Unlike so many others, I do not find this performance by Callas to be inferior to her earlier recordings. If anything, I find her singing more nuanced and delicate in this recording. And Ludwig is fantastic.
A Perfect blend of power and delicacy. This music blows my mind.
Splendide, absolutely amazing, a lovely talented soprano and mezzo-soprano. Bellini is very proud of them. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy this wonderful duet.
I enjoy Ludwig's rendition in part because she has the finesse well honed from experience with German lieder, in which there's no orchestra to smudge corners. Callas, of course, is a revelation: Ludwig's first version is wonderfully sung, but Callas take it to an altogether different dimension. Thanks for the upload!
Christa is vocally speaking the best Adalgisa in the recorded history of the role. If Stignani ever had an easy C6 then perhaps, and in her prime! (not in the Callas recordings where she is far past her prime) she would have surpassed Christa. Well, she didnt...
I love Ludwig on this.. her vibrato is so even and not fluttery.. like many other mezzos and sopranos when they put their voices under pressure, it flutters. CAllas is still in decent form in 1960( vibrato is a little wide on the high notes)

they are both so musical and singing so well, this is difficult not to really like.

They removed the Suterland horne duet , which to mi my mind is a more mature
and devine singing of this duet.

Of course Callas is the best Norma ever ... ! but I prefer Giulietta Simionato or Ebe stignani over Christa Ludwig as Adalgisa.
