well I suppose we all have to be like you Maegan..... NOT. What you DON"T know about the amish is amazing and yet you purport yourself as an expert? How many times in this did you say, "In my opinion." Well there is probably one person who cares about your opinion.
Hi, my father lives in Ontario, Canada in an Amish comunity. I have met a few of the Amish men and they are very helpful to my Mom and Dad, but I DO agree with you on the fact that they have a very strong body odor, especially the women. They come to my Dads everyday to drink coffee, watch TV, buy cigarettes from him, and get driven to town in his van. I see so many different rules, the women can do nothing. The men can do whatever they want, as long as the "elders' don't catch them.
You just don't understand them. Everyone has a right to be here in America. America is very diverse. You live in a unique place and should be thankful for the experience. I know its hard to put yourself in the shoes of another person but think of how they feel. They grew up all their life not using electricity or driving cars. They are trying to preserve their way of life and that is very hard to do. Besides, you don't have to live in this place forever. Good Luck.
Maegan, Hey I totally understand your frustration. Thats why I am not amish anymore. I couldn't stand all the bullshit that went with that lifestyle. I am much happier now that I am can continue my education and become civilized. Its 2008 and they better wake up and realize that. Otherwise, they will force all of their kids to leave home and they will blame it on everybody else. They are one stubborn bunch.
because many of the families are dirt... and many of my amish friends know so as well.... infact half of them up and left... why?? because all the other fucktards wanted to put all their money that had into one pot and have the "leader" only give the others allowences... nice ah? if your such an amish lover then go live with em, if you are amish.. then your going to burn in hell for having a computer
why complain how old are u if u are so worried about the roads worry about the air pollution that we are causing. first of all u shouldnt talk bad about them look at u u seem to have time to complain get a life!!!!!!!
i used to live by amish people too...i totally agree with you. i don't understand them. i think they're depriving their children of too much and if they wanna live that way, they shouldn't get in the way of people in the modern world.
The Amish are of Mennonite faith, which is based off of writings from Menno Simons. The faith group has attempted to preserve the elements of late 17th century European rural culture. They try to avoid many of the features of modern society, by developing practices and behaviors which isolate themselves from American culture. I am not sure about the overall details of their current lives, but maybe (if they are driving cars and using cell phones) they are a dying ideology.
**Bonus**I get annoyed when I see tractors/construction vehicles on the road. I could only imagine my reaction to a horse drawn carriage that refused to pull to the side of the road when I came up on them. My condolences to you for enduring the back water region you currently live in.
you live around the amish and you see what they really do.... fuck you you dont know shit about it unless you see it yourself i could have said much worse being that i have friends that are amish and the things they tell me..
(Breaking this up into two) "If you're offended, feel free to comment back" and you tell me "fuck you" instead of making any type of case for what you're saying? So why don't you say what you're friends tell you? I don't mean to be argumentative, but your complaints in the video are that they drive too slow and have hypocritical beliefs, and the rest is speculation.
Btw, being born in the US makes you a citizen, birth certificate or no. Whether that's a good thing, I don't know. I knew an amish family when I grew up, they were decent people. I can't defend the whole church (esp. because I am not religious), and I don't know what it's like to live in a big community with them. I've read critical things about them (The Gentle People by Nadia Labi). You seem to enjoy blaming them for things like traffic, and potholes (?) and came off as a bigot to me. Sorry.

Amish people DO have birth certificates and s.s. numbers. Where on earth did you hear such non-sense that they didn't?

most around here do not, i know this because im friends with many of the younger ones
maegan1987 3 years ago
Well if they're your 'friends' why do you talk about them or their families as though they were dirt?

You are an unbelievable bigot. You probably don't think you are, either, which is the funny part. Every sentence you say is worse than the last...

Didn't the Amish kill Jesus too? I think this needed to be said and I'm glad somebody had the guts to do it.
Just out of curiosity what's the best Amish joke anybody has heard?
