Hayley has that timbre quality in her voice, which makes it not syrupy syrupy sweet, but appeals to an inner chord in your soul that makes you want to hear her more.... Hayley, you are great!
Must admit I also like the Slane castle version better but that had a big stage presentation and also I loved the whole show by Celtic Woman which probably influences these thoughts. Hayley is great anytime though.
I don't think it's that bad. But I'd rate it her worst version. Her Slane Castle version with Celtic woman is much better and her studio version is too. Even her gestures here are irritating to me. I suppose she has bad days like the rest of us.
I'm not sure exactly what I said now, but I certainly wasn't trying to disparage her. I don't understand your thinking or why I got deleted.
It's funny really. At her worst she does sing a million times better than I do. So? Just because I think she has done it better on other occasions doesn't mean that this time isn't great.
She has done several versions of this song, and always does them differently. This is not a bad thing, but we'll all prefer one version to another. What's wrong with that? Actually, after listening to this one again, I start to like it better than I did at first. Perhaps it is a case of prefering the first version you hear. But I still prefer the Slane Castle version, and the Belfast 2008 (I think it was) versions. I accept that other people's tastes may differ.
this is the first time of hearing her. I just happened to click on her amazing grace live on you tube about a week ago. Now i have another favorite singer, I accidently heawrd of another singer like this 10 yrs ago and she too was added to my favorite singers Enya, both these women have a great voice to listen to all the time.
Actually Simon and Garfunkal just made it famous, period. It was written a long time ago, during the 17th century. If S and G take credit for writing it, they're rip-offs.
mpsarqe1 & danqmills: The Scarborough fair was originated by King Henry III in 1253. It is an English ballad but there is no consensus as to its origin since they are many versions of it. However, the refrain "parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme, dates to the 19th century versions. The version you hear here was learned by Simon from Martin Carthy a famous English folk singer. S&G were then copy write credited as the authors which made Martin very unhappy.
If I'm not wrong, she and Meav alternated between concerts at certain cities. I think Hayley was performing when she stopped by my town, I didn't get to go to the concert because I was out of town :'(
busking is when one performs in the street with a little hat or cup trying to earn money and stuff. Basically what you see on the streets where people just perfrom to pass time or something..any type of street performance.

CashelWest, well if this is her bad day as you put it,it is a million times better than your best day.
nonnelyentraccm 3 years ago
well... "not her best day" doesnt meant "i can do it better", it just means "she did it better before", and thats what i think, too.
