  • Pointless

  • bad china badddddd you stop bothering Tibet!!! (and make better things OK?)

  • THUMBS UP For Tibet !

  • Its a joke get over it!!!!!!

  • @Kelski1998= I have. Timothy Hutton's still a horse's ass.

  • The importance of this add can be understand only by those who suffered under such regime....like those who suffered under Hitler....under Sadam....under......once you suffered you will understand the importance...Say thank you for your grandparents who made you FREE... Go and check out your grandparents struggle for your FREEDOM...then make some comment..

  • how did this get on the air....

  • That Jake is a moron!

  • WTF is wrong with those subtitles?

  • She is very not funny and also fat. And she is also fat and a prostitute. Her arms jiggle. And she has a prostate. Fatty.

  • @jekeeney you jealous of her prostate?

  • Commercial was funny af lol

  • what the fuck is the point in this video?

  • Does anyone think this girl is hot? I think she is bomb!

  • @chrismorrison99 If by bomb you mean it looks like a bomb went off? Than yes. I agree.

  • GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT:

    ...crin.org/docs/resources/treaties/crc.12/China_CFT2_NGO_Report.pdf

"It is unlikely, however, that all these sterilisations were voluntary (1994 TIN Survey; p19). While the law does not specifically demand abortions or the use of surgical controls, the effect of the law in practice, with its use of fines and other punishments, is that many women may feel forced to accept abortions and sterilisations." ...tibet.org/Activism/Rights/birthcontrol.html

  • so why doesn't anyone ever think about the genocidal caste system that was in place in tibet before chinese occupation?

  • @tradrudeboy the Dalai Lama had nothing to do with it. When he finally went into power, the Chinese invaded.

  • I'm tibetan

    We don't eat fish curry

    lmao

  • Hilarious

  • Imagine someone creating a commercial ...based on 9/11 incident...?

  • The only person who wins in the end is Groupon. I can't believe small business owners use Groupon. Just do the math...

  • Are you guys really think about tibet and the commercial or you are just looking at boobs..

  • There are no boundaries when it comes to humour but that was totally tasteless. Professional comedians know when not to cross the line. I guess Groupon got their publicity though.

  • People's negativity towards China's Tibetan policy lasts about as it takes to get to Wal*Mart.

But lets not be pretend that Tibet was a wonderful place before China turned up. The greater populous was treated as slaves by a ruling elite. The Dalai Lama was the ruler of a monotheistic dictatorship.

You know, if you seek an audience with the Dalai Lama, you have to make a donation of $2,000- $3,000. Not to charity... to HIM. There's faith and charity in action.... stick that in your prayer pipe!

  • @ascolti that "monastic dictatiorship" lie about HH the Dalai Lama was created by the Chinese to get more people on their side. Might i tell you that HH the Dalai Lama was only a CHILD when the Chinese came.

  • @myfreetibet Sorry, I didn't get my information from the Chinese, I got it from books; written by Europeans... But actually scientists and not just hippies who didn't know any better.

  • @ascolti They were probably commies

  • @myfreetibet Ha! I'm sure you'd like to think so. But no.

  • @ascolti You can always follow the links from this tinyurl DOT com/2y4st5

  • @ascolti racist asshole

  • @KrazyNinjaPanda You'd better substantiate that my little Panda. Because I merely pointed out a historic fact. So, if that makes me racist.... what are you?

Also, given you've actually no idea what "race" I am... how can you be sure?

But why don't you just throw out your little minded labels.

  • how could anyone think this is funny? it would never be ok for another country to joke about an american tragedy such as 9/11 but we're americans so its ok, right?

    hell no.

  • watch?v=90FAJK13C-0

Just another news from Xizang...I don't believe it, but this true. After 60 years, Tibet has changed a lot.

60 years ago, no many people can speak Putonghua. Mao couldn't speak Putonghua, and he didn't understand pinyin...but Tibetan kids, like millions of other Chinese kids, can. They are the hopes of China. :)

  • watch?v=tel9pQWYvnU

    Learn simple Tibet from Chinese.:)

  • WHAT? I mean, I'm not OFFENDED (though, I have empathy, so I CAN see how others would be offended), but it doesn't make SENSE.

why? why even start with Tibet, and why make a commercial start out with such a serious tone? it makes the entire thing seem thrown together & disjointed.

  • hahah that is one dumb bitch with no ssense of humor. that shit is funny fuck her

  • How would we feel if they made a similar joke in china about 9/11. Ok them!

  • I have to watch an ad in order to watch an ad? does that make sense youtube?

  • Comment removed

  • It is disgusting to joke about others plight.

China has been systematically destroying Tibetan identity since the invasion (1959)

  • Its not just Tibetan culture that is being wiped out. Tibet's environment is being wrecked and human rights in Tibet (and China) are a joke.

    please watch

    watch?v=4gBm4IHhKTs

    and learn about Tibet

  • Yeah, that ad was pretty tasteless... but hey, SAVE TIBET, THEY MAKE A GREAT FISH CURRY, SAVE THE CURRIES!!! :)

I love Indian/Tibetan food, thats enough reason to save Tibet!

  • Who is that girl giving the news? she is horrendous.

  • I just can't get over how stupid people are. THIS WAS SATIRE! It was meant to draw attention to our consumerism. Also, the company gives hundreds of thousands of dollars to Tibet's cause. The ad was intended to serve the dual purpose of drawing our attention to important social issues while also giving us an incentive that personally motivates. Did everyone think Dr. Strangelove was serious, too? Is everyone going crazy for The Producers on Broadway because they're in favor of the Nazis?

  • I have to watch a commercial before watching a commercial?

  • Free Dalai Lama!

  • @lycopene1 He is not in prison he just lives in exile in India.

  • First active U.S. participation

US was never formally a member of the Allies but became a self-styled "Associated Power". US had a small army, but, after the passage of the Selective Service Act, it drafted 2.8 million men and by summer 1918 was sending 10,000 fresh soldiers to France every day. In 1917, U.S. Congress gave U.S. citizenship to Puerto Ricans when they were drafted to participate in WWI, as part of the Jones Act. Germany had miscalculated,....US population in 1900 is 75m.-:)

  • Can't make any jokes now

  • the worst thing about this video is the ridiculously stupid woman

  • Panada + Aba Tibetan-Qiang Autonomous Prefecture:

Aba is famous for its beautiful scenery, distinctive ethnic customs, and abundant tourist resources. Famous scenic attractions include the Jiuzhaigou, a fairy tale world, Huanglong, a state-class scenic zone; the Wolong Nature Reserve, China's largest natural habitat for giant pandas; Siguniang (Four Girls) Mountain, a state-class scenic zone; Aba is also home to many precious and rare wildlife, including giant pandas, golden monkeys, ...

  • That woman is the PUREST example of how many Americans do not understand dry humour. It isn't a funny advert and it is based on a tragic state of a country yeh? But it is not serious and for that, it cannot be condemned.

I also don't care how a light is shone on an issue as long as it is truthfull and attracts attention. This ad is both.

  • Make no mistake. Attacking Tibet is attacking China.

    Go Tibet!

    Happy Losar!

  • tibet is hopeless. just defeat china as a whole. that's the only hope

  • Groupon: Cock in your face.

  • TYT can't handle some ironic comedy. Geez, grow some balls. "That was disasterous!" stupid. . .

  • watch?v=-MEHbusnFm8

    I don't mind being brainwashed...Proud to be a Chinese!

  • Other evidences that China is part of Tibet. LOL.

We all know what is Snow Lion and Panda. We all know China was called a sleeping Lion.

Now the lion is Awakened, or the giant panda is Awakened? The latter looks more peaceful.

Either way, the snow lion is is a celestial animal of Tibet. Pandas live in eastern Tibet region. Tibet and China have been fully integrated, you can't separate them no matter how hard you try.

  • China was part of Tibet. Here is why.-:D

Tibetans didn't pay tax to Chinese emperors, such as Kublai, Zhu Yuanzhang, or Kang xi. Instead, Chinese sent tons of gold, silver to Tibet and built Lama temples. Chinese emperors and Dalai Lamas recognized each other...some emperors are Tibetan Buddhists, others are Han Buddhists. The 1st emperor of Ming dynasty was a monk when he was young.

Dalai Lama is the legacy of China. No more emperor, but Dalai Lama and Marixsm will continue...

  • Any (human) person who knows how bad the situation is would be offended by this.

  • Offensive and quite sick. The people responsible should be ashamed.

  • watch?v=RH0E7V1KChE

    Jump to 1:17 and 2:28

  • They could have made a better ad without being so controversial, but I personally think they didn't intentionally try to insult Tibetans, it was just a joke. I mean, look at all the ads that portray black people being criminals.

  • -____- idk why people get offended so easily but everyone has a different sense of humor as an opinion.

  • On thing I can guarantee to all of you who think this was a funny add...if you were a Tibetan you would think otherwise. None of you McDonalds eating, Jersey Shore watching brats could even understand the suffering those people have been through. Your opinions are irrelevant, you could at least have the decency to TRY and understand what other people in this world go through before making light of it. As I said earlier, if it were YOUR family,I bet you would have a completely different reaction.

  • I don't see anything wrong with the ad. Saying chinese people are good cooks are nothing offensive.

  • @terminalsidearm The lack of understanding and intelligence in this post set new lows, even for Youtube.

  • @Cancrizans What are you talking about? Aren't they all chinese?

  • I'd hit it...

  • I just can't stop staring at her rack. Nice looking.

  • for those who liked this line of advertisement here is a thought: imagine that instead of Tibet situation or brazilian rainforest problem, etc, Groupon makes fun of WTC tragedy. Would be like this: oh jeez... families of WTC disater are in such a bad shape, but you know what? They can still get 50% off in the great afghan restaurants in town! JUST THINK ABOUT IT!! Joke about other people´s problem is not funny at all!

  • @rodrigombr Exactly...and there were a LOT less people killed on 9/11 than have been murdered and tortured in Tibet. But really, the type of responses I am reading here are nothing knew, I can guarantee 99% of them come from Americans(of which I am one), because our educational funding has been reduced to such abysmal levels, while we endorse the idea of stupefying our own people with such inane forms of entertainment, that many of us just don't have any compassion or understanding anymore.

  • While Tibetan monks get massacred and tortured, I am glad we can take a stance against it a protest commercials...finally, a solution!

  • @tentative0630 Your analogy is ridiculous. It would be more like the U.S. government taking control of Michigan; harshly limiting Detroit citizens' religious practices & whom they associate with (e.g., no listening to Eminem – a rapper expelled from the entire state); censoring Detroit Free Press (ironic?); arbitrarily ARRESTING, TORTURING, even EXECUTING some of our peaceful Detroit friends (there are some); instituting forced birth control incl. abortions and sterilizations. . . list goes on.

  • @MaxAck Get your facts straigh The 1-child policy does not apply to the Tibetans or any minorities in China. Chinese rights are limited but the Tibetans-Chinese have more rights than most other Chinese.

  • MT Everest does not belong to Tibet. It is pointless to show it in ad.

  • it would be hilarious if their new sponsor was groupon.

  • Comment removed

  • I dont think its offensive or funny

  • @flash5567 agreed

  • @flash5567 agreed

  • How is this even offensive??

  • "The people of Tibet are in trouble. Their very culture is in jeopardy" juxtaposed with Tibetans' ability to "whip up an amazing fish curry" to satisfy Timothy Hutton's gastronomical conceits.

The only people whose intelligence and sensibilities are NOT offended by this crap are the ad's copywriters, Groupon IPO investors, and idiots. I see all three well represented in these comments.

What's next year? Kebabs & laughing at U.S. complicity in the Palestinians’ plight? Andrew Mason is an IDIOT.

  • It's hardly worth a reply here other than to say we Americans are a smug, arrogant, materialistic people...I mean as long as they make a good fish curry and we can save a few bucks, who really gives a shit about what's going in Tibet, right?

  • ok ouch...but not offensive to protest over.

  • BTW the mountain they show is not even in Tibet. It's the Shivling mountain which is in Uttaranchal, India.

  • get over it people!!

  • Offensive? Maybe, maybe not. But it's definately not funny.

  • Ana is just a dumb chick - she needs to just flash the cleavage and shut her mouth. If she found the Groupon ads offensive then she really must be living a cushy life where it is free of any real problems. Comfortable people are desperately looking for things to be upset and offended by.

  • this is the beautiful country of afghanistan, but its people are in trouble, occupation, poverty, violence, death... but hehey their kids still make cheapest tube socks, and me and my friends got a dozen a dollar at walmart, empire for the win!!!

totally agree with ana, this is desastrous, dont give me your pc-anti-pc bullshit

  • It was not offensive--nor was it funny...People just like to whine about it. duh.

  • i think it was funny.. end of discussion lol .

  • The most offensive thing about this commercial is how unfunny it is.

  • This commercial was hilarious. Thank you Timothy Hutton. You rock.

  • agreed with Cenk. hahaha i laughed wen ana said the joke about the blood diamonds

  • Not offensive and honestly not funny.

  • shut up bitch

  • I've got nothing against making jokes about serious thigs, but what I find to be in poor taste is that they did it in a commercial. Essentially using the hardship of helpless people to sell a product. However, it's their ad, they can do what they want, and in return the viewer can choose whether or not to buy the product.

  • who cares, who is it going to offend? The people of Tibet... dont think they will ever see this. people just try to find anything to bit*h about and they can get over it.

  • Who the fuck thought this would be a good idea?

  • im offended because clearly the tibetans have better food than i do.

    ...amidoinitrite?

    #trollface

  • It's not offensive or funny.

  • Tibet is not in bad shape. may be they don't have American idols and big F150 pickup trucks but they have their simple life there.

  • I was more offended by the normal youtube ad.

  • Heres a way to make it better. Grab Stick then promptly remove it from your ass if you found offense to that.

  • Not as big an issue as some people are making it out to be. More important things to spend time worrying about then this.....

  • I don't find this offensive at all... regardless of what you publish, if more than a million people are going to see it, someone is bound to be offended.

  • When I saw this ad I rolf'd my carpet bare! Little did I know the REAL punchline of the joke wasn't even in it... Sure enough, a small army of active citizens was personally offended by it, thus making them the butt-end of an ingenious publicity act! I really shouldn't jest though; what mind could possibly comprehend the number of tedious hours each of these surely valiant crusaders have spent distributing iodized salt packs to the nutrient-deficient natives, or resettling the Tibetan refugees?

  • Lol jesus...so many ppl are easily offended crybabies today, get the fuck over your whining...politically correct dicktards...

  • The best thing I ever seen this guy do is to take one in the face from shovel swung by Johnny Depp

  • Loved it... no one cared before.. this has been going on for quite sometime, where were their tears then

  • That fat fuck has sold out!Boycott groupon and netflix!

  • The restaurant "himalayan-restaurant-chicago" on groupon serves cuisines of Nepal, *NOT* Tibet.

    groupon site says: on chicago/deals/himalayan-restaurant-chicago:

Himalayan Restaurant merges the spiced-up cuisines of India and Nepal to produce the authentic fare of the mountainous region.

  • Its just not funny.

  • I hate this ad simply because it makes t

  • of course it was funny. IT WAS FUNNY! Bimbo, get over it.

  • Stupid people are easily offended.

  • I find this ad mildly confusing because even if you take out it's alleged offensiveness it's not funny. I guess Christopher Guest is loosing it. The good thing is it has sparked interest into the massive human rights abuse taking place in Tibet by China. Write to your Congress representatives or local MPs and tell them that you oppose the human rights abuse taking place in Tibet and wish them to take a peaceful political stand against it.

  • You people , like, say right and like, like way too much, like you know what I mean...right? Like cmon, ok? right? I mean can you imagine, like, if I actually listened to everything you were saying ...right?...like......ok?

  • Hilariously offensive?

  • Two correct assessments.

This ad evokes an emotional response from the viewer. Mission accomplished.

The Bimbo on this video saying it's offensive needs to get a clue.

If any Tibetans out there ARE offended, I'll correct myself and say I was wrong. Until then...get a life people.

  • Pleassseeee--the host of this show is hypersensitive. I agree. "Watch the game".

  • Now I have to try this fish and get me some diamonds!!

  • The commercial has no similarity with blood diamonds, Tibetan people are not dying because of fish curry. I honestly think it was a funny commercial. How many of the people that were offended by this video are even from Tibet??? Stop trying to seem like you really care. If someone were to truly care they would help out the people from Tibet.

  • @jcglezt2k The idea that a person need go to extraordinary means just to prove that they think something is terribly wrong is ridiculous. The atrocities committed against the Tibetan people are equal to any in other areas the US has "intervened" ... the only reason we don't get involved is there is no $ in it for us. This commercial clearly makes light of the suffering of millions of people, and while I don't expect any capitalist interest to know any better, I DO expect more of Timothy Hutton.

  • @jcglezt2k so in your opinion we are not allowed to have empathy?

  • @jcglezt2k I respect your opinion and you made a very good point but in my opinion, even though they did not mean to be mean in any way, they still should not make light of something like that, and doing so does not make the commercial funny. I am not saying that they should not put that ad up, but I can see how it can be considered offensive . And about helping the Tibetans, your right we should take action, but there is very little we can do and making an ad like that does not help the cause

  • @jcglezt2k

Fuck off you astroturfing arsehole. Don't you understand? They are being repressed and slaughtered? This sort of thing trivialises their suffering and makes light of the fact that they are being killed and in fact exploits it for commercial gains, do you think there isn't an ethical question here or does trying to gloss over that pay too well?

  • the beginning of the video served to catch the attention of viewers, a method that every person making a commercial would use. there is no reason for anyone to get offended.. south park makes more 'offensive' jokes then this. there are more important things to worry about.

end of story, this commercial is funny. just like south park.

  • @ohhellotherek Your right, but south park informs you that the jokes you will encounter are offensive from the get-go. Here theres no such disclaimers to inform the audience or even to tell that it was a joke. I mean the guy doesn't go on or off character like you would see on similar joke ads. All in all I think it should take heat more for being a bad commercial more than being offensive. I mean the actor was just plain LOUSY!

  • @ohhellotherek

The girl is right but the guy he is an IDIOT!!!!!!!

  • @paulierossie totally agree. She is STUUPID

  • Comment removed

  • @ohhellotherek First off, while it may be acceptable in our society, which has incredibly low moral standards, to find it clever or enterprising to purposefully practice deceit on members of the same society for profit, that doesn't make it right.South Park's humor, while at times offensive, almost always pokes fun at the ignorance and greed in the world, rather than adding to it. And I bet you wouldn't think there were more important things to worry about if your family were the ones suffering.

  • I can't see how anyone can mistake this for anything but incredibly insulting. The ad starts out by stating that the people of Tibet are in trouble...their CULTURE is in jeopardy...and then goes on to mock the situation by basically saying "who cares, as long as Groupon enables us to get Tibetan cuisine for cheap har har!" Well, you think their food is good, but who cares if Tibetan families are being murdered right? Let's see how long we can exploit everything around us until it's gone.

  • @Cancrizans but Tibetan families are not being murdered. In a country where most people have limited civil right, the Tibetan minorities have more rights than everyone else.

  • @ohhellotherek

Fuck off you astroturfing arsehole. Don't you understand? They are being repressed and slaughtered? This sort of thing trivialises their suffering and makes light of the fact that they are being killed and in fact exploits it for commercial gains, do you think there isn't an ethical question here or does trying to gloss over that pay too well?

  • It gets attention...it worked...how many people looked up this video because of the ad...

  • @supersport396 except it didn't really work. I heard today that a bunch of people were boycotting the company and they were forced to end the ad campaign. all 3 of the commercials are being taken off the air. the company considers it a failure

  • Dumb and unfunny? Yeah

    Insensititve? Yeah.

    Offensive? Hardly.

  • Comment removed

  • this chick is retarded. yet hot

  • wait... wat? so who is supposed to be offended?

  • I loved this commercial. It's too bad they're pulling it now because all of you LAME MOFOS can't take a joke. However, y'all made it ten times funnier by reacting the way that you did. It's kind of like when people get bent out of shape over a South Park episode. It always makes it that much funnier that someone was actually peeved by it. XD

  • Oh my god, boo-bloody-hoo. People are so sensitive! You people don't really care about the people of Tibet, you're just looking for something to gasp at and pretend you're taking offense over. For goodness sake, get a grip. It's a commercial and it was funny. Take a joke for once in your sad life. Jeez, South Park has been on the air for years, you'd think you'd be used to that kind of "let's take this too far" humor.

  • that party last night was so wild... i thought i was in egypt for a sec

  • i found it funny because i'm a bad person but it was offensive because it's a current conflict (also inaccurate with the food :/). It's like making fun of the riots in Egypt currently. Just in bad taste. o well. wont stop people from using grouppon. Good concept by execution.

  • Now I can't figure out which is worse: the commercial or these clueless assholes?

  • People don't know anything about Tibet. That's why it's okay to laugh at. They were making fun of those Christian donation commercials you see to feed the hungry. But if they used Ethiopians or something, people would say it's too much. No one knows shit about Tibet so it was safer. In a commercial humor kind of way. It was still a stupid commercial though.

  • she was hotter when i was horny

  • advertisement for an advertisement? wow

  • It could be worse. I don't think holocaust jokes are funny, Ann Frankly I wont put up with them.

  • It is funny. That girl needs to get a sense of irony.
