sounds like his track dedicated to 9/11, watched him play at a music store in thousand oaks a couple of nights ago, he is amzing, and such a pleasant human being!...he's on my new list of fave players!
Powerful performance!! Id pay to see this kind of soulful guitarist live! Thank you Andy For such an awesome song and performance even to a camera and not to big crowd.
I can prove shred is easier to play than "music", which is what this is. Spend a few minutes in Guitar Center. You will see teenagers come in and shred through arpeggio sweeps, blazing tapped runs, and fast and heavy drop D chunka riffs. However, you will almost never see a youngster pick up a Strat and play anything that required anything other than muscle memory. What Timmons does, is use incredible hand tone and artistry to make music. Nothing wrong with shred, I love it. But theres more!
@MrDarinWarren although i do agree with what your saying,,its not necessarily always true..the shred style has its one difficulty and technique just like any other style, and not everyone can play it...i happen to play lots of style and can appreciate from artists liek andy timmons to the likes of i dunno say megadeth or something...what people need to realize that music doesn't have to be a certain one thing, and that there is good music everywhere not just in one genre or style..
@MrDarinWarren im one of those rare teens that plays melody driven guitar emulating a satch/timmons sound. I go to my local music store and see tons of metal heads shredding though so i know what u mean. Im only interested in making passionate music that has a good listening melody to the point where my non-guitar playing friends can enjoy it too. not mindless shred
Vai and timmons are worlds apart timmons is kind of a vintage guitar player with tasty phrasing and amazing tone and vai is an innovator always searching for something new and an amazing composer but theyre equally good as guitar players.
timmons and vai are different, andy has more a jazzy and classic approach, steve on the other hand has more of a metal approach. theyre both great incredible guitar players, but you cant compare them
@systemofadiego I highly recommend Anyd's latest album ''Resolution''. First of all it's pure music creativity. Second of all, it sounds like monster. Third and impressing is the fact that there's only one guitar recorded on each track, no backing guitars :)
I used to eat Thanksgiving with his wife's family, so me and him would jam while the food was getting ready! LEARNED SOOOO MUCH!!!!! Miss the old days alot right now watchin this.
One of the best out there right now but trying to resurrect Joe Satriani in this fashion is futile. Joe has been doing this since 1985. I love Andy's approach and obviously he is worthy of the throne but I am still drawn toawrds the man that started this whole world.
I can't find anything bad to say about Andy Timmons. The guy has incredible feel and chops to go along with it. He's a player's player. I notice something new every time I go back and watch this video that helps my playing.

Maybe because he thinks it sounds better with this one. But if his goal was to please my musical tastes (which it obviously isn't) he would have chosen a les paul.
"He should pick another guitar, and it would sound great. It would sound good on a les paul"
That isn't just any old guitar. It's his signiture model he designed with ibanez, i.e. it's tailor made around his specifications, desires and needs as a guitarist.
Well then, if I had such a guitar, I wouldn't pick any other over it :)
But I just think that there is a little too much of the high-end, especially in the start. Actually, now I think about it, this guitar seems to be perfect for his style.
These people can't get big in the US so they sell out to Japan fans.. These people are nothing more then session guitar players copying people like VI, sat, and some others.. Stop selling out to Japan..
Hey buddy, you definitely have no idea what you are saying. Andy is nothing of a session guitar player. Please go and do a bit of research before writing those out of place comments here.
You'd better open your mind and start buying other records apart from Vai and Satriani stuff.
Haha if you think Andy sounds anything like Satch or Vai then you are very un-musical and need ear training. Andy is big in the US as far as success goes, sans fame, and yeah he is a session player, session players are the Jedi of guitarists, they have to be able to play anything at anytime and do it perfectly, otherwise the producer finds someone else to do the job. Andy is top of the line in that world.
im sure all ppl who are musical enough can say that andy has got mad talent. ive never heard any1 that sounds like this guy. he is phenomenal and very underrated. not that satch or vai isnt good, but i dont think they compare to andy
Hes got skills but I feel he tries to build music rather then create music. I love his stuff and appreciate it. I think the only song he really feels is Electric Gypsy.
I'd say he's got way more soul than Vai and Satch, actually that's why I prefer him over other "shredders". But then again, criticizing any of these guys is like winning $1000 and complaining you didn't win $1020.
no he's got more soul than vai but not satch like listen to if i could fly , always with me always with you , crying , revelation and so on joe writes better than timmons to me nut timmons is amazing
Well, for me it's the other way around. Just listen to songs like Dying Day, Blue Powder, Frank or Warm Regards from Vai. And there are certainly more. In those songs you can almost drown in the amount of soul Vai shows there. Well, at least as far as I'm concerned. All a matter of taste.
I have to agree with you. Satch is very soulfull something that Vai misses. Andy is amazing, this is so beautiful. His sound is spectacular. I love Satch too. A lot.
andy builds music? i think u got it way wrong. i think steve is the kind of guy who builds his music. Steve's music and the licks and phrasings he uses is very 'different'.. like his song km pee du wee. very unique and seems designed. there are strengths in that, but andy's strength is definitely the way he 'feels' his music
The best music has a good balance between melody, phrasing and technical ability (this is such)
