  • Looked this up from roosterteath vid ll

  • Nice spot of ironing going on there...

    Leslie

  • Quailty Street :)

  • i want this job!

  • Lame crap ass music...

  • Superb video , I done three southern crosses tours and was part of a team that brought them home when typhoon took over! Memories!!

  • Love the invert at 2:00 !! Fantastic.

  • Awesome video man, great quality and great fun!

  • Anymore

  • Winchester/RumpRanger lurks around UK military videos on Youtube dripping out his inane "observations". He obviously loves us, given he's been doing it for years and only visits UK vids. I don't know what his beef is - perhaps his wife was repeatedly double-ended by Rockapes behind the Flintknapper while he was buying beef jerky and a plastic gallon jug of maple syrup in the "PX" at Lakenheath. Or, more likely, he's just another inadequate American gun nut with a monolithic inferiority complex.

  • Nice vid, pretty much captures the essence of the 'old 1435 Flt'. Wonder if it'll be the same now the Typhoons are there - no backseat pax trips though, that's for sure!

  • Awesome. Many thanks for posting this.

  • BOYCOT4T, WinchesterRanger, with the role this aircraft was designed to do, your comments make no sense.

It might be wise to have a clue as to what you are talking about before posting nonsense.

F-16 for example is a wonderful machine, but it would not have been much good for the role the F.3 was built to do.

Same goes for some other alternatives in 1976 when the Tornado Air Defence Variant was selected, others which might, being too expensive, meaning you don't get to buy enough of them.

  • A hugely enjoyable film!

Love the 'housekeeping' on the C-130 at 2.31!

To some of the ill informed comments about the F.3's, now replaced by Typhoons, it was designed to patrol the vast areas of UK airspace and the Eastern Atlantic against a bomber threat.

Never pretended to be a 'dogfighter' (though formidable at low level), instead the role needed all weather, good range and loiter ability, a powerful radar, heavy missile load operating in a heavy electronic warfare enviroment.

  • Off to the falklands at the weekend to 1435 flt. Looking forward to it, should be an interesting few months. lol

  • kinda R.A.F. propaganda footage the "airshow" kind.actual battle footage the M.O.D. will not make public since the prestations of the tornado are extremely poor.

  • an F3 vs an F15 in BVR should be about even, similar age similar weaponry and such.close in dogfight different matter,F15 should have the edge but it depends on the crew and the situation, they were designed for different jobs

  • Love the vid, you lot must have a bit of time on your hands! All the best from blighty to all down there, and wish you better weather too (haha)

PS: everyone else, please don't feed the trolls, it only encourages them.

  • Great video - I love the Falklands, and yes, I did a tour there in 1994. It brought it all back! I met my husband in the Falklands - he was a pilot on 1435 Flt, and I was an Education Officer. Lo-ong time ago...I used to cook for the crews at Q..ah, happy memories. Oh yes, and I went for a flight in an F3. Best thing ever. Hubby loved flying the F3...especially measles at Alice and Byron.

  • Greetings from an ex Byron Boy - "viva le heights & 7 SU"

  • Great video this. Lots of great footage. got back from 4 months on 1435 in Oct 08 and loved it. Hope I get to goo there on Typhoons.

    Extreme ironing made me chuckle.

  • "Lame duck" that regularly kicks F15 butt when allowed to play fair. Funny how so much European kit beats the "best of the best" when not nobbled by the (American) 'rules'... see also most MiG and Sukhoi aircraft - in fact, most non-American aircraft in general. Not saying F3 is perfect - she ain't, but how an American dare criticise anyone else's kit when the only reason the USAF wins most "contests" is cos they write the scripts is beyond me ;-) Oh yeah, MUD HEN!

  • Define "regularly kicks F15 butt".

The only aircraft you ever had that was capable of that was the Sea Harrier, and then only within visual range.

The Tornado F3 is a flying turd, you're lucky you never had to take it into combat.

  • ''you're lucky you never had to take it into combat''

look in your history books instead of watching britney spears videos.

''The only aircraft you ever had that was capable of that was the Sea Harrier, and then only within visual range''

Compared with aircraft of the time it was best in BVR as well, the only thing you have better than the typhoon is the f-22 and the future doesnt look bright for that either.

  • Erm, I'm sorry, but I don't need to. The only combat the F.3 ever got near to was in Gulf War I, when its capabilities were considered so poor that it was relegated to rear area operations - it never so much as saw an Iraqi aircraft on its much fabled Foxhunter radar, you know, the one that used to be a block of cement, leading RAF aircrews to call it the Blue Circle radar.

  • You obviously didnt look in your history books, because as you have just proven with your slightly false information is that the Tornado did see combat, lets just go back to your comment a few months ago which was ''you're lucky you never had to take it into combat'' Hmmm, slightly wrong information there i must say.

  • Mr Ranger, i also love the way you get your facts from wikipedia, like somersetrugby sais, sod off, as we dont need wikipedia armchair generals to guide us on information.

  • You plainly need someone to guide you. See also the grossly under-armed Type 45 destroyer.

  • F.3 patrolled the Iraqi no fly zones for years. Plenty of Iraqi aircraft were monitored on the F.3s radar over years of operations. F.3s also took part in the patrolling of Yugoslav and former Yugoslav areas up and during Allied Force in 1999. No combat kills though.

  • No one ever seriously expected the F.3 to shoot anything down, it did preserve a few jobs though, always the primary consideration in any UK military development project.

  • I disagree. With its missile package it was still capable of delivering the bad news to those that got in its way. If you look at the air-to-air kills post Gulf War 1991 in the no-fly zones, the F.3 and its missile package in the same situation would have just have had as much success. The same went for the kills over Yugoslavia and former Yugoslavia. For example the F-15s that downed the two MiG-29s over Bosnia in 1999 had just taken over from two F.3s on that patrol.

  • By that same argument a B-52 would make an excellent air superiority fighter as it could carry a powerful radar and lots of missiles. It is perhaps one aircraft an F.3 could out turn though.

Have you ever spoken with an F.3 crew? I have at a UK airshow, the radar/nav made one comment to me that I'll never forget, and I quote him "if we ever see an Su-27 I hope it's going the other way very fast".

    Hardly confidence in your equipment.

  • Correct in that context it is not a dog-fighter, but it wouldn't be employed on such missions as Deny Flight or on the Southern No Fly Zones if it was incapable of BVR kills. I served in the RAF and recently retired. With the missile package / datalink employed the F.3 an extremely capable package. It proved it time and time again on countless exercises and deployed in operational theatres. Correct that it was sidelined during GW1, but with the missile upgrade and datalink it wasn't thereafter.

  • I didn't realise that you're ex RAF.

Thanks for your service, you guys do a great job.

  • No probs. 1435 Flt in the Falklands are due this year to receive Typhoons. The first couple of examples have over the past few days have received their 1435 Flt markings at RAF Coningsby, Lincolnshire.

  • @WinchesterRanger It's capabilities are in fact better than the F-15, as proven in red flag.

  • @MrStig691 Which of course is why it sold so well.

  • As for your need to define ''kicks F-15 butt'' well, if you followed operations at redflag from 1996 - 1999 you would see that the Tornado achieved a pretty good kill ratio to F-15's, this still happens today with the F-22, remember that report of a Typhoon taking out an F-22 at China Lake? you guys somehow managed to deny it, unfortunetly the pilot flying the typhoon on that mission was Mark Bowman, who is a test pilot at BAE, he sais it was a well covered up fact, typical of the USA.

  • @WinchesterRanger And the Harrier...and the Lightning...and the Typhoon...

  • How nice of you to share your comments with us. Now kindly sod off!

  • You're more than welcome old chap. The next time you need straightening out on anything, just give me a call.

  • Classic! Glad you guys had fun.

  • Nice views of the Deathstar. What a magnificent airport. The civilians who built it were superheros

  • Please stop having a pop at each other!!! I'm an ex-Liney on GR4's!! Truth is I love this video, I think some Aircrew can be, well, different and some Lineys can be, lacking in certain skills social or otherwise. The main point here is this video is amazing and I'd be proud to be associated with it!! So, lets all just get along, please? Lets keep making and posting videos like this eh? I hope no-one finds a reason to bitch at my comment, no doubt someone will.

  • HEAR HEAR !! - What good sense you talk - and thanks

    SOOZ

    xx

  • Totally welcome!! x

  • awesome vid 5*s (Y)

  • Reading through your comments it sad to see that you have decided this is the place to have an officer v airman bitch. You are both idiots, especially amyklarson. If you are a serving officer then you should know better than to enter into this kind of debate on a public web site. No wonder the armed forces are having problems with retention.

Finally to answer shockinghair question. Bondu is no longer with us. Scrambles has taken Bondu's place in the lazyboy at Q

  • As it happens, I started my RAF life as an airman AEngTechA/P, just can't suffer fools that think they know better. So dura101, I left 25Sqn in 2005 after 23 years of sevice, another that has no clue what he is talking about. Thanks for those massively constructive comments.

  • Good for you, some might say you did the right thing leaving! I would. I lot has changed in 3 years. Take it from someone who is still doing the job and does know what they are talking about.

  • Great spellink mayte. What job? 101 tanker wankers...give the world a rest! More curry please. Tactical my arse....failed at flight school and bitter more like!

  • I'll give you a clue. I was on 1435! What a fool you are. Let it go man, enjoy your pension and go bother someone who gives a toss.

  • Good job Bondu, you can talk! Now take that idiot with you and march along the mine fields..Oh Bondu stay behind the twat!

  • amyklarson. You play a good game however, is it your length of service with the RAF, your age (as stated in your youtube profile) or your whole facade that is a lie? To explain... you claim to have had 23 years service with the RAF but your youtube profile states your age as 36. The last time I checked, the military were not accepting 13 year old recruits. Hey, we all tend to bend the truth regarding our age as we get older but our past careers...?? Whichever way you look at it, you are lying.

  • Alltough I wasn't in this video, I spent several months of my life flying the F3 in the Falklands. Sadly, that idiot who claims to have been an engineer on my aircraft (25boysontheground) could only be trusted with pumping up the tyres....I seem to remember that 'Harry Atkinson' wanted you thrown off the Sqn. If he'd seen your written English skills, as well as your general pathetic attitude, you may now belong in your niche...Dog turd collection

  • Awesome vid, thanks for posting! Go air force!

  • Wicked vid, I was on a pin-monkey tour in early 2001, great times. I remember that cross been painted on the roof of the Q building for target practice by the chinooks, and bondu .... still alive!!!!!

  • Can't believe that a legitimate RAF Officer would conduct this sort of business. So with that in mind, I reckon that 25boysontheground is either a 'guin having a laugh or someone whose playstation has broken down.

  • What extensive knowledge? In a pm to me, which I will post elsewhere, you displayed several gaps in knowledge of simple things such as ranks and procedure. knob.

  • try telling the pilots that .....

  • ino you dont backchat officers. Im a a/c techy at 25 sqn and we were sat there and we had nowt to do and a officer came in and asked what we were doing so ma mate said what does it look like. The officer told he to go with him. He was a flying officer against a flight sergeant, but he came back with all the colour drained out of him so am guessing the SEngO had a go at him.

  • I don't wish to sound patronising but your English grammar isn't very good for an RAF aircraft technician ......

  • mmmmmm ... !! ur forgiven for bein' sloppy - take it easy .. x

  • we get bolok*d because we dont take the cameras off them during pre-flight checks, so theres no lose articles in the cockpit, but they dont listen when we tell them.

  • What rubbish. I was asked if I would like to take a camera when I had my flight.

  • I'm guessing he's not even in the RAF. Probably an air cadet. He posted a couple of private messages to me claiming to be a Sqn Ldr. Shame about the poor spelling and grammar.

  • My spellign and grammer is crap so i can make quick messages. And im guessing you dont no the official secrets act 1911-1939-1989.

And at my age im too old to be an air cadet you d1ck. I am actually in the RAF, so how would you explain my extensive knowledge about the RAF? The truth is you dont no hardly anything about the RAF.

  • Mate,

I know you from when I flew the F3 off 25Sqn. Yep, you really are stupid. I seem to remember that your job was making the tea. What was your GCSE in... woodwork? You really are quite pathetic. I'm pretty sure that I know the rules about cameras in cockpits better than you! After all I flew the F3 for 20 years, were you still in Nappies when I started flying?

Stick to something you know about...like tea bag brewing times....if you can count.

    People, please/ignore excuse this idiot

  • Don't feed the troll any more 25boysonthegroung is an utter waster that doesn't even credit the light of day....not sure he'll understand that. Let's try ...you are an idiot and will remain one 'till you die. Or you can me me how a hot-shot reheat works....Ah, forgot, you do tea

  • Ha Ha Ha, well, I AM an "a/c techy" as you put it, and I really do feel that you should be inducted into the "PEN15 club" in fact, one of the biggest PEN15's in the club! club.

Awesome Video, long live the JEC Library and Kudos to the Rigger BFA drivers!!!!

  • You have a point, but on the other hand could you make a video this exciting about your job Mr Hawkman ?

  • Indeed - not many people get to realise their dream AND get paid for it ....!!!

  • This is one big, long, mutual hand shandy.

  • Top banana! Classic stuff! Well done

  • That is pure class. those guys have got the best job in the world. surley nothing can touch that.

    great vid A+++++

  • awesome vid i'll be sad to see the f3 leave leuchars

    for the last time !!
