Must admit I also like the Slane castle version better but that had a big stage presentation and also I loved the whole show by Celtic Woman which probably influences these thoughts. Hayley is great anytime though.

It's funny really. At her worst she does sing a million times better than I do. So? Just because I think she has done it better on other occasions doesn't mean that this time isn't great.

She has done several versions of this song, and always does them differently. This is not a bad thing, but we'll all prefer one version to another. What's wrong with that? Actually, after listening to this one again, I start to like it better than I did at first. Perhaps it is a case of prefering the first version you hear. But I still prefer the Slane Castle version, and the Belfast 2008 (I think it was) versions. I accept that other people's tastes may differ.

Actually Simon and Garfunkal just made it famous, period. It was written a long time ago, during the 17th century. If S and G take credit for writing it, they're rip-offs.

However, the refrain "parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme, dates to the 19th century versions. The version you hear here was learned by Simon from Martin Carthy a famous English folk singer. S&G were then copy write credited as the authors which made Martin very unhappy.
