  • @MichaelsPortraits haters hating. then listen to them, some of us like this

  • @MichaelsPortraits How can you say this is boring or derivative when you've put Malmsteen into the equation. Don't get my wrong, he's a good guitarist but out of any guitarist i listen to he is the least, it's all just non rhythmic shredding. Petrucci made some cracking solos and is better than either of these guitarists, if you had any sense as a listener or a player you'd respect the work of art and if you don't like it then take your bland, nonsensical, opinionated bullshit somewhere else.

  • @MichaelsPortraits

Right on!!! You can also include Steve Vai with Petrucci and Malmsteen. They all suck. No feeling whatsoever.

  • @sluv2600 .....No way ...Steve Vai is fantastic , one of my all time favorites ,

  • @sluv2600 agree, just putting aside malmsteen

  • LOVE THAT RIFF!

  • petrucci rules

  • 5:19 - 5:52 Epic

  • thats a heavy shit

  • SON POURRI

  • MUHAHAHAHAHA Primus Sucks!!!!

  • who is this asshole? Ron Jarzombek is wayyy btrr mannnn

  • @gattij1 lol, dude there playing styles are just about identical. What ever happened to giving people their props?! Lets face it all these guys shred. That is why they are there and we are here commenting xD! Don't hate cause it's not your preferred style of rock or metal.

  • @Silverguitar75 I'm an asshole too dont worry.

  • @gattij1 you just insulted one of the greatest and most acknowledged guitar player.

But you are probably gonna say the same thing for Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, Malmsteen and etc...

  • @gattij1 >>>>> fck urslf.... lrn 2 rspct music n' musician u asshole......

  • lol

  • 19 negative votes?? xDDD stupids

  • Bit too... Joe Satriani. Guess that's why this man was G3 worthy =D

  • This guy could have been someone else that can't play guitar... but it didn't happened that way...

  • this man can rock,I've got the G3 from Japan and Petrucci plays in. Good DVD

  • 0:38 am I the only person who thinks that the keyboard player is the guy from the Mummy???

  • Jaws of Life by John Petrucci,

    Huuuuuhhh...mantap gan!

  • riff of 5:23 is godness fuck yeah

  • Tank Petrucci could fuck you up.

  • The white Music Man is realy *.* o:

  • the first time i see this video, he gots just 20 k views

  • Omfg, there is no such thing as a 'best' guitarist, shut the fuck up about it....

  • I often wonder if his size has affected his technique i mean with musclur fatigue it may decrease practise value, with added forearm size it may slow finer movement, all the weights would also be pressuring the wrist more which is already used a lot with his guitar playering. I guess if its very graduell and well thought out it might not be a problem any thoughts anyone?

  • @epicmetalhead20 Simple physics. If two forces of the same amount are directed in opposite directions, they cancel each other out. Just like on a scale, if you put 2 lbs on one side and the same amount on the other, it's level. If you put 2000 lbs on one and the other, it's still level. Limbs work the same way, and if for some reason you only work out the flexor muscle, and not the extender, it stops growing to prevent imbalance. And muscle fatigue isn't a problem, since you just have*continued*

  • @epicmetalhead20 you just have to eat more. Bigger muscles increase metabolism by themselves, whether you use them or not. The human body is an extremely efficient machine, and extremely adaptable. You just need air, food and water and that's it! Usually, wrists can't be "used up", you can only harm them by crushing them. Oh and it's spelled "gradual" and "playing", sorry, I'm a grammar nazi.

  • @FranLesPaul nah man its cool sometimes i forgot to check what i write but ye from experience wen i lifted up until 3 months back if i was doing anything that directly affected the forarms i needed to rest for quiet a while afterwoulds before doing a serious practise session. But on the all i never had many issues ive stopped because i want more time for music. Was just wondering if his serious size would do anything to his form but ye what you said makes sense. Cheers.

  • What the hell does he drink on 3:30 and 5:20.. Maybe 17 guys on the breakfast ;)

  • The riff reminds me of Panic Attack for some reason.

  • @Langtw yea hehe. when i first heard this song i was all "yup... thats definitely his style" then i heard songs like lost without you and glasgow kiss and was all "whaaaaaaa??"

  • @ShreddyKrueger19 So you find that he is amazing is Lost without you and Glasgow kiss ?

  • @Langtw to me its like limp bizkit "eat you alive"

  • Powerful !

  • shit quality

  • oh yeah!!!

  • Rush and Dream Theater are the most talented bands that ever existed!!!

  • @lddevo88 Ya forgot about the 3rd of the prog metal Triad, Symphony X lol, love all three of those bands

  • @lddevo88 so true but Rush are better composers than dream theater and Geddy lee i than john Myung :)

  • @perfectdisasterband I don't know. John Myung is probably better at playing bass, but Geddy can multitask so well it's hard to decide.

  • @thericecrispy2 john myung is a better soloer but his riffs are no where near as complexed or as soulful and yes geddy can switch between synth and bass extremely well butwhen you been doing it 30 years I'd guess you be good at it :L

  • @lddevo88 what about btbam D:

  • @lddevo88 Don't you love how Dream Theater got their awesomeness from Rush. Rush literally is Dream Theater's biggest influence

  • @lddevo8 what about Steve Vai's band. they kick the shit outta DT and any of Frank Zappa's bands.

  • @CommBreakDown Well ...Zappa was Steve's idol his whole life and, far more of a father figure than a rival... he learnt his trade through FZ's band before he was in white snake or anything else.. Satriani taught him, and he took influence from all music, like a musician. You can't discount anyone, as they were/are all forming figures in progressive music. Dream theatre take influences from everywhere too. All of these people are good because they loved music and didn't bitch at anything : )

  • @hippychild123 i get what your saying but why the fuck are you telling me things i already know. and DT is less than any Zappa band. simply b/c they have more freedom to do w/e vs all the members usually were directed by Zappa.

  • @lddevo88 and symphony x and blotted science.

  • @lddevo88 Someone commented in responce to this comment of mine, but its nowhere online (from the looks of it), and since I liked it, and wanted to responed, I'm reposting what it said with a responce:

  • 3:29 aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh thumbs up if you agree :P

  • his new guitar is really ugly....why the fuck he changed the jp Ibanez?

  • @tornado600rr he changed it since 6 degrees of inner turbulence album...He liked MM's guitar a lot more, and I really agree with him.

Only guitar noobs care about how guitar looks above how guitar SOUNDS.

  • @thegp2008 yes ur absolutely right but come on there is nothing better than having a masterpiece for a guitar that sounds amazing aswell, so looks do play some part in it, sound wise fuck no but in whether a guitar is nice or not the looks play a part ,it may not be very big but oh well

  • @tornado600rr agreed. ibanez gave him style

  • petrucci must be very successful with women thats why he does a lot of exercise

  • saw him in Aruba 1998 but don't really remember

  • John Petrucci shuold practice more guitar to do a better songs instead of doing exercise to look better.

    xP

  • @Alrreola nahh man.

petrucci is just getting read for world domination.

he already mastered guitar, and now he's working on his guns.

    his guns+shredding=nuclear explosion

  • @qorwoduf4 u r so right man ...lol...nuclear explosion 4 surre

  • @qorwoduf4 Nice it's real !!!

  • sickest song ever!!

  • damn!!! only 5 petrucci photos!! lol excelent patrucci`s demostration of technique

  • its like eat you alive of LB..

  • Amazing

  • omggggggg stop being so perfect at guitar u make everyone else look bad

  • I appreciate speed, but I also think players like Robin Trower, Gary Moore and Stevie Ray Vaughn are awesome in their blues playing. Playing extremely fast isn't what makes a guitarist the best. It's all preference. With that said, my favorite guitarist is Joe Satriani.

  • ele é foda!!!

  • Perfect use of Pentatonic M7 ( 3:24 )

    I love this part.....

    Petrucci Feeling For Ever

  • 0.50 is the lowest I've ever seen his guitar he usually wears it like a bow tie hehe

  • @dougjwhalen omg yeah :P normaly its like way up hes chest :P

  • is that on a 7string guitar?

  • hell yes. nothing rocks like a 7-string

  • i can see now where limp bizkit stole the riff for the song EAT YOU ALIVE hehe

  • 5:23 - 5:54, that is probably the most kick ass metal rift I've ever heard

  • i was thinking to make exactly the same comment! omg! cheers:)

  • I don't know anyone who can play that including me

  • i preferred his Super-Saiyan look lol...and yea cool solo \m/

  • oh yeah

  • No one mentions darrel abbot the ledgend of pantera lol he was a great evoloutinary guitarist from glam era

  • According to Guitar Magazine Sean Lane was the fastest guitar who ever lived. MAB as a close second.

  • Fast doesn't mean anything bro. Look at Micheal Schenker.

  • @bknthday

Did I say playing fast dictated a songs, or players, quality of music? No. But Shawn Lane is an amazing guitarist, and personaly, I don't much care for Michael Schenker.

  • @bknthday it means a lot when comes to skills but to music, john petrucci is from the few that can play fast and make music at the same time... and he plays a lot of genres not only the metal that many thinks because of dream theater

  • u gave him a good example ;-) MSG .big times

  • For all the talk of MAB, PG, shawn lane, and everyone, noone mentions buckethead. hmm.

  • Thats because he's too good and shits on everybody else's face

  • Man! It's not about who's faster or who can do what. They're all great and make killer music. That's what it's all about.

  • @bknthday

    Amen, brother!

  • Comment removed

  • This is just AWESOME!! 5 stars no doubt!

  • unlike paul gilbert... THIS GUY can write music and not sound like pop!!!!! ( i still think paul's a great guitarist...)

  • @xXxRUSTINPEACExXx paul gilbert is a better player than john. but paul doesn't have many great melodies in his music it's just about speed (which is great anyway) but john has melodies and speed which is a good combination.

paul gilbert's better though and doesn't sound like pop at all for most of his songs lol.

  • lol.. PG is not just about speed!!! T_T

Paul can play faster than Michael Angelo Batio, but he doesn't do that in his songs..

  • lol no he cant

  • Dude, Michael Angelo Batio is not even that fast, Paul Gilbert has way better technique too..

  • i like PG's technique better, but mab is faster. MAB is probablly the fastest guitarist in the world

  • LOL'd.

MAB is absoloutely NOTHING in speed compared to guys like Rusty Cooley or Francesco Fareri.. AND Paul Gilbert.

Search for Snakebite, Paul Gilbert with sextuplets at 205 bpm, that's 20.5 notes per second.

  • @KYamada416 dude rusty cooley, shawn lane, and a few other guys BLOW MAB away dude. Look up "shawn lane close up solo" and tell me that doesnt destroy MAB.

  • lOOK AT the guitar player for all shall perish and JP,

  • how are you gonna compare that guy to jp.

  • just the solos he does though........

  • not even close

  • haha don't say Mab isn't fast.

  • I never said that

  • oh yeah

  • the best.

  • lol xD

  • i prefer skinny petrucci over tank pertrucci

  • Siege mode activated!

  • @Benno828282

I really don't mind him being skinny or a tank as long as he has the magic in his fingers :P

  • @Benno828282 Gay or what?O.O

  • @Benno828282 I don't. He looks so healthy and manly now :D

  • @Benno828282 Too Glen Danzig for me

  • @mediblue9 He is the Great Wizard of Awesomeness

  • That marshall is probably someone eles. its not on petruccis side of the stage, and dont forget that he always has his rig facing the back of the stage.

  • Petrucci, MAB, Vai, EVH all fucking rule.

  • What about Paul Gilbert?

  • @TheMostWantedR1

i knew i forgetting somebody, cheers

  • maestro

  • badass riffage \m/ long live metal

  • the start riff sounds like eat yew alive by Limp bizkit....but i still love it...

  • more like eat you alive sounds like jaws of life..

  • john petrucci is the best and michael romeo not dragonforce bitchs

  • at the beginning off the song there's a moment with the volume hugely increased,so it fuks my ears when i listen thru headphones..:( - its worth it tho hehe ;D cuz what follows next is a wonder!

  • this is the song hedras ramos was inspired to make the song insanity of the atoms ryt?

    anybody recogizes the sound similarity?

  • yes and hedras ramos just copied some parts of the song

  • Kind of. He uses the same scales in the same key, but he absolutely copied the main riff.

  • @faig1958

lol fail, the main riff is just a chugging metal rhythm, they sort of serve the same purpose in the same way whenever they are used, your comment is pointless.

  • @dmcgraye

    Your response is pointless.

  • No; that's what YOU sound like.

  • vai chupar uma rola seu DOENTE !

  • great song. nice job john petrucci

  • holy shit, THIS is why I love metal ! \m/

  • First picture at 0:06 is bad. Petrucci plays here 7-string (not 6 as on the picture)

  • lol whover compared slash to john petrucci is stupid. LONG LIVE JOHN PETRUCCI(and metal).

  • why there are only foto videos and video from cel phone, and there aren't good videos?

  • because you get this for free you moron? whatdyou xpect?

  • Jimlucas, my only argument there would be that while shredding does not = good, you are not that good if you can't shred well. most people get cause and effect mixed up. In my opinion, slash just can't keep up with guys like this, but they can keep up with him, thus they are better. Again, just my opinion.

  • p.s. by keep up I don't just mean speed of play, I mean quality also

  • i agree.

time signatures like these arent meant for the weak.

  • Hey, being a good guitarist isn't just playing fast licks. If you can make a guitar solo without fast licks, I think you're a great guitarist too. I'm not saying people like John Petrucci and Steve Vai can only play fast licks, but don't say Slash is an overrated guitarist, cause I think he's not.

  • LOL! Why can't others say slash is overrated? Oh right, because you said. I love slash but he's popular because of his guitar riffs, not solo's. Petrucci and vai are much better guitarists. Not even a contest.

  • But I think Slah is overrated, but not about his speed, he is a very good guitarist, but some people is always naming him like one of the best Rock guitarists ever, when only Rory Gallagher, Eric Clapton or Stevie Ray Vaughan are a million times better than him.

For me, Slash is very repetitive, he only uses simply Blues scales and "pirubirubirubi" every time, finally all sounds the same.... , but is only an opinion. ;)

  • Great song, but why do you using the same picture's over and over again?

  • All I really can say is the solo of In The Name of God. You can bash me all you want for picking a "speed solo" but that solo is seriously mindblowing. Such speed and yet such a perfection. It's like the notes aren't even picked, they're just flowing out in a constant stream.

Petrucci is a man who likes to combine fast with emotion and he's one of the few I've heard that actually manage to do that well.

  • I agree with you. Jordan really makes that solo.

    It's got so much flow.

I also love the solos in Stream of Consciousness.

So fast, but they're still very emotional.

  • Stream of Consciousness is one of my all-time favorite instrumentals by DT :) Great song, really fun to play (though I can't handle the solos and the faster parts yet :( )

  • Oooooh!

    I play that song too!

    Also one of my favourites.

I still haven't properly learned the solos so I improvise over them.

  • thats because theyre not picked

there is a tonne of slurring in the solo

  • I know most of the notes are hammer-ons and pull-offs, but the way he makes it flow is just outstanding. I've heard other people play it, but no one have done it as good as Petrucci.

  • Of those four were listing, for me it goes:

    Steve Vai

    John Petrucci

    Joe Satriani

    Buckethead

Slash(he would be first but where not talking about him)

  • i think there are many more guitar players that are better than Slash, he is just really famous overrated guitar player.

He does not belong with the other four you listed him with.

  • skinny john pterucci > hulk petrucci

  • soon the guitar is going to be morphing into john lol

  • I like petrucci and buckethead more than steve vai or joe satriani.

  • same
