i picked up a 2005 sv650s for $1200!! it was turn key and go home i'd like to see somebody else TOP THAT
Wow, 17.000rpm! Thats a screamer! Lol. Very nice video, except for the monkey on his vfr400 nc30??? getting in the way! Well done the guy riding the sv,
I think everyone is confused. The title of the video is not "worlds best rider." Stop hating. If you don't like it just watch something else. The SV is a good and really reliable bike. Just have fun riding and watching instead of comparing dicks... I mean bikes.
You can tell that neither rider is experienced. There is no need to hold the rpms so high when one isn't even going that fast. I mean seriously, an american mustang gt could go around the track just as fast as these two clowns!
For all the sv haters...When it comes to who's faster in the corners; the number one priority is not the engine as much as ground clearance and the rider. That v-twin is also quicker to respond to switch backs and s curves with the weight centered like it is. I've run away from full out racing r1's and gsxr1000s on a street legal (basically stock) sv650s in North Carolina mountains.
P.S. If I get stuck behind another god damn hayabusa, I'm gunna flip...
@Lumidandk any well set up SV with a decent rider will hang with an r6 there fast in different places sv's will hammer out of corners faster and as short as the straight is on that track it wont really matter that the r6 can run way faster top end its just enough to let him catchup then as soon as its into the corners again the sv will start making time...assuming there equally matched riders
This was fun to watch, but Im not into the beginner 600cc class. Im into the bigboy bikes like 1000cc on up. Yeah, because I can handle the horsepower....Im not an american beginner.
@Georgenfla Typical American beginners start on 1200+ cc bikes.. We call them Harley riders and they're more dangerous than semis with badly worn tires.
I have a sv650s and i am new to riding- I've been riding about 8 months now, and have gotten to where I'm comfortable in making some good turns. Can anybody give me some good advice on the Do's and Don'ts in making safe turns?
I can't believe the morons responding who couldn't tell he was purpose hanging back to film the SV650. That R6 is fuckin serious business on that front straightaway, holy smokes. Props to the guy on the EX500 though lol. He's got some skill.
i LOVE corners on my sv650. twisties are so fun on it. good power to play with and not the worry of hitting a bump and over rockin the throttle and gettin tossed off like i think i might do with a 1000. motorcycles are great!
@Lumidandk you dont drive a bike your ride it, and yes if you have matched riders the 600 will take the 650, but having ridin both, im glad i own a 650.. much more fun
@Lumidandk the sv650 is actually one of the most common track bikes because their lethal as fuck and their cheap to buy and cheap to fix. A decent sv will give a decent R6 a run for its money. hard to compete with an inline four on the straights tho. then again tell that to ducati
Thanks for posting this video, this actually really helps me a lot. I have an 05 SV650 with a Yoshi slip on pipe. Yup, it is pretty much a basic stock bike. I have been wanting to learn how to handle corners better, watching a lot of the AMA races, and havent been able to figure it all out. This video really helps a lot, great point of view. thanks guys. :)
Looks like you need to pull your head down in the corners, your body is all twisted cause your trying to stay on top of the bike. Check out the guy at 3:30 for proper posture (yellow bike). I'll bet your lap times go up if you work on your cornering posture. Anyways, looks like fun. Keep it up.
Not much. I race it in a production class, so mods were pretty limited. Just had Racetech springs & emulators in the forks, an Ohlins rear shock, EBC rotors & pads, an SS brake line, Woodcraft rearsets and bar risers and Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa Pro tires. It served me well for 3 seasons, I had some very good finishes over the years but I've since moved on to an SV650 which I've also been pretty successful on.
I have an '06 Sv650 streetfighter that has been modified/used at track days by the previous owner. Every time I tell someone I have an SV they either say, can you keep up with everyone else or oh...those things are dangerous on the track? What's the deal?
The deal is, the SV650 has less HP than all the race replicas... So it can't keep up with everyone else on the straights... but with a competent rider it's a VERY capable bike in the twisties.
@Belleija They had budget suspension on them as standard and compared to the IL4's there not the quickest things about so I'm guessing that's where it comes from. They are nice bikes though
Best way to ride through a corner is to have you body position set up on the bike while it is straight up. This keeps you from upsetting the suspension when youre leaned over.
i have and sv too same model and i would like to know if the rider puts his feet flat on the pegs cuz when i did that and took a hard bend my foot would clip the ground just wondering if he takes his bends like that or if he has rear sets
Wanna know where the sv would shine on this track. From 2:30-2:37. Because the R6 really doesnt take off till 10000 rpm so most turns on this track the sv's tourque can really give it an advantage.
SV Six Five Zero Owner...You guys need to take yours on the roads in cali. We got twists, hills, tight corners and straight aways. And that's just on my ride to school.
sv650 is a much funner bike, has a better powerband vs the 4cylinder r6. the two cylinder is going to be throatier and the power is going to come out a bit earlier
@verbold1979 uhh, yes ive ridden a sv650 before.. and right now i own a gsxr 750... I can gurantee you that the sv650 will beat the gsxr off the line and for the first 10-20 feet or so.....
yes the sv650 lacks in top end power, but thats why its a twin cylinder in the vee formation... now I have a question for you, have YOU ever ridden a sv650? ever ridden at all??? or are you just another internet genious who rides his busa to harvard every day??
no m8 i fink u on drugs ma dad run a race team n we using the 1089 witch leaves most of the gixers standing on straights and through corners i'll upload a vid jus 2 prove 2 u dat day r beta
That track sucks...a wall on the outside of a turn? Trees on the outside of turns?
Good times. Here I was thinking a track was supposed to make for a safer environment in case of a crash. May as well just drag knee on a mountain pass.
Well the R6 is 600 right? it has more hp then the sv650 meaning if they were drag racing that R6 would start to pull away in 4th or so but sence the sv650 has more torque it gets him in acceleration sence theres alot of turn the R6 wont catch him easly.
The SV is the way to go for loudon, I4's are almost useless on this track, there isnt much for straights there. My dad races an EX500 and works for the penguin school up there and consistently does in the 1:19's, just goes to show you dont need a fast bike, just have to know how to ride. One of the owners of the school does 1:16's on a stock EX500!!! The SV is perfect for these type of tracks!
im coming off K2 and k6 gixxers to a SV650. im LOVING it. any monkey can twist a grip in a straight. learn how to ride a bike for what its built for!!
Very nice vid. That one rider who kept passing the R6 was pissing me off. I ride track days and it looks like the intermediate group. The R6 got stuffed once and the other rider (green/white leathers kept passing on the entrances. Yea, he waved once but that's not the point. TRACK DAY....Not a race. No need for passing in turns like that! Riding like that is for the higher groups where it can be expected but done safely.
That was me.... I knew the guy on the R6 and he knows me... we're both advanced riders (I'm an expert racer/instructor, though I wasn't instructing that day) and he had no problem with the close passing... He was also kept passing me on the straights & holding me up in the corners... Like you said, it's a track day not a race, so be considerate and don't pass faster riders on lower HP bikes if you're going to hold them up in the corners.
Man... some of these responses just goes to show the lack of intelligence in some riders.
If you want to go FASTER, take it to the track! Look into it, find a trackday near you, wear the gear and learn to really RIDE. You will not regret it!
buddy, ducati's aint got nothing on gixers. and i dont get this video.. is this like a friendly get together race day or what (like beer league hockey)? i hear people saying they want to hit the track. how does it work, you just show up and race for fun? how much is it? and where is it?

Me and my friends go to Shannonville Motorsport Park or Mosport Raceway. Search 'trackdays +motorclcle +ontario' Several bike shops put the td's on. Average about $175.00. The track will give you a completely different outlook on speed versus cornering. peace
ducati doesnt have anything on gixers? are you on drugs? comparing a ducati and a suzuki gsrx is like comparing ferrari and toyota. ducati's pwn gsxr's. you obviously dont ride. haha.
comparison tests are between 848s and gixxer 600, even gixxer 600 post faster lap times than 848 cuz they're twins
ducati in motogp are competitive, ducati twin bikes on the track for their price and respective cc classes? hardly ducati street bikes are mostly bling now, only their suspension is top rated with their ohlins
put ohlins on a japanese bike and it'll kill anything
SMs are better for really tight corners, that is why all SM races mostly happen on go kart tracks....when it comes to twisties it's all rider not bike, i've seen drz 400sm pass liter bikes in the canyons
u r the sv rider righ? ur friend is ridn the r6, im relaly considering an sv real soon.. and plan to hit the track as much as i can. would it b good?? cuz it seems awesome on the infield just lacks lil top end speed
Woooooeeeee! My pulse quickened watching that. Amazing what you do w/ that stock SV motor. Pretty cool tutuorial for anyone wanting to learn Loudon, lines, turn-in points, etc.
Was that an Advanced group? Passing seemed close but video accentuates that.

Gotta love the SV haters. That looks like Loudon up in NH. That track is very technical and small bikes can school bigger bikes.
Looks like the rider on the R6 is faster than the guy on the SV and he's holding back so he can record him.
Anyone that has been to Loudon knows how technical and hard that track is.
I'm made Ducatis 1098 and CBR1k look like scooters at that track. But again, it's about the rider.
On the flip side, some ladies have schooled me on their ninjas 500 or smaller monster

Lol, Ducati has built the most powerful twin there ever was in a street bike (1198).
And how come Ducati just keeps winning the World Superbikes championship over and over again.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but most Ducati's are heavier than a Japanese liter class bike. Usually by at least 35-40 lbs.

HAHA, you got passed by a super moto bike on an R6. I'm not a racer, so I shouldn't criticize... But I think 120 vs. 50 hp should be no contest.
Kornball426 4 years ago
You must be thinking of drag racing. It doesn't work that way on a tight road course.

SV650 = supermoto? I don't think so! The R6 will beat the SV650 in the straights, but the biggest factor in the tight corners is rider ability.

weight. My dad has passed jap 1000's on a Ducati 998. All through a higher conerspeed.

unfortunately, rednecks still exist. :)

SMs are better for really tight corners, that is why all SM races mostly happen on go kart tracks....when it comes to twisties it's all rider not bike, i've seen drz 400sm pass liter bikes in the canyons

I ran an SV there for the '02 season. It's the most fun you can have with your clothes on. My last time on a track was '68.

Umm, interesting.... was the guy on the R6 trying to pass or what ????
Going to show it's not what you got, top hooning there SV bloke.
Bladeloon 5 years ago
The R6 could pass on the straights anytime if he opened the throttle all the way. He was filming me.

You just can't do all that fun stuff on my current bike, 2001 Suzuki VZ800. However, next summer I hope to get a SV650S.
