what if a transition will happen back to something like a gold standart, linking currencies to limited commodities? Valuable, useful and rare Elements could serve as the basis for currencies. I believe it will depend really on luck after the world markets collapse. I think you could make the argument that they are both initial cause and symptom. Michio Kaku has some seriously unrealistically high hopes for where the economy, the culture and the political system is headed on this planet. I speak particularly for the west since its where i live and grew up. The 21st century has started with wars and its looking like more conflicts are on the horizon. I think then human civilisation and the population of artificial minds will run alongside for a while, one accelerating the other.
The first artificial minds might go online within the next 10 years. If thats really true, then i will witness extraordinary changes in human culture.

What do you guys think about TrES-2B? It absorbs all but 1% of its sun's light. Maybe some civilization uses it as some form of battery or capacitor to power or store energy. As Dr. Kaku says, the hypothetical type II/type III civilizations would harness power from their sun or multiple suns.

I believe it will depend really on luck after the world markets collapse. That is, saying we don't go into some stupor and start blowing the planet up since our system is failing and we've got no idea what to do about it. After that point, it's all luck of whether or not the right people voice the right ideas at the right time in the right place. There's no way humanity will just give up trying to survive, but it's true that successfully prospering may be something we never obtain.

Wide scale nuclear war is unlikely at best, the soviet union didn't launch after it collapsed, proxy wars and terrorism are the norm.

I think you could make the argument that they are both initial cause and symptom. People grow into the world's current economic model, forced upon us by the people who stand to gain power through it, but then after a while, the groups who exploit the world of money for power sit on the top as what everybody sees to be the problem, and public focus is placed on them. The underlying cause of our flawed economy is hidden by these things, perhaps on purpose.

I do not entirely agree with the classifications: why not judge a civilization by the level of exploration that they are capable of? We have explored our own moon and with unmanned probes the rest of the solar system. It is possible for a species to explore space and the universe without necessarily controlling all of the power of stars.

Ok.. i disagree with everything. hear me out. If there was a 'TYPE 3' .. do you think it would allow 'TYPE 2's' and others to advance?.. Therefor there would only be 1 'type 3'.. secondly.. i dont really want to control the universe. i dont care if i can move a star to my living room. I would be happier if i could raise my family in a safe environment. altering universes and black holes should be the least of our worries.

Michio Kaku has some seriously unrealistically high hopes for where the economy, the culture and the political system is headed on this planet. I speak particularly for the west since its where i live and grew up. The 21st century has started with wars and its looking like more conflicts are on the horizon. The economy is ran by mad men capitalists who consider profits God and lets not even start to talk about how morally corrupt our politics are now.

I wish people understood the direct correlation between the size of government and the standard of living that people experience under those governments. It's not a coincidence that people living in America, with its republic, experience the highest standard of living in the world. He did not. He spoke of economy and "huge planetary trading blocks". So in that sense it would be more like two or three "supercountries" with two or three governments respectively rather than one world government. EU = European Union, NAFTA = North American Free Trade Agreement. It sounds good, although I would have nothing against a one world government. But we have to take one thing at a time I guess.
