Low penalties? $2,000 a year is not a low penalty. Mandatory health insurance is in no way a good thing, and if they manage to pass it, will never fly.

Well they lowered the penalty which will cause the costs of those who don't pay to be picked up by those who do...meaning the middle class will flip the bill for the poor again. Cant afford the health insurance premiums? Thinking of dropping your health insurance? Think again. Insurance will now be MANDATORY!! Insurance companies will still get to make their massive profits. There will be looong lines to get any treatment. The bottom line is if you are poor you will continue to suffer and die of preventable disease while the rich pay for their plastic noses and boobs.

Wrong. This is going to be a disaster for the private insurance market, not because the insurance companies are greedy, but because Congress is building a regulatory scheme that will make it impossible to make money selling private insurance. That will then require the government to step in, but it won't make most of the country happy, when they're forced into a gov't insurance program.

The public option, and the promise that "you can keep your current health insurance" is a fraud. All of the public option bills that have been presented so far have provisions that bring old insurance policies under the new rules as soon as any part of the policy is changed. (Which is standard practice and happens constantly.)
