Baja parties are usually a little heavy on the sausage. A Pre or post fountain Baja is still a Baja and will never be confused with a fountain. Take a Baja in seven footers and I promise you will damage it (cracked hull, cracked cabin door due to hull flex). Anyone who thinks differently probably owns a Baja and is kidding themselves. There was a huge price difference when new for a reason. Baja is a decent boat, but is more flash than function IMO. Resale value reflects that.

I owned a 26 Outlaw.. Never had any problems with it except for the engine... at 10 hours it started leaking oil, never really got it fixed. Mercury had to send me a new engine to put in the boat.
Furthermore if you are trying to make a name for yourself building engines I wouldnt resort to mudslinging on youtube. Why not try and take some of your so called nice retirement and build a shop instead of a website. If you know so much about boats you would also know that horsepower isnt everything. Outdrive setup, prop and hull design are key in going fast. You can put all the horsepower you want in it but if the hull isnt right it will just nose over.
I have to agree with cdnuge. I did some research and watched one of your videos of you building an engine and what the friggin hell man. First you are smacking the hell out of the piston and then you oil the bearing with an old rusty oil can while dragging the metal nozzle across the bearing and then you are rubbing your bare finger aross the bearing. When you get tired of those POS 496 motors and want to "step-up"...do a GOOGLE search and look for MotorsbyShooter. Put a pair of my motors in that Baja and then it will run. BTW...those 496 motors have cast internal parts...crank, rods and pistons and NOT forged internal parts like my motors...be careful how you run them so that they dont blow up.
I cruise at 3000 rpm, just strolling along at 42 mph, with WOT at 5900 rpm, 74 mph (once a week, never more than 60 seconds). If I could afford a Ferrari I wouldn't have bought a Baja. 496 HO's are reliable if you don't abuse them. When these things burn out at 800 hrs I'll upgrade to 525's (and maybe a Fountain), not stupid enough to try to squeeze more hp out of a cast block. Thanks for the insight though, POS is a very relative term.

The 496 is a good motor in the stock state that Mercruiser builds them, but if you want to add power to one...have money
