I'm very disappointed as well. I really wanted to get the MS Courier based on the videos showed. I was super super excited about getting it too, but it never came out. MS courier is just a great idea, and seems more exciting than the ipad or xoom.
If anyone here wants to see something that sorta inspired the MS courier, youtube Microsoft Codex. that is the prototype that MS courier is based on.
I couldn't be more disappointed, I was thinking to purchase the Courier as soon as it come out, it is a petty,. well lets hope there are other options in the future. Thank you for keeping us up to date.

I e-mailed Steve Ballmer about the Courier and his response was that they were working away and that was all he could say. My question was if it existed and if it was going to be released. Also, the Lenovo U1 tablet and the Notion Ink Adam have canceled their release date. Apple will start to duplicate features from all the competitive tablets that have failed to be released and take over the entire tablet market (no good).
People HP Slate not cancelled it has been rescheduled for October instead. So yes why would they cancel and hot item which has all important features which ipad does not have. :)

Apple have realised this and released the iPad because it has such a simple OS and you don't have to worry about viruses. Google too is making a web based OS because they realise this. This could be the beginning of the end for Windows.

The courier and slate were devices that were conceived because all of the hype prior to the release of the iPad. Every company wanted to have an answer to the iPad. Current estimates for sales of the iPad are around 1 million approximate sold since April 3rd- that is incredible by any measure. There is no way the courier or the slate would of sold anywhere near that.

putting two screens togheter lol there is a reason Apple didnt do that and why that isnt popular these days. And what happens if one screen dies? or rips off? or something comes in the middle of the screens while you shut it, its gonna crack both sceens, holding a type of book in my arm or using both hands just to hold it infront of me is just not user friendly.
When i saw the title, i thought that my day would be ruined, but when you think about it, there are a lot more promising tablets coming out, like that little 7-incher you told us about as well as some cool msi tablets that were at CES.

I'm actually glad they canceled the Courier. Originally I thought it would be my first MS purchase in years, but once I realized it was super limited and the iPad was much more bang for the buck I knew what I'd purchase and they just confirmed that.

Well IMO it wouldn't have been a huge success. At first I thought the courier was amazing and wanted it over any future apple tablet, but once the iPad was announced I realized I would rather something that did everything rather than just take notes and surf the web. And the HP Slate is a no brainer because it has been proven over the years that a desktop OS does not succeed in a tablet even when they throw on a modified touch UI.

just think about this for a sec:
no one wonted a tablet PC before the iPad came out. now everybody wants one. As soon as apple released the iPad, tons of rivals started introducing their own tablets.
Like it or not, Apple is a industry changer.

hp slate was a non-starter, so no surprise its been cancelled.
Real shame about the MS Courier though if true. What apple do so well it that they don't really follow anyone. They go and do what they think people need. Ofcourse they've missed the target with the iPad imho (its not a must have product by any means). Wish a company like Microsoft who have the ability, would just drum up courage to actually do something original and game changing.

HP Slate DEAD ? GOOD that was a joke from the beginning I know im a Mac guy but i was NEVER EXCITED OR UNBIASED to that rubbish, BUT MICROSOFT COURIER TABLET ? Yes i so wanted that ! im so so so angry microsoft killed that because its something id prefer over the iPad ! ahhh ok ok HP will put WEBOS on the tablet...if thats the case ILL GET THAT ! you cant run desktop os on a mobile device, its STUPID ! so i cant wait for webos on the HP slate ! but stupid stupid microsoft !

Hearing the the Courier is cancelled was the saddest day in my life :(. Oh well, guess I'll just get the Archos 5 unless MSI's duel-screen tablet really does come out.

I would use a tablet with Windows, if I could afford it, rather than an phone OS, like the iPad, which is not worth the starting price of $499.
I think the HP Slate is pretty nice, I think they may just be saying that, and then come out with a bang.
The Microsoft Courier looks rather nice, but kinda bulky.

putting two screens togheter lol there is a reason Apple didnt do that and why that isnt popular these days. And what happens if one screen dies? or rips off? or something comes in the middle of the screens while you shut it, its gonna crack both sceens, holding a type of book in my arm or using both hands just to hold it infront of me is just not user friendly.

When i saw the title, i thought that my day would be ruined, but when you think about it, there are a lot more promising tablets coming out, like that little 7-incher you told us about as well as some cool msi tablets that were at CES.

I understand them canceling because it would have failed, but they do it to purchase another failing technology?? Thats crazy Palm is dying and I doubt HP will save them or be able to use them.
I'm actually glad they canceled the Courier. Originally I thought it would be my first MS purchase in years, but once I realized it was super limited and the iPad was much more bang for the buck I knew what I'd purchase and they just confirmed that.

@thatsmynamedude Palm as a company aren't doing to well but their OS is very good and with development could be fantastic and the pre and pixi's arent bad as smartphones go. this actually could be a great move for consumers

Well IMO it wouldn't have been a huge success. At first I thought the courier was amazing and wanted it over any future apple tablet, but once the iPad was announced I realized I would rather something that did everything rather than just take notes and surf the web. And the HP Slate is a no brainer because it has been proven over the years that a desktop OS does not succeed in a tablet even when they throw on a modified touch UI.

@thatsmynamedude The iPad doesn't do everything, it has an OS that's also on a phone, some achievement there.
I've never had a problem on a XP based tablet, I loved it, in fact my doctor uses a Windows based tablet.
Tablets didn't work back in XP's first showing, because we didn't have the technology, no we have Core i7's and stuff, and it's much better.
I'd rather buy the HP Slate, rather than an iPad, at least I'm spending money for something, instead of a iPod Touch on steroids, size wise.

@Ivan1984Apple Envy of what? I don't envy a person with an iPad, especially since the wifi version has had problems, and it runs an phone OS, might as well get an iPhone, hell it's cheaper, which is sad, how could they have problems with wifi? I'd expect more problems with 3G.
Please, I'm 19, almost 20 in a few weeks.

@thatsmynamedude I noticed, if people favor Apple over all others, they always assume other stuff will fail, just like Steve Jobs, if you've ever seen Pirates of Silicon Valley, Steve Jobs would always dish it out and bash people, but Bill Gates won't do that, Apple at ever chance they get bashes Windows and Microsoft, at WWDC, etc. I've never seen Microsoft bash Apple in such a way, never.

I think Microsoft could find something to bash Apple for, maybe bash them for bashing them, but you see Microsoft isn't a sore player.
I don't see Boeing and Airbus fans going at it like I do Apple and Microsoft. I prefer Boeing over Airbus, do I bash Airbus fans, no, heck I even like some of Airbus's aircraft, despite preferring Boeing.
