  • the guy in the blue stands up pretty much the whole race. what a fucking noob.

  • You slow down a little to early on the turns and at the end the guy got his leg on the hay fucking noob lol

  • that guy in blue was just taking space and slowing you down... i hope he's retired.

  • giy in the blue sweater should not be there what an idiot

  • I wonder what this 83 KDX would be like on this track?

    hopefully pretty good.

sound's like the CR has really short gear's and short run till it's revved out.

    maybe not?

every track need's about 15 laps to get used to it.

Guy with the blue shirt is a hazard.

  • Good job, love how that guy wipes on the last lap, lol Good ridin!!!!

  • my back hurts watching this lol

my old twin shock bikes killed my back even as a kid

  • Great video! I haven't ridden in over a month because of work. It's been even longer since I last raced. Kept telling myself "twist it you wuss!" Then I realized I was riding my recliner. Need to get my '78 Pursang 250 ready for some PVMX.

  • Cool!

  • What type of helmetcam are you using?

  • ~3:10-3:20 Wooooo! nice...and 6:20 Haaaaahahahaha, LMAO! Great Video!

  • why weren't you race changing? i even do that on my DT lol makes it a lot faster and smoother

but what would i know your the one racing :P

  • What's race changing?

  • It's where hold the throttle open even when shifting up.. like slip the clutch and change really quick, the bike will rev only for less than a blink of an eye so it won't harm anything.

You've probably heard of this but just not the term "race changing"

  • @phaedrus44 something this guy just made up to sound smart or something?

  • just a sick ass video man i love watching these old bikes just fricken pin it.

  • Is there a class where a guy could race a custom bike? Such as, I'm thinking of trying to build a 79' CR250, but with a 480 engine swapped in. And I just turned the big 4 O this year. Vintage bike, vintage body, open class perhaps?

  • Not in AHRMA. There is post vintage but I believe there are rules against using a 250 chassis in a 500 class. If the chassis are similar you might be able to pass it off as a 480 but I doubt it.

  • Thanks. I had a feeling it might be an issue. I still haven't looked into it heavily. I'm guessing it would get stuck in like EVO open. I thought my first bike getting back into riding was going to be a twin shocker, but I actually wound up with an 85 Husky 500XC project. So, just slowly building that at the moment. Guess I'll probably buy a bike for tracks, and vintage a little further out.

What does something like the mid 70's KX400, or even a RM370/400 run in?

  • That was awesome! I was totally getting an adrenalin rush just sitting in my chair every time you came out of a turn. I to am in AZ and I'm thinking of getting back into riding after many years being out of it. Thinking of getting a bike within bout a year. Will race here in AZ, before moving to the NW. AGain, that was lots O fun to watch, thanks!

  • Love the sound of that old Elsinore. My dad and I race AVDRA in Arizona. Nothing beats an old bike!

  • except for a new one

  • LOL

  • Awesome winner vid,thx for the ride :-)

  • i would so love to see some1 do a backflip on a vintage bike lol

  • i love seeing all those 2 STROKES best bikes ever made and still are!!!

  • that was a hell of an experience from my armchair. Brought me right back to 1975 when I used to race a 125 Elsinore!!! I have to get back into it!

Great race, so glad you picked of the guy in the blue sweatshirt

  • hey is this the elsinore? dad used to race a 125 elsinore back in the day

  • that 250 sounds like a beast when its idling. the old cr 250s were awsome bikes. my frieds dad bought one the first year they came out and he never had a problem with it.

  • wow, great vintage race, how did you keep the front end down on that 74 CR250 ?

  • What camera did you use for this?

  • What Camera are you using for this video?

  • niiiiice you finally passedthe guy in blue

  • I don't know how you guys manage on those antiques... My hats off to you, I had a hard time on my old '99 yz 125 tryin to hit anything bigger than 60 feet; I can't imagine how it is on a '74

  • where did you get your helmet cam?

  • hey dude maybe ill see you at metcalf i live in the bay area to

  • Can you tell me what brand/model your helmet cam is

  • Ive seen this post several times before , great action and ridin my Bro just picked up a 74 else 250 great machine do you live near the Bay Area?

  • Thanks for the compliment, yeah, we're in the Bay Area. I sometimes practice at Metcalf.

  • Man good video still wish i had my old elsinore now.

  • Totally love it Post more..

  • Great Video... yeah whats interesting to me is how smooth the track is compared to the damage done by bikes of today...that sound of a 2 stroke motor brings back some memories..ex yz air cooled 250 plodder..

  • Thanks for watching! Actually, some of the tracks we race on get pretty torn up. I think sometimes the limited travel bikes tear up the tracks worse than mondern bikes! However, the folks who run Tulare take really good care of the track. Before every set of motos, they drag it with a tractor then run a rotary harrow over it so it's perfect for racing!

  • those old bikes are nasty...I got a 87' YZ250 and that is one mean motherfucker. Keep ridin' boyz

  • alright thanks im just a begginer i ride my buddys honda z50 and we take it off jumps and shit it's bullet proof but we had to replace the rear rim this winter i also have a 1976 yamaha yz 125 but it dose not run so i wanted somthing that could take a little beating because id take it to trails and go off mid size jumps once i get better im proboley gonna look into buyin a 1980's suzuki rm 125

  • hey im gettin a 1976 suzuki rm 125 could that thing take the jumps and what ever?

  • Absolutely. I also race a '76 RM370. As long as you don't go too insane, a vintage bike is cool for most medium doubles and tabletops.

  • Man... now I wish I still had my '75 Yammer MX250!

  • at about 3:27, nice pass on the outside!!

  • Sweet Video. Enjoyed every minute

  • By the way , how much psi do you run in your rear tyre, im running about 16-18, ive got a 1974 Cr125m on methanol and it struggles with grip

  • Usually about 11-12. If you have at least one rimlock, it should be OK. I use a Michelin S12 or M12 on the back. I use 9-10 in the front S12. You want to run the back a couple pounds higher than the front so it's easier to light it up and keep it in the powerband.

  • that is some good riding, the elsinores are no where near as easy to ride as moderns good work.

  • Thanks for the comment. The 74 Honda especially was known for pushing really bad, and this bike does too. We have the forks pushed way up in the triple clamps, extra long shocks, a Michelin S12 tire, and I sit up on the gas tank to turn it, and it still doesn't turn in as good as a Bultaco or Maico!

  • oh man; that exhaust note brings back memories! still regret selling my '77 mr175 elsinore (my first bike) nice ridin!

  • awesome!

  • Awesome vid! Nice job being patient with those two guys then blasting by em. I currently race vintage Flat-Track and will soon be doing some vintage MX on an old '79 XR500. You've inspired me!

  • Have I seen you at the Gene Romero/Eddie Mulder flat tracks on a XR500? I've got a '79 XR250, and I even have the 23" front wheel!

  • nice vid

  • I have raced AHRMA since 05, raced TVRC since 91, and that is representative of the fun of VMX. Was the ANC Yamaha rider Tammy Rice? I don't know who all Jimmy has riding for him-but great race. My debut race on my 77 Maico in 05 Phx was dominating-much to my suprise. I never hurts to have a really fast bike either. You have a fast 250 Elsie.

  • nice race what did u place? you kicked as$

  • Phaedrus44: It's nice to talk to people who know the "Behind the Scenes" of what it really takes to get out there,do it, and win. I've rebuilt a LOT of bikes in my time, and destroyed a few engines along the way...mainly due to poor or ill jetting. The hardest carb I've came across to jet properly was the old, "Bing" carbs....Remember them?...if not, you don't want to! (LOL). I' m gonna have to prep a couple of ol' Irons for the up comming season...you got me pumped now!

  • Great vid, it looks like you are having a blast.

  • I just watched it again....The only thing you could of done better (or differently) would be to drop your pilot jet two numbers, and or, take the air/mixture screw out a 1/4 turn to crispen up the low rpm throttle response,( gets rid of that "Girgle") or, Keep the bike "Up on the pipe", and use the clutch instead of hunting for a more apropriate gear. You did great bro!...I'm gonna have to pull out a couple of my vintage bikes this summer.

  • Good ear you have. This was the first race on a fresh motor, so we left the pilot one size big and the jet needle one clip rich to help it break in. Thanks for the reply !

  • Great !! I just crossed-over to Vintage motocross. My 1974 CR250M sounds exactly like the video. I had no idea the powerband was so narrow. At first I thought my bike was blubbering WFO on the straights !! I am trying to work my way up to AHRMA. Will practice again in about 12hours... Thank you !!

  • Some people don't like them, but the Circle F pipe we run widens the powerband and gives you a ton more torque while sacrificing just a tiny bit of top end.

  • Nice vid!!

  • Great vid dude!

  • hey thats a great vid and jolly good fun to watch

  • That was sweeeeet...Great race, you were patient and the bike sounded crisp too. Thanks for posting.

  • Great race, i would like to try one of those antiquity.

  • You can almost smell the castor bean oil. Great race footage. Tulare looks like a Vintage friendly track. The guy on the orange Yamaha was riding over his head. Or, on his head.LOL

  • i bet fatboys wife fired up the grill...

  • It takes a real man to ride a pogo stick like a 74' CR fast. You're pretty damn fast!

  • you finally made the pass. The fat guy probably saw a donut off the side of the track. Nice job.

  • Awesome! GREAT video. Bike sounds good!

  • Great to watch, i even cheered when you passed those 2 guys 3 or so minutes in ^.^
