are) than from the sides.
LEEEEEEEEEEAN into that weapon TROOP!

in hostage situations they use slugs. and to breach doors. and they have a certain "shit your pants" factor when your looking down the barrel of one
BurroBurrito1 2 years ago
@mrdavies09 That's precisely what I thought. I don't get it.

Your short stroke will get longer when you hit puberty. 8^D. J/K
You can get better forends that improve the grip with rubber and or shape that can help with that. The hand slings will slow you down.

@stanloves2skt:
A single slug is only .73" in diameter. It won't hit both the bad guy and the hostage.

Who's going to take that shot in reality?
crazyyella 2 years ago
what a waste of ammo. at our range we do compititions based on time, we shoot metal targets at close range. this however is competely pointless

I asked the same thing.
Even if you do only hit the target, that poor hostage is going to be washing brain matter out of her hair for weeks.

are slug guns good for defense or worth it in general, etc.? or is it best to just stick with regular shells/shot/whatever?

They are taught to not put their long gun on the ground. That is why they have slings.
