Cant even get the first set of screws unscrewed, what's up with that? Bought the correct tool kit and the screws don't look stripped. Anybody have any ideas??
i grabbed a lcd screen off you guys, got to the last step where everythings taken apart, but is there a video to go from what you do to put the lcd screen back in, to putting the rest of the phone back in place? thanks
@eriic2742 We currently do not have a re-assembly video up for the MyTouch 4G. However, this guide will show all steps, just reversed. The LCD screen will go in, just like it came out.
Hi great video by the way. When attempting to release the jaw clip as in 4:57 the jaw clip broke. Now the screen won't light up but the buttons do. I think that it is because there is a connection problem between the lcd screen and the motherboard from this broken jaw clip. its there a way to attach a new jaw clip or would I have to purchase a new motherboard? Thanks.
So..I'm up to 4:52 on the video and the top part of the motherboard feels like its glued to the sliver part of the phone..im worried that if i try to remove i may rip it...I see two small dots on top too (im not too sure if these are bolts) should i just continue to open it with the pry tool??
@drthompson13 Double check that all screws are removed. If there are still a few screws holding the motherboard flex in place, remove those first. There will be some adhesive, but it should be fairly easy to lift.
Everything seems to be working fine (phone turns on/ receives messages), but the LCD display is pitch black except for a big blob in the middle of the screen. There was a similar shape on the LCD when I was reassembling the phone. Would that help explain the outcome? Have I broken my LCD? Any other suggestions? Thanks!
Are there any troubleshooting sites? We replaced my daughters digitizer this weekend. Initially when we turned it back on, we dot white lines, then we took it apart and verified connections, now we get nothing.
@TheJkferguson If the connection looks good then it sounds like either the LCD screen itself was damaged, or the LCD screen flex cable became ripped. I would suggest examining the LCD screen carefully to see if this is the case.
Today my phone was on red below 5% (its never got that low before) I charged it, it came on ran properly for about 5min then the screen started to freeze a little so took the battery out & let it charge for awhile I then tried to power it back on no response just a black screen but the orange light was on. I left it on charge for another 15min then the light changed to green. Still no response. Lately my buttons have been acting up don't know if that has anything to do with anything. pls help!!
@RepairsUniverse Thanks for the quick response! When I plugged it into my computer it signals that its connected but my screen still isn't responsive. As far as damages none that I'm aware of.
@RepairsUniverse Yes when charging the battery get pretty darn hot. For about the past week or so my back button only responds when I push it really hard, almost causing my finger to hurt, because its kind of stuck down. Also when I go to lock my screen tapping the power button once, then releasing I noticed that sometimes it will not lock at all it just stays lit up till my screen times out.
@kushkupkakes Hmm.. Was hoping that wasn't the case. The overheating is not a good sign and normally means its more of a motherboard issue. As for the power button, that is part of the motherboard flex cable. Seems like they all are related. If the phone is under warranty, I would suggest taking it back in and letting them deal with it. Overheating is a fairly common issue with faulty HTC motherboards and parts.
@kushkupkakes No problem at all. Let us know if they won't swap it out. There are a few fairly cheap replacement parts that may resolve the issue, but no way to guarantee it will.
hey , i dropped my Mytouch , and the glass screen came off , it didnt have any glue holding it , but it is still connected to the phone , but only the top part of the screen works , please help?
@TheLuceroStudioz Could have caused the flex cable to rip a bit, or possibly the connection came a bit loose. Sadly, you will need to follow this video fully to gain access to the touch screen connection.
I've dropped mine a lot since I've had it, and now the wifi turns on and off whenever I turn it on, and I can't do anything about it. Do you why this is happening and how I can fix it?
@SilverShadic360 Could be a few different things. The best thing would be take it to a local repair shop who can diagnose the issue. However there are a few quick things you can check. You can follow this video for about 4:00 minutes and check all the motherboard connection, especially around the white antenna cable.
i dropped my phone and it still turns on and works but its all black and i cant see anything, is their anything i can do to fix it or is it no hope at all for the phone?
@l0St03807 Normally this can just be a loose connection for the LCD screen, or the LCD screen has become damaged. If it still powers on, vibrates, etc, then it is very likely just a display issue. I would check the connection and if it appears fine, replace the LCD screen and that should resolve the issue.
Great video, has no problems at all. Some glue came off with the old screen. But as a ghetto rigged solution I used small amounts of precision placed rubber cement, and worked just fine :) also people complaining on not knowing how to put it back together properly. If you dont know how to put it together, you probably should take it apart in the first place. Only costed me $16 to replace :) once again thanks for the video! your a life saver :)
Thanks, I bought your digitizer kit and a few tools for $50 and saved the $130 deductible on the sleazy TMobile insurance. The phone works perfectly after the process that took me 2 hours. Yeah, don't forget the two easy-to-spot screws and two pieces of double sided tape on the mother board. The digitizer I got didn't included the double sided tape to secure it. I bought the generic piece of DS tape, which I had to cut into strips to fashion my own.
i replaced the lcd and glass digitizer using this video but when i put it all back together, but now all the buttons on the bottom (home/setting/back/g) dont work. please helpp?
@SuperAntman12 Normally this is just caused by an alignment issue with the keypad, or possibly a connection issue on the keypad flex cable, under the buttons themselves. I would suggest checking the cable at 3:52 to be sure it is fully secure and no damage has occurred to that flex cable.
My Mytouch 4g had gotten wet but only around the volume part it only works when it wants to and the worst part is that it to hard reset mode and i had did almost ever hard reset video there is here and i follow all the steps but it goes bad the reset menu , what can i do thank you.
@Soccer1012310 Could be a motherboard flex issue if it involves the volume button. May be worth trying to replace this flex cable and see if it functions properly then. These are available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
@MrHitthatsplif That is odd. You will either need to use a screw extractor to remove the screw, or use a small drill bit to drill out the screw and remove. These are your two easiest options.
I need help I dropped my mytough 4g in water its been about a week now when I put the battery in it and I have 2 batteries to test it... well when I press the power button the screen lights up but when I let the button go it turns off it does not boot what could be wrong should I take it apart and clean it or does it sound like i need to replace something.... thank you for your help...
@wgibanez Very tough to diagnose water damage from afar, however I can give some basic diagnosing tips. Plug the device into a computer and see if it is recognized - If it is, then likely the motherboard is fine and it could be a battery issue, LCD screen issue, or charging issue. If it is not recognized then it is likely some motherboard damage has occurred.
@RepairsUniverse thanx for your help I called HTC today and pretty much was told the same thing : ( oh well.... but thanx again for your quick response...
@RepairsUniverse so I took apart my mytouch just like the video except the screen I think the motherboard is the issue because aside from the computer not recognizing it it also has cloudy areas on the bottom and top of mother board strip. now if I replace the motherboard what else would I need to do to it to boot and work properly given thats the only issue...
@wgibanez Would depend on the on the replacement motherboard. Technically there should be nothing you would need to do, just boot it up and possibly preform a hard reset on the device. We focus mostly on hardware, the software side is not our area of expertise, however we have swapped many motherboards without an issue.
Hey, my mytouch is like completely blacked out. the only thing that lights up is the amber light when I put it on charge. Screen is black and power button or nothing works. And everything is fine, no water damage or anything at all. Please reply and let me know what the problem could be.
@drthompson13 No problem at all! If they give you a hard time, you can attempt the repair yourself. It is very straightforward and the price of MyTouch 4G LCD screens have come down in price recently. May be less of a hassle. Good luck!
T-Mobile actually just sent me this phone b/c my last My Touch had a software problem but Im pretty sure they sent me a new phone b/c it was a exchange type of deal..I have insurance on it.
its easy to disassemble the home button assembly. there are 2 clips thats holding it in place. just gently pry it and careful not to break it. the home button should be properly seated. there are also 2 small clits where in the home button assembly. i think you should slide the home button UNDER those clits. not too sure though .. if that dont work. try to seat the home button on TOP of those clits. good luck!
Thanks again RepairUniverse for the reply. I finally got it fixed. @SnObUnNiE04..what i did is I noticed that the touchscreen was I think blocking the menu button or it was pressing the home button down causing the device to boot on safe mode. I reheat both the top part of the digitizer and the bottom part of the LCD and gently pushed it upward.. away from the home button. Then I also disassemble the home button assembly and made sure that it was properly seated on the housing. sorry, no video
@efrain5601 Likely just an issue with a connection on the motherboard. I would suggest disassembling to the motherboard and checking all connections on the motherboard, especially around the sim card tray.
hello. I just replaced my LCD and digitizer using your video. This video is great! Anyway, I thought everything went well. it looks like. hehe.. but when i turn it on, I noticed that its running on safemode. . and the home and menu button is stuck. i can't press it down. if I losen the bottom screws. it works, but if put the outer cover again.. same thing. checked everything and they look ok. now it only boots on the boot screen. only way to turn it off is to take the battery off. any tips? thx
@coolpals Glad to hear the repair went smooth! As for the safe boot, this is caused when the buttons are pressed in. Normally this is caused by over-tightened screws on the housing, or bad alignment. The best way to fix this is to remove the housing and just attempt it again with a bit less tension around the power and menu buttons.
@coolpals i am having this same exact problem... been using a (crappy)replacement for over a month now and i have tried putting my phone back together now about 16 times and even had a few other people try. If you manage to or already have managed to get it back together please please let me know how you did it! best of luck!
@RepairsUniverse I replaced the Glass Touch Screen. And I checked the cables, I ended up figuring out that it was the LCD screen. =( so i'm just gonna try and replace that too now =/
@AznRere Yes, these LCD screens are very fragile, as are their flex cables. Take your time with the repair and be extra cautious of the LCD and flex cables. Good luck! Let us know if any other issues arise. Replacement LCD screens can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
after i replaced my screen, my phone turns on and everything but now the only problem is that my screen is like black/white and when it loads to my homescreen...its like sooo black and dark i can barely even see anything..please help!
@AznRere Which screen was replaced - the glass touch screen or the LCD screen? Likely just a connection issue from the LCD screen's flex cable to the motherboard. I would double check this connection.
When I received my touch screen digitizer, there is clear film on both sides. Obviously the front side is to protect the screen from scratching. whatabout the back side? Do I remove it before I install the screen? Also, you really should update the video with the "4 screw" thing regarding the motherboard removal, it would make this the BEST videoout there. THanks
@42youtub The front is a screen protector, as is the rear. The back protector will need to be removed. The purpose of this is to protect the circuitry of the digitizer and prevent scratches. Thank you for your advice. This video is in fact on our list of videos that need updating.
Good luck and let us know if you have any further questions.
Thanks for helping me think this through. Now I understand. I wasn't pushing in the buttons far enough into their proper seating until I heard them click. I did that and now my issue is fixed.
My menu and back buttons are stuck because the motherboard is pressing too hard from behind. The buttons work until I push the bottom of the motherboard into it's plastic clip there for holding it down. And thats when the buttons get mashed. What is going on here?
@drjazz88 Hmm. does seem a bit odd. I assume the motherboard is clipped into the housing correctly? Also the buttons and button flex is properly seated? Sounds like something is not aligned properly, but difficult to say what exactly. I would check the motherboard to see what is physically pressing the back of the buttons.
first thanks so much for the video. second, i have everything back together and it works fine, except the buttons at the bottom. they aren't touching the domes for some reason? i can't figure it out. any tips on putting the keymat and domes back?
@Jamesdash No problem at all! That alignment is very stubborn sometimes... You will need to disassemble again to the point where you can adjust the bottom flex, then check periodically during assembly to be sure the buttons are still aligned. Sometimes housing can jar them out of alignment or even physically stop them from pressing down. Will just take a small bit of trial and error, no real secret to the process sadly. Good luck!
So my main issue is those buttons being pressed down and it being stuck in safe mode. Also someone told me that the lcd is seated in a metal housing, and by me taking it out it probably came out separately. He told me he could try to re seat the lcd.but there is a likely chance that he would crack the lcd.
@190Bmxer190 This is normally caused by not enough "lift" (adhesive) from the touch screen and LCD screen. Also it is possible that the side buttons are being pressed in, many times this is caused by over tightened screw housing. I would not be too concerned about damaging the LCD screen. Move it around to the correct position, add some adhesive and re assemble. That should resolve the issues.
i reassembled my phone and everything is fine except my phone wont go pass the re boot screen ! how do i gett it pass this and where can i buy the adhesive to lay the screens back down?
@TYPOOH9210 Could be a few reasons it will not fully boot. Check to be sure none of the side buttons are being pressed in, making the phone attempt to boot in safe mode, or similar. Sometimes this can be caused by over tightening the housing screws. Also may be worth checking the motherboard and flex cable for loose or bad connections. Adhesive can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com. We have used this adhesive for many years with great results.
@j5match This is the LCD flex cable and is very important to get a full connection. It is a tight fit, however here are a few things that may help: be sure the flex cable is fully through the housing without any slack. Make sure the jaw clip is fully opened and move the motherboard and MB flex all the way next to the cable, nearly overlapping the screen assembly. Gently get the flex cable aligned with the connection and slowly push the cable into the slot. You can then close the connector.
I am a do-it-yourself type. I have repaired a lot of things on my on. I replaced the screen on my blackberry awhile back. I can tell you I wish I had never attempted this. An inexpensive do-it-yourself repair has now turned into sending this somewhere at more expense than it wouldve been had I just done that in the first place. I will now have to pay for a new motherboard due to the extremely delicate parts that I have broken trying to re-assemble this phone. I would not advise this method.
I tried this method last night. I now have a blob where it looks like the screen is touching the LCD screen and the volume flex cable broke off in my fingertips without even pulling on it. The phone seems to be on but nothing on screen at all. I think the main cable (the very short one thats hard to put back in) isnt in right. Do you sell replacement audio flex cables?
@j5match Using the correct thickness of adhesive will give the touch screen enough lift from the LCD screen. It may be necessary to add more. The motherboard flex cable controls everything from the power button, headphone jack, volume buttons camera, and more. These are available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
@RepairsUniverse Thank you.. Its the very skinny volume one that broke off, the rest are back in and feel normal after reassembly. Is the phone usable with the volume one broken? like using the controls in the phone's software?
Also, there was a small clear plastic piece that fell out during disassembly and I dont know where it goes. Help please. :)
@j5match Yes, you can use software to avoid using the physical buttons. HTC has been using this volume button system for a while and it is very fragile and poor design. But if you ever feel the need to replace it, it is the full motherboard flex cable that will need to be replaced.
As for the clear plastic piece, it is likely just a brace for the housing. Reassembling without it will not disrupt the functionality in this case. It may be worth adding more adhesive to give the digitizer more lift
@TheRobVollmar We suggest using fresh adhesive strips. These are available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com. Also check out our "Touch Screen Assembly" video in our channel. It will go over the basics of applying new adhesive to your touch screen.
hi, i followed all the steps and i got the phone apart great but now my bottom two buttons, the back and genius button do not click, and i am also getting a factory reboot screen. I tried the advise you gave to cgtrademark but i am still getting the screen... i have assembled disassembled and reassembled again and again same thing.... i do not have the back case on, just what i need to turn the phone on so there's no way its the volume... any ideas? id hate to have to buy a new phone :'(
@SnObUnNiE04 Sounds like an issue with the keypad button flex cable. Either the connection is loose, damaged, being pressed in, etc. My focus would be on this flex cable. I am unsure, but it is possible the safe boot screen is being caused because these buttons are registering as already being pressed in. Start there and let us know if you come up with anything. Good luck!
You forgot to include the removal of 2 phillips head screws from the mother board that have to be removed to get it out. I almost broke the motherboard trying to force it out before I realized these 2 screws had to come off.
I got the digitizer, replaced it and was in the process of reassembling the phone. My problem came when I was putting the last outer casing back on and that little cover it seems to be too tight and make the home buttons not function they're stuck physically. Any ideas ?
@Numnizzle Hmm, I would disassemble partly and try to re-adjust and align all the parts a bit better. Loosening up the screws a bit can sometimes help as well.
I gave you guys are Hard time on facebook, but I am ready to eat crow and eat my words.. This worked perfect. Only thing you missed were the screws on the mother board.. I had seen that on another video. Im guessing yours had already been apart another time.. That being said, my phone works great, new glass is in.. all buttons work.. so far so good.. was worried about the power button there for a minute but it work.. Again im sorry for the hard times.. you guys rock..
@Imguy329 Glad to hear. And we do understand, it is always a bit of a urgent and frustrating time when a phone is damaged and in need of repair. Thank you for mentioning the screws on the motherboard as well.
After assemble, my phone turns on and the main functions work. The ringer/speaker does not work does not function. Vibrator works. When using the camera it works fine until I switch to the front camera and then close the camera app. Please help.
After i reassembled everything, my power button doesn't work.... I tried turning it on with the back frame out and it didnt work either. I doubt theres anything wrong with the internals as when i charge it, the orange LED light comes on. Please help? Also, its worth noting that i cant find the teeny little plastic sheet that came on the inside of the power button.......What DO I DO?
@shahwill1 I would suggest removing the power button and then attempting to turn it on without the button in place. That will narrow down the exact cause. We have had many issues with the power button flex cable on the MyTouch 4G. Check for damage around the motherboard flex cable, it seems to become weak and rip very easily around the power button.
@RepairsUniverse By removing the power button, do you mean taking out the flex cable or the POWER button on the back frame?? I have tried it without the back frame coz the battery still goes in, but it still doesn't work. Also, T-Mobile sent me a replacement phone but they're going to inspect for 'physical damage'. My screen is installed correctly and there is no physical damage, do you think they will charge me the $80 for a new one? Also, i have it modded so will that be a problem???
@shahwill1 Removing the physical power button. Likely an issue with the motherboard flex cable if that is the case. You should not have an issue returning the phone, however you would need to check with your provider to see the exact qualifications. We have had customers who have destroyed their phones and still got replacements. Others have a screw missing and are charged. Seems to vary quite a bit.
So if I accidentally broke the power cord flex cable, is there a way to fix it? like reconnecting it somehow? It got disconnected right at the actual button, not at the motherboard. Thanks.
@biancabiancadonka If a flex cable is damaged there is no way of repairing it. Replacing the flex cable would be the best option. I am assuming the power cord flex cable is for the power button. The motherboard flex cable at RepairsUniverse (dot) com will replace this power button flex cable.
So I did all of the steps just like shown once I put my phone back together it gave me a system reboot factory setting screen and now it wont turn on. Help?
@cgtrademark This is pretty common on the MyTouch 4G. What is happening is the volume button is being forced in, either on the button itself or on the inside volume button flex cable. This can happen by tightening the housing too tight or by the volume button flex being pressed. See if you can press the volume buttons. If they click, you will likely need to disassemble. If is stiff, loosen the housing screws a tad.
@TheRealTonemeister69 We suggest using new adhesive. Heating and applying presure can work, but may only be a temporary solution. Using new adhesive is the best way of creating a secure bond. Adhesive strips can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
@RepairsUniverse its something about how tight you insert the screws....if they are too tight it will press against the button....thus taking you to the boot screen when you power on.....
@dboiwil8503 Very interesting, we will keep note of this for future reference.. We have had similar issues with customers whose housing is slightly pressing the volume button. We did not make the connection that the screws could also apply a similar presssure. Thank you very much.
Follow this precisely and reassembled (BTW it sucks that you don't show putting back together even if it is the same process in reverse.) after I reassembled the genius button and the button right next to it no longer push down and when I turn the phone on I get a weird boot screen and the phone does nothing.
@Corben2781 This is specifically a disassembly guide, following the guide in reverse will show the exact same steps as an assembly guide. There are a few possible reasons the buttons are not functioning; the keypad flex cable may not be lined up properly or the cable may not be fully connected (or possibly even damaged). Be sure that the buttons are set in the appropriate place for contacts from the buttons to fully connect.
@RepairsUniverse Ok I figured out my issue, the button on the bottom of the phone during reassembly get stuck on. those booting the phone into a weird service mode. Is there a way to take this buttons apart?
@Corben2781 Interesting. Is it the physical button that is pressing against the flex cable or just the flex cable reading that it is being pressed? The keypad buttons have 2 sections, the physical outer buttons and underneath, the keypad flex cable. I would separate them and poke around a bit. If that does not work, replacing the flex cable should resolve the issue. Check out RepairsUniverse (dot) com for this part.
I used the video and was successful in replacing the screen. It does take a lot longer than shown in the video and certain parts seem easier in the video than in reality, but the video was helpful and true if you follow it exactly.
@cristen222 Great work with the repair. This is a video walk through meant to show the steps of disassembly. Some areas may appear easier in the video, but all steps are shown. The amount of time to fully disassemble will be longer than the video, as the video is edited.
On my mytouch 4g the call/contact/call log/menu area on the bottom when I touch it dont work. its 1inch issue on the top side work fine. and I cant use some apps, games. Plz help
@samdetroit89 Any previous issues with the phone? A recent drop, water exposure, previous screen replacement? Sounds like an issues with the bottom sensors on the touch screen. Could be because of a loose connection or damaged cable/connection. If those check out, a screen replacement will likely resolve the issue. Replacement touch screen can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
I just replaced my cracked digitizer, I followed your instructions to the T, and upon reassembly, my phone does not turn on. Do you have any idea what the problem could be? Phone worked fine w/ cracked glass, and now with the new, it does not work. I checked the power button snap connector and all seems to be perfectly in place. Any suggestions or tips would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you for the great video!!
@VDUB113 Does it not turn on, or just not display? The digitizer should not effect the display in any way. A few places to start would be checking the LCD screens connection and flex cable.
I did this repair and reassemble. I am the same issue as the individual earlier comment the 4 buttoms are stock together. another issue that arised is that the phone does not gets signal from Sim card. When I search for networks, it does detect ATT not tmobile. I check to see if I had misconnected any other antena wires but everything seems to be ok. after trying many times the signal came on for approx 15 seconds and the samething. Any suggestions on this please. oscarquintanilla27@gmail.com
@obonilla1234 That seems very odd about the signal. Unsure why it would only pick up ATT... I would just retrace your steps a bit and make sure all the connections are good and no damage to the flex cables have been made, especially around the antennas and sim card tray. As for the buttons, the flex cable and buttons on top can usually be adjusted to get the correct response from each button.
@MriiMbLacK You will need adhesive for the digitizer replacement, but it is suggested for nearly any internal repair. Some adhesive that has been in the phone for some time does not have the "stick" that is desired to hold parts together.
@40mix Currently we do not have an assembly video. It is simply reversing the steps of the disassembly. If you follow it closely, there should be no issue assembling your MyTouch 4G again.
I fixed the screen fine but when i put it back together The 4 button on the bottom of the phone wont click down(as if they are already being pressed) Help please!
@RepairsUniverse Yeah I did should I use more? I noticed when I get the motherboard into the clips, that's when the problem arrives and the buttons stop clicking =/
@JoeG444 I would suggest disassembling to that point and see what is causing the buttons to sink down. I am unsure if purely adding more adhesive will resolve the issue. You will need to figure out the actual cause and then you can figure out how to resolve.
@RepairsUniverse Yeah, its like as soon as I put any pressure on the area where those 4 bottom keys are(Pushing the motherboard in the bottom clip) Or Screwing the two silver screws in, is when i hear a click, which is when the buttons get pressed from the back therefore making it unable to press them the way they were supposed to be pressed.
@JoeG444 Hmm, that sounds like it needs a bit of pushing upwards. I would double check the video and see if there is either a piece you are missing or if you are putting it in in a different order, etc. I personally have never heard of this issue from others.
@RepairsUniverse Possibly, I think I'm going to pry off the black part that seats the buttons (5:17 right beneath the golden cable) and see if something may be stuck in it. Appreciate the quick responses! If you think its a bad idea let me know cause I'm not too sure if that was supposed to be removable or not. =]
@JoeG444 You should have no issue doing that, Usually these are held in with adhesive. I wouldn't think that would be causing the full issue, but difficult to tell as I do not have it sitting in front of me. Sounds like you are getting close to diagnosing the issue, keep searching (carefully), your bound to find the cause. Good luck!
@sonpreetdoal Sounds like a connection issue. Check the LCD screen flex cable. Make sure it is fully in place into the connector. Also check for damage like rips.
Cant even get the first set of screws unscrewed, what's up with that? Bought the correct tool kit and the screws don't look stripped. Anybody have any ideas??

i grabbed a lcd screen off you guys, got to the last step where everythings taken apart, but is there a video to go from what you do to put the lcd screen back in, to putting the rest of the phone back in place? thanks
eriic2742 6 days ago
@eriic2742 We currently do not have a re-assembly video up for the MyTouch 4G. However, this guide will show all steps, just reversed. The LCD screen will go in, just like it came out.

Hi great video by the way. When attempting to release the jaw clip as in 4:57 the jaw clip broke. Now the screen won't light up but the buttons do. I think that it is because there is a connection problem between the lcd screen and the motherboard from this broken jaw clip. its there a way to attach a new jaw clip or would I have to purchase a new motherboard? Thanks.
thomthomchia 1 week ago
@thomthomchia No way to replace the jaw clamp, you will need to replace the full motherboard to replace this clip.
RepairsUniverse 6 days ago
So..I'm up to 4:52 on the video and the top part of the motherboard feels like its glued to the sliver part of the phone..im worried that if i try to remove i may rip it...I see two small dots on top too (im not too sure if these are bolts) should i just continue to open it with the pry tool??
drthompson13 1 week ago
@drthompson13 Double check that all screws are removed. If there are still a few screws holding the motherboard flex in place, remove those first. There will be some adhesive, but it should be fairly easy to lift.

i put everything back together and powered it on and the screen wont come on, its just black but the buttons and stuff light up
Slim5845 1 week ago
@Slim5845 Sounds like a LCD connection issue. I would double check the connection from the LCD screen to the motherboard is fully in place.
RepairsUniverse 6 days ago
great vidoe!! but when putting the phone back together, do you need to get the adhesive strips??
And when getting a new full housing do you just follow these same directions or do you actually have to do more?
and a video putting back the phone together would be an awesome idea!! Thnx for the help!!

@GurutheG Adhesive is only for touch screens. Full housing will be same as this video.

Thanks!

@03soph Yes, this black blob is called LCD bleeding and is caused by a damaged LCD screen.

Are there any troubleshooting sites? We replaced my daughters digitizer this weekend. Initially when we turned it back on, we dot white lines, then we took it apart and verified connections, now we get nothing.
TheJkferguson 2 weeks ago
@TheJkferguson If the connection looks good then it sounds like either the LCD screen itself was damaged, or the LCD screen flex cable became ripped. I would suggest examining the LCD screen carefully to see if this is the case.

Today my phone was on red below 5% (its never got that low before) I charged it, it came on ran properly for about 5min then the screen started to freeze a little so took the battery out & let it charge for awhile I then tried to power it back on no response just a black screen but the orange light was on. I left it on charge for another 15min then the light changed to green. Still no response. Lately my buttons have been acting up don't know if that has anything to do with anything. pls help!!
kushkupkakes 3 weeks ago
@kushkupkakes I see. Could be a few things. If you plug it into a computer, is it recognized?
Any history to the device - such as water damage, previous repairs, or major drops?
RepairsUniverse 3 weeks ago
@RepairsUniverse Thanks for the quick response! When I plugged it into my computer it signals that its connected but my screen still isn't responsive. As far as damages none that I'm aware of.
kushkupkakes 3 weeks ago
@kushkupkakes No problem. Have you noticed the battery heat up more than normal?
Now, when you said the buttons are acting up, can you explain this? The physical buttons I am assuming, such as the power/volume/etc?
RepairsUniverse 3 weeks ago
@RepairsUniverse Yes when charging the battery get pretty darn hot. For about the past week or so my back button only responds when I push it really hard, almost causing my finger to hurt, because its kind of stuck down. Also when I go to lock my screen tapping the power button once, then releasing I noticed that sometimes it will not lock at all it just stays lit up till my screen times out.
kushkupkakes 3 weeks ago
@kushkupkakes Hmm.. Was hoping that wasn't the case. The overheating is not a good sign and normally means its more of a motherboard issue. As for the power button, that is part of the motherboard flex cable. Seems like they all are related. If the phone is under warranty, I would suggest taking it back in and letting them deal with it. Overheating is a fairly common issue with faulty HTC motherboards and parts.
RepairsUniverse 3 weeks ago
@RepairsUniverse Okay thanks so much for your help.
kushkupkakes 3 weeks ago
@kushkupkakes No problem at all. Let us know if they won't swap it out. There are a few fairly cheap replacement parts that may resolve the issue, but no way to guarantee it will.

TheLuceroStudioz 4 weeks ago
@TheLuceroStudioz Could have caused the flex cable to rip a bit, or possibly the connection came a bit loose. Sadly, you will need to follow this video fully to gain access to the touch screen connection.
RepairsUniverse 3 weeks ago
@RepairsUniverse i took a closer look and the little cable is ripped , do i just need to replace the glass screen>?

@TheLuceroStudioz Correct, you will need to replace the glass touch screen digitizer. These are available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.

I've dropped mine a lot since I've had it, and now the wifi turns on and off whenever I turn it on, and I can't do anything about it. Do you why this is happening and how I can fix it?
SilverShadic360 1 month ago
@SilverShadic360 Could be a few different things. The best thing would be take it to a local repair shop who can diagnose the issue. However there are a few quick things you can check. You can follow this video for about 4:00 minutes and check all the motherboard connection, especially around the white antenna cable.

i dropped my phone and it still turns on and works but its all black and i cant see anything, is their anything i can do to fix it or is it no hope at all for the phone?
l0St03807 1 month ago
@l0St03807 Normally this can just be a loose connection for the LCD screen, or the LCD screen has become damaged. If it still powers on, vibrates, etc, then it is very likely just a display issue. I would check the connection and if it appears fine, replace the LCD screen and that should resolve the issue.
RepairsUniverse 1 month ago

SuperAntman12 1 month ago
@SuperAntman12 Normally this is just caused by an alignment issue with the keypad, or possibly a connection issue on the keypad flex cable, under the buttons themselves. I would suggest checking the cable at 3:52 to be sure it is fully secure and no damage has occurred to that flex cable.

I need help I dropped my mytough 4g in water its been about a week now when I put the battery in it and I have 2 batteries to test it... well when I press the power button the screen lights up but when I let the button go it turns off it does not boot what could be wrong should I take it apart and clean it or does it sound like i need to replace something.... thank you for your help...
wgibanez 1 month ago
@wgibanez Very tough to diagnose water damage from afar, however I can give some basic diagnosing tips. Plug the device into a computer and see if it is recognized - If it is, then likely the motherboard is fine and it could be a battery issue, LCD screen issue, or charging issue. If it is not recognized then it is likely some motherboard damage has occurred.

@RepairsUniverse so I took apart my mytouch just like the video except the screen I think the motherboard is the issue because aside from the computer not recognizing it it also has cloudy areas on the bottom and top of mother board strip. now if I replace the motherboard what else would I need to do to it to boot and work properly given thats the only issue...
wgibanez 1 month ago
@wgibanez Would depend on the on the replacement motherboard. Technically there should be nothing you would need to do, just boot it up and possibly preform a hard reset on the device. We focus mostly on hardware, the software side is not our area of expertise, however we have swapped many motherboards without an issue.

its easy to disassemble the home button assembly. there are 2 clips thats holding it in place. just gently pry it and careful not to break it. the home button should be properly seated. there are also 2 small clits where in the home button assembly. i think you should slide the home button UNDER those clits. not too sure though .. if that dont work. try to seat the home button on TOP of those clits. good luck!

Thanks again RepairUniverse for the reply. Then I also disassemble the home button assembly and made sure that it was properly seated on the housing. sorry, no video

hello. I just replaced my LCD and digitizer using your video. This video is great! Anyway, I thought everything went well. it looks like. hehe.. but when i turn it on, I noticed that its running on safemode. . and the home and menu button is stuck. i can't press it down. if I losen the bottom screws. it works, but if put the outer cover again.. same thing. checked everything and they look ok. now it only boots on the boot screen. only way to turn it off is to take the battery off. any tips? thx
coolpals 2 months ago
@coolpals Glad to hear the repair went smooth! As for the safe boot, this is caused when the buttons are pressed in. Normally this is caused by over-tightened screws on the housing, or bad alignment. The best way to fix this is to remove the housing and just attempt it again with a bit less tension around the power and menu buttons.
RepairsUniverse 2 months ago
@coolpals i am having this same exact problem... been using a (crappy)replacement for over a month now and i have tried putting my phone back together now about 16 times and even had a few other people try. after i replaced my screen, my phone turns on and everything but now the only problem is that my screen is like black/white and when it loads to my homescreen...its like sooo black and dark i can barely even see anything..please help!
AznRere 2 months ago
@AznRere Which screen was replaced - the glass touch screen or the LCD screen? Likely just a connection issue from the LCD screen's flex cable to the motherboard. I would double check this connection.
RepairsUniverse 2 months ago
When I received my touch screen digitizer, there is clear film on both sides. Obviously the front side is to protect the screen from scratching. whatabout the back side? Do I remove it before I install the screen? Also, you really should update the video with the "4 screw" thing regarding the motherboard removal, it would make this the BEST videoout there. THanks
42youtub 3 months ago
@42youtub The front is a screen protector, as is the rear. The back protector will need to be removed. The purpose of this is to protect the circuitry of the digitizer and prevent scratches. Thank you for your advice. This video is in fact on our list of videos that need updating.
Good luck and let us know if you have any further questions.

@drjazz88 Ah, very good. Sometimes it is just those simple things that can make a repair frustrating. Good work figuring it out. No problem at all!
RepairsUniverse 3 months ago
My menu and back buttons are stuck because the motherboard is pressing too hard from behind. The buttons work until I push the bottom of the motherboard into it's plastic clip there for holding it down. And thats when the buttons get mashed. What is going on here?
drjazz88 3 months ago
@drjazz88 Hmm. does seem a bit odd. I assume the motherboard is clipped into the housing correctly? Also the buttons and button flex is properly seated? Sounds like something is not aligned properly, but difficult to say what exactly. I would check the motherboard to see what is physically pressing the back of the buttons.

Jamesdash 3 months ago
@Jamesdash No problem at all! That alignment is very stubborn sometimes... You will need to disassemble again to the point where you can adjust the bottom flex, then check periodically during assembly to be sure the buttons are still aligned. Sometimes housing can jar them out of alignment or even physically stop them from pressing down. Will just take a small bit of trial and error, no real secret to the process sadly. Good luck!
RepairsUniverse 3 months ago
So my main issue is those buttons being pressed down and it being stuck in safe mode. Also someone told me that the lcd is seated in a metal housing, and by me taking it out it probably came out separately. He told me he could try to re seat the lcd.but there is a likely chance that he would crack the lcd.
190Bmxer190 3 months ago
@190Bmxer190 This is normally caused by not enough "lift" (adhesive) from the touch screen and LCD screen. Also it is possible that the side buttons are being pressed in, many times this is caused by over tightened screw housing. I would not be too concerned about damaging the LCD screen. Move it around to the correct position, add some adhesive and re assemble. That should resolve the issues.
RepairsUniverse 3 months ago
i reassembled my phone and everything is fine except my phone wont go pass the re boot screen ! how do i gett it pass this and where can i buy the adhesive to lay the screens back down?
TYPOOH9210 3 months ago
@TYPOOH9210 Could be a few reasons it will not fully boot. Check to be sure none of the side buttons are being pressed in, making the phone attempt to boot in safe mode, or similar. Sometimes this can be caused by over tightening the housing screws. Also may be worth checking the motherboard and flex cable for loose or bad connections. Adhesive can be found at RepairsUniverse (dot) com. We have used this adhesive for many years with great results.
RepairsUniverse 3 months ago
What's the trick to getting that short ribbon cable back in? (the one at 5:00 in the video). Thank you for the help.
j5match 4 months ago
@j5match This is the LCD flex cable and is very important to get a full connection. It is a tight fit, however here are a few things that may help: be sure the flex cable is fully through the housing without any slack. Make sure the jaw clip is fully opened and move the motherboard and MB flex all the way next to the cable, nearly overlapping the screen assembly. Gently get the flex cable aligned with the connection and slowly push the cable into the slot. You can then close the connector.
RepairsUniverse 4 months ago
I am a do-it-yourself type. I have repaired a lot of things on my on. I replaced the screen on my blackberry awhile back. I can tell you I wish I had never attempted this. An inexpensive do-it-yourself repair has now turned into sending this somewhere at more expense than it wouldve been had I just done that in the first place. I will now have to pay for a new motherboard due to the extremely delicate parts that I have broken trying to re-assemble this phone. I would not advise this method.
j5match 4 months ago
I tried this method last night. I now have a blob where it looks like the screen is touching the LCD screen and the volume flex cable broke off in my fingertips without even pulling on it. The phone seems to be on but nothing on screen at all. I think the main cable (the very short one thats hard to put back in) isnt in right. Do you sell replacement audio flex cables?
j5match 4 months ago
@j5match Using the correct thickness of adhesive will give the touch screen enough lift from the LCD screen. It may be necessary to add more. The motherboard flex cable controls everything from the power button, headphone jack, volume buttons camera, and more. These are available at RepairsUniverse (dot) com.
RepairsUniverse 4 months ago
@RepairsUniverse Thank you.. Its the very skinny volume one that broke off, the rest are back in and feel normal after reassembly. Is the phone usable with the volume one broken? like using the controls in the phone's software?
Also, there was a small clear plastic piece that fell out during disassembly and I dont know where it goes. Help please. :)
j5match 4 months ago
@RepairsUniverse Can you tell if its right before reassembling the whole phone? It had black adhesive originally.
j5match 4 months ago
@j5match Yes, you can use software to avoid using the physical buttons. HTC has been using this volume button system for a while and it is very fragile and poor design. But if you ever feel the need to replace it, it is the full motherboard flex cable that will need to be replaced.
As for the clear plastic piece, it is likely just a brace for the housing. Reassembling without it will not disrupt the functionality in this case. It may be worth adding more adhesive to give the digitizer more lift

SnObUnNiE04 4 months ago
@SnObUnNiE04 Sounds like an issue with the keypad button flex cable. Either the connection is loose, damaged, being pressed in, etc. My focus would be on this flex cable. I am unsure, but it is possible the safe boot screen is being caused because these buttons are registering as already being pressed in. Start there and let us know if you come up with anything. Good luck!

shahwill1 5 months ago
@shahwill1 I would suggest removing the power button and then attempting to turn it on without the button in place. That will narrow down the exact cause. We have had many issues with the power button flex cable on the MyTouch 4G. Check for damage around the motherboard flex cable, it seems to become weak and rip very easily around the power button.
RepairsUniverse 5 months ago
@RepairsUniverse By removing the power button, do you mean taking out the flex cable or the POWER button on the back frame?? I have tried it without the back frame coz the battery still goes in, but it still doesn't work. Also, T-Mobile sent me a replacement phone but they're going to inspect for 'physical damage'. My screen is installed correctly and there is no physical damage, do you think they will charge me the $80 for a new one? Also, i have it modded so will that be a problem???
shahwill1 5 months ago
@shahwill1 Removing the physical power button. Likely an issue with the motherboard flex cable if that is the case. You should not have an issue returning the phone, however you would need to check with your provider to see the exact qualifications. We have had customers who have destroyed their phones and still got replacements. Others have a screw missing and are charged. Seems to vary quite a bit.

biancabiancadonka 5 months ago
@biancabiancadonka If a flex cable is damaged there is no way of repairing it. Replacing the flex cable would be the best option. I am assuming the power cord flex cable is for the power button. The motherboard flex cable at RepairsUniverse (dot) com will replace this power button flex cable.
RepairsUniverse 5 months ago
So I did all of the steps just like shown once I put my phone back together it gave me a system reboot factory setting screen and now it wont turn on. Help?
cgtrademark 5 months ago
@cgtrademark This is pretty common on the MyTouch 4G. What is happening is the volume button is being forced in, either on the button itself or on the inside volume button flex cable. This can happen by tightening the housing too tight or by the volume button flex being pressed. See if you can press the volume buttons. If they click, you will likely need to disassemble. If is stiff, loosen the housing screws a tad.
RepairsUniverse 5 months ago
So how do you get the digitizer to stick again? Not sure if there is enough glue on there to re-heat and press it down...
TheRealTonemeister69 5 months ago

dboiwil8503 5 months ago
@dboiwil8503 Very interesting, we will keep note of this for future reference.. We have had similar issues with customers whose housing is slightly pressing the volume button. We did not make the connection that the screws could also apply a similar presssure. Thank you very much.

Follow this precisely and reassembled (BTW it sucks that you don't show putting back together even if it is the same process in reverse.) after I reassembled the genius button and the button right next to it no longer push down and when I turn the phone on I get a weird boot screen and the phone does nothing.
Corben2781 6 months ago
@Corben2781 This is specifically a disassembly guide, following the guide in reverse will show the exact same steps as an assembly guide. There are a few possible reasons the buttons are not functioning; the keypad flex cable may not be lined up properly or the cable may not be fully connected (or possibly even damaged). Be sure that the buttons are set in the appropriate place for contacts from the buttons to fully connect.
RepairsUniverse 6 months ago
@RepairsUniverse Ok I figured out my issue, the button on the bottom of the phone during reassembly get stuck on. those booting the phone into a weird service mode. Is there a way to take this buttons apart?
Corben2781 6 months ago
@Corben2781 Interesting. Is it the physical button that is pressing against the flex cable or just the flex cable reading that it is being pressed? The keypad buttons have 2 sections, the physical outer buttons and underneath, the keypad flex cable. I would separate them and poke around a bit. If that does not work, replacing the flex cable should resolve the issue. Check out RepairsUniverse (dot) com for this part.
RepairsUniverse 6 months ago

samdetroit89 6 months ago

VDUB113 6 months ago
@VDUB113 Does it not turn on, or just not display? The digitizer should not effect the display in any way. A few places to start would be checking the LCD screens connection and flex cable.

I did this repair and reassemble. I am the same issue as the individual earlier comment the 4 buttoms are stock together. another issue that arised is that the phone does not gets signal from Sim card. When I search for networks, it does detect ATT not tmobile. I check to see if I had misconnected any other antena wires but everything seems to be ok. after trying many times the signal came on for approx 15 seconds and the samething. Any suggestions on this please. oscarquintanilla27@gmail.com
obonilla1234 6 months ago
@obonilla1234 That seems very odd about the signal. Unsure why it would only pick up ATT... I would just retrace your steps a bit and make sure all the connections are good and no damage to the flex cables have been made, especially around the antennas and sim card tray. As for the buttons, the flex cable and buttons on top can usually be adjusted to get the correct response from each button.

When putting the phone back together, will I need more adhesive?
MriiMbLacK 7 months ago
@MriiMbLacK You will need adhesive for the digitizer replacement, but it is suggested for nearly any internal repair. Some adhesive that has been in the phone for some time does not have the "stick" that is desired to hold parts together.

this video is really helpful ! but before i fix it am kind of worried in how am i going to put it back together.. is there any video for this?
40mix 7 months ago
@40mix Currently we do not have an assembly video. It is simply reversing the steps of the disassembly. If you follow it closely, there should be no issue assembling your MyTouch 4G again.
RepairsUniverse 7 months ago
do you have a video of how put it all back together
Kneec34 7 months ago
@Kneec34 Not currently, assembling the MyTouch 4G is simply reversing this disassembly video.

JoeG444 7 months ago
@JoeG444 Did you use adhesive to attach the screen?
RepairsUniverse 7 months ago
@RepairsUniverse Yeah I did should I use more? I noticed when I get the motherboard into the clips, that's when the problem arrives and the buttons stop clicking =/
JoeG444 7 months ago
@JoeG444 I would suggest disassembling to that point and see what is causing the buttons to sink down. I am unsure if purely adding more adhesive will resolve the issue. You will need to figure out the actual cause and then you can figure out how to resolve.
RepairsUniverse 7 months ago
@RepairsUniverse Yeah, its like as soon as I put any pressure on the area where those 4 bottom keys are(Pushing the motherboard in the bottom clip) Or Screwing the two silver screws in, is when i hear a click, which is when the buttons get pressed from the back therefore making it unable to press them the way they were supposed to be pressed.
JoeG444 7 months ago
@JoeG444 Hmm, that sounds like it needs a bit of pushing upwards. I would double check the video and see if there is either a piece you are missing or if you are putting it in in a different order, etc. I personally have never heard of this issue from others.
RepairsUniverse 7 months ago
@RepairsUniverse Possibly, I think I'm going to pry off the black part that seats the buttons (5:17 right beneath the golden cable) and see if something may be stuck in it. Appreciate the quick responses! If you think its a bad idea let me know cause I'm not too sure if that was supposed to be removable or not. =]
JoeG444 7 months ago
@JoeG444 You should have no issue doing that, Usually these are held in with adhesive. I wouldn't think that would be causing the full issue, but difficult to tell as I do not have it sitting in front of me. Sounds like you are getting close to diagnosing the issue, keep searching (carefully), your bound to find the cause. Good luck!

hi, i did everything but now when i turn on the phone i dont see anything on the screen help...
sonpreetdoal 7 months ago
@sonpreetdoal Sounds like a connection issue. Check the LCD screen flex cable. Make sure it is fully in place into the connector. Also check for damage like rips.
RepairsUniverse 7 months ago
@RepairsUniverse is that the flex cable at 4:55 that ur talking bout.
sonpreetdoal 7 months ago
@sonpreetdoal Correct. That is where the LCD flex connects to the motherboard.
