well I think that this person has had some very painful thing happen in his life and as a result he is angry at God or Jesus. I have a hard time as well even if I call my self a believer. I not sure how other people get their prayers answered. Or why some people have all the good things happening to them . well I think that this person has had some very painful thing happen in his life and as a result he is angry at God or Jesus. I have a hard time as well even if I call my self a believer. I not sure how other people get their prayers answered. Or why some people have all the good things happening to them . Some times I feel like a step child but then there are times I feel the love form God. Perhaps this person is having a hard time seeing the Love from God pray for him.

Have you never seen the prophets and apostles that could do those things? They were CONSTANTLY BEATEN, HATED, SCOURGED(harsher form of beating), HOMELESS, HUNGRY, etc. and chose to have those lives because of faith in Christ. They deserve(d) healing abilities etc.

I think the option they generally go with is the "not enough belief" trail. They'll tell you it didn't work because you didn't have enough faith.
At least, from a personal angle, I was never completely sold on it when I was a believer so I was convinced that it would work if I would just be convinced that it would work. However, I was never fully convinced so I de-converted, if that makes any sense.

The act of prayer itself isn't what matters, it's the faith that matters. The rest of your comment only talks about the unanswered prayers, but forgets the "believe" and "not doubt" part of Jesus' sentence. If you're a philosopher, you should know you cant judge a philosophy without taking the entire thing in context

So, everytime someone prays for something, it should come true. If not then either you don't really believe in Jesus, or Jesus was a liar. Which one is it? And yes, there are a bunch of contradicting verses in the bible. Doesn't mean anything.
You're also comparing John's words to Jesus' words. John is not Jesus. Jesus said Anything in these verses. He didn't say "anything, unless I don't agree." Why didn't Jesus just say this if that was what he meant, or if that's the way things really are?
Once again "anything you ask for will be done" Why say this if some things don't happen?

A. the one passage is in terms of persecution and the survival of the community of believers, b. the other is regarding making Halachot. You seem to think that the early believers took all statements literally, they did not. I would suggest studying Jewish manners of teaching, Agada, Midrash, etc. If you want to attack the Bible, I would recommend using more thought out arguements, even the Gos. of Matt, is far more complex then I think you understand.
