    Michael

  • @mickygraham2005 good to hear that, enjoy:)

  • Hi,

I'd really love to buy a copy of this video. Can you let me know where to buy it please. I'm not sure what you mean by "the dvd's are included in the description of this video" . I often spent my summers with the 3 brothers as a child. Sadly only Jimmy is still alive.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  • @mickygraham2005 You are indeed fortunate to have been acquainted with them and visited such a beautiful place. John was a handsome man. He lived the kind of life I still struggle to achieve. I still have to make my living in-city while making a life in the mountains.

    My regards to Jimmy.

  • Hi,

    Thanks

  • Does anyone know the name of the tune played at the very start of the video, before it changes into "The geese in the bog"?

  • There was a episode in this series featuring the box accordion player Johnny o Leary - is this episode in the DVD? I have been trying (pardon the pun) hands on it for along time as my father is in the tuft cutting scene.

  • @nokomarie1963 Yes, you are right, this documentary film series is a valuable social document and would be very useful for your children to see. Wishing you all the best.

  • thanks dazoo77, i got a copy before christmas, it went down a treat for the father in law.

  • @shanecronogue The downturn is here.

  • Ireland isnt fucking like this anymore! Theres probably a big industrial estate just over that hill!

  • You are right, Ireland is not like this anymore. This film was made in the 1970's. Thankfully this landscape remains the same, there is only a big beautiful untouchable mountain behind this house.

I went "surfing" (first to your lovely Donegal surf film) for cool Ireland to take my mind of the 100 degree temperatures (with 98 percent humidity...) Take care, lovelies!

  • Get right back to Hawaii this minute:)

Good to hear from you, you've been really quiet recently. Hope the move wasn't too traumatic. You are a long way from the ocean now.

  • for those idiots who are obviously under the age (mental) of 12.... this is taken from a programme recorded in the 1960s or early 70s. Should you not be playing xbox and eating junk food anyway???

  • It is interesting to see just how many viewers of this work understand it as contemporary film footage:)

    Wishing you all the best.

  • So you have to have a mental age under 12 to play xbox and eat junk food, are you sure they are the idiots?

Most Irish people who don't have sky should know this program .

  • ha ha hya. Great doc, but listen to the sound effect at 1 min and 9, when they fade tinto the shot of water. It sounds like an explosion from and old NES game.... Epic. Nes and cheesy soundfx rulez

  • This is an ancient record.I live in Ireland for the last 10 years. With all that foreign investment boosted Ireland's economy, people got crazy greedy here, trying to sel lhouses not worth more than 90-100 grand for prices like 250-350 thousand!Greedy,Lazy,Racist,Arrogant and Ignorant bunch...

it puts to shame all city men that don't even know how to boil water!

    xx country life xx

  • What the hell are you talking about? "Don't know how to boil water"? That doesn't make any sense!

And all the "city men" may not get that delicious cake, but at least they'll get conversation, sex and all the other things that living on a run down house in the middle of nowhere can't provide.

    xx city life xx

  • eejit

  • Country ftw :) peace, quiet and everything you could ever need! + best food ^^

  • Better than going in for a night shift m8 lol

  • it means that they are useless in cooking and housekeeping skills because all they care about is to hide behind behind their desks and make more and more money. And country men can have much more meaningful conversations than city guys that get obsessive about football women and drinking. But if it is your thing then it's ok but don't diss my view on this because for others country life is best.

  • sorry but you make even less sense...all of those things you mention are a part of everyday life in the country...what ISN`T a part of everyday life is rampant crime, pollution, congestion, segregation, lack of wildlife, plants, a fresh clean breeze, etc. etc. I could go on all day....but I guess you prefer whores, barfights, fast food, and smog.

  • Mmm, did someone say whores, barfights AND fastfood! where do I sign up?

  • OMG That is the best post I've ever seen, fair play to ya!

  • Happy St Paddy's day all!

  • Happy St Patrick's Day to all!!

    Lovely video ...

    Thank you for posting!

  • Thanks very much, all the best to you:)

  • What a beautiful video. I really enjoyed it. The soundtrack was lovely too. Such beautiful countryside and such hard working people. Its a pity the brothers never got married, that's very sad. I presume all the women went to the cities to find work. Its a pity. Such a fine, hard-working men would have made an excellent husbands.

  • Thanks very much for your comments.

We were delighted to be able to show this for our film festival. It gives such a sensitive portrait of an Irish man. They are hard working people in Donegal.

    Wishing you all the best.

  • I want to live there. I want to live in that peaceful little cottage. What a beautiful video - thank you for that. Happy St Patricks Day! x

  • Thanks for you lovely comment, Happy St Patrick's Day to you:)

  • wow, i thought that this was a comedy to start off with

  • Now that's a good example of a "proper" documentary: allowing the subject time to develop and breath - not like the twitchy camera bollocks stuff we see on Youtube normally, made for/ by folks with the attention span of gnats...

  • You are right, this is a classic lesson in documentary film-making. We can all learn from this.

Thanks for your comments. All the best.
