  • Ignorance is abundant. "middle class"? Despite Obama's use of the phrase, NOT in America, it's from socialist countries. Your hatred for the wealthier is unbelievable. Ever seen a poor person employ others? How many homeless people have employees? "Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his servants, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's" Exodus 20:17 The poor can get rich, the rich can get poor. It's your choice. But it's easier to blame others.

  • "Blessed are the middle class" hahah

  • Even though I think Shane is more evidence of our failure to teach economics in school, you gotta love his passion and willingness to put his "money" where his mouth is. I wonder what would happen if we weren't afraid to follow our passions to the glory of God (read: believe the Word, no matter what it costs and find out who He's made us to be, without asking anyone's permission)? Because even if we're confused about the details, when we're listening, He can teach us. And that's awesome.

  • Some huge leaps in logic. When Christ taught blessed are the poor, does he really mean the monetary poor or morally bankrupt? The constant errors from liberal modernistic emergent church will cause doubt on the word of God when they do not agree, but take that one verse that sounds like what you believe and is uplifted as the truth of the bible. Matt 7:1 is everyones fav verse. Of course, only conservatives are imposing their thoughts on others

  • @daveme7 I think he was talking about monetary since jesus also told the rich young man to give all of his monetary possesions to the poor not moral possesions, and follow him.

  • @Crayolakid1 Definetly withMatthew g9iving all that money back and else where(not sure here or a different video) when someone tells a crowd about how Christ told soldiersto be satisfied with their pay and miss a big time huge error-Romans did not let poor people serve in the military. For me,if one says because he relied on money and a test of olbediance to the gospel-I can see that especially when Christ taught to repent and believe the gospel-repent as abandon hope in what you trusted in.

  • this guy tries to pass off socialism as Christianity. it is sad that he is so famous.

  • @UntoldxLies19

How does that differ from passing capitalism off as Christianity? Anyway, Christianity has more in common with socialism than with capitalism. See the Acts 2 congregation model. It's the driving force that differs - i.e. Jesus.

  • @zsifk i never said he should try to pass capitalism off. many capitalists believe in giving to the poor, and to charities, like Christianity does; so i don't know if i agree with saying socialism is more Christian like. what i was trying to say is that Shane, Instead of just saying he supports socialistic ideals, tries to hide behind the title of Christianity. He tries to confuse the issue.

  • @UntoldxLies19 Capitalism, practically by definition, relies on growth for growth's sake. Such accumulation of unnecessary wealth is tantamount to gluttony. The whole set of social disparities is bad icing on an already terrible cake.

  • @zsifk Here is where it goes sideways-1. Those who shared because they were not in their home country. It was not so much that someone re-distributed riches but gave of themselves for brothers and sisters in Christ. Perhaps this is what influanced Pastor James to use na similar example in Jakmes 2? Clearly and biblically much did happen in free enterprise as also in the year of Jubilee is when all debts were forgiven and land returned to t\the original owner.

  • Along with this, God made quite a few provisions for charity. They only got taxed(some think the tithe was a tax until they asked for a king) when they asked for a king. There is ,much on this even when people doubted when led by a clound by day, fire at night, never allowed to save food from one day until the next as they relied on God-see quite a bit as that on the ideal of faith.

  • @UntoldxLies19 I agree. And this guy obviously has passion, which is awesome. But I'm really un-stoked about Christians who focus on the difference between rich and poor and a really fragile understanding of economics, when the problems with Wall Street (for instance) is Godlessness. Although we're commanded to take care of the poor (with no caveats), social justice can be a really superficial replacement for the substance of God.

  • @stadler72 Have you ever read anything by Walter Wink? He is a very interesting person who wrote about social justice and christianity. His books, at least samples, are found on google books. =)

  • This is guy is beyond words and beyond a simple idea and beyond hate, something that plauges so many people today in their political and religous theories and life.

  • I don't always agree with all Shane says, but this guy has the right heart. I love the passion he has for others and the poor. He really challenges you to get off your butt and be Christ's hands and feet

  • this guy is a joke, he's a rotten socialist and he consistently claims that religion and politics shouldnt mixed. hypocrite

  • i like to think of his ideas as "democratic socialism" socialism by choice, not by force. socialism can exist privately within a democratic system. people who choose can live socially and separate themselves from capitalism. "If I give all I possess to feed the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing."-1 Cor. 13:4 NIV it has to be a choice you make from the heart not because law forces you to. that's the beauty of living in a free society.

  • @o0katiekins0o u r 100% correct great point

  • @jescarpita wow... that's the only time i've ever disagreed with someone on youtube and they didn't counter with a swear-word filled tirade! thanks! i really appreciate that you take my point in a very mature way.

  • @o0katiekins0o ur welcome, no need to make enemies. u made a great point and i acknowledged it simple as that.

  • @jescarpita just want to acknowledge your very mature response and give you props. lots of people don't have the same courtesy.

  • Jklseattle; In Shane Claiborne book Jesus For President he addresses Romans 13 with a lot of detail. Just wanted to let you know.

  • Jesus came for all dear Shane.

  • bah, religion and politics don't mesh well.

  • @saintbernie beautiful heart.

  • I'm a pretty conservative Christian in my theology, fundamental theology etc, and I still have a soft spot for Shane. He gets his facts wrong quite a bit but mostly it's harmless stuff like claiming America invited the AK47 etc, but his heart is amazing and he really cares for the poor. He bears good fruit. Instead of attacking the fundamentals of Christianity (Rob Bell etc), he picks on America's hypocrisy.

  • Shane's views dont automatically translate into socialism...he's a smart guy: he understands the government's limitations, the abusiveness of policy, and in-eloquence of government.

  • Shane makes me want to be a christian again. The rest of you flat earth creationists make me glad I'm not.

  • We need more "Shanes" in this world; real representatives of Christianity.

  • @dastoybuzz - I challenge you to re-vist Christianity and make a committment to

Christ on your own terms and live the life you are called to by Him - unbastardized by religion. You don't have to follow the status quo or confrom to the popular belief systems that destroy what the real love affair with God is meant to be. Shane is an example of what that looks like - radical, passionate Love for Christ!

  • i agree with yantski. faith isn't measured by who you see failing or succeeding on your right or left but the perfect savior you see before you. i think Christians get so caught up in doctrines and idioms and the red tape of religion because it's easier than having a real relationship with Christ. and I understand why. truly knowing Christ means challenging what you always thought you knew constantly. and it can be frightening and exhausting. for some, it's just easier to put God in a box.

  • @dastoybuzz lol.. people's theological beliefs regarding the way that god created the world either brings you closer or further to them? honestly?

  • @Vinny192 I can appreciate his point of view and the literal interpretation of being "christ-like". If you're going to be a believer I think it's important to go big or go home.

  • @dastoybuzz well...who says you couldnt be a christian the way that shane is a christian? nobody says you have to be a creationist maniac. im a christian but the radicals and conservatives discuss me

  • @dastoybuzz *disgust. sorry...auto correct

  • @dastoybuzz The bible never said that the earth was flat. Creation is an ineresting study. And faith can be simple. =)

  • @dastoybuzz A relationship with Christ is what should make you want to be a christian, your faith should not be subject to other people.

  • @saintjohn86

    America = modern Babylon

You're not making it any better, and I don't think your kind of hate for other individuals makes you any different from Obama.

Remember: All sins are equal in the sight of the Lord. You are just as bad as the LGBTs.

  • Jesus hung around the social outcasts and such of his day and age: the prostitutes, tax collectors (IRS), the lame, mute, blind, diseased, outcast, as well as the working class. Many think of the LGBTs as being of that kind of people, therefore if Jesus walked around today he'd be good friends with them. He wouldn't be partying with the "elites" of society like many claim they are.

Also, shane is good at not caring what he looks like. So if that means he looks like a "dirty hippy" who cares?

  • SaintJohn86- don't LGBTs deserve to be loved? Thank God He does not pick and choose who he loves! We're ALL imperfect. We cannot be the ones to throw stones.

I sure hope you don't cut your hair because the bible says not to do that either! And heaven forbid that shirt you're wearing is a cotton poly blend.... can't wear clothes made of more than one fabric! (polyester should be an abomination on its own) Even if you choose to disagree, doesn't it just seem better to love EVERYONE?

  • Man, is there any way to read the comments that are rated really badly? I would probably rate seattle's comment a thumbs down too, except I've never seen it.

  • what about Christians in "axis of evil" countries pr nazi germany???...would you suggest that they submit to their rulers as well?? Rom 13 says that there is NO authority except which God has established...the governments were established to help maintain order - not spread the Kingdom of God...the Church is called to spread the Kingdom of God...this is Shane's message (which he stole from Jesus and the apostles)...by the way, Paul ended up imprisoned and martyred at the hands of the authorities

  • I guess Paul had a hard time practicing what he preached?? or maybe you have misinterpreted what he said?? think about it...additionally, both governments and government contractors are organizations that consist of INDIVIDUALS...so i guess Jesus' exhortations should apply to those people within the organizations...if they choose to follow Caesar (their government) instead of Christ, then who is really their Lord??

  • ps...the "pr" above before "nazi germany" should actually be "or"....

remember...Christ's method for obtaining victory was self-sacrificial love...this is seen throughout his ministry, but was most clearly demonstrated on the cross...Jesus taught us that self-sacrificial love is the most powerful force in the universe......God is Love!

  • i wasn't comparing the U.S. to Nazi Germany....I was quoting from the bible...maybe danais was right : ) ...Paul goes on to say "the authorities that exist have been established by God."...that's pretty straightforward...by the way, the U.S. isn't mentioned in the Bible...too many Christians in the U.S. worship at the altar of patriotic nationalism...they interpret the bible through a red, white, and blue lens...i'm afraid that this is why so many of us miss the message of Christ...

  • also, another quick word of advice...Christians are called to imitate Christ...."Christian" means Christ-like....i don't think that Christ went around calling people "dumb" or "blindingly stupid"...we are to love one another...John 13: 34"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." your most important witness is not what you know, it is how you love...God bless!

  • i gave u a thumbs up, but listen u talk way too much. let other ppl get an equal space on the comment board here

  • " its cheaper pay someone welfare than it is to keep them in prison."

Very much so agreed, however what does the government get from paying welfare in comparison to imprisonment where they get FREE labour. It is clearly in THEIR best intrest to build *investment* prisons WHY? They are creating employment. Welfare is collected from the tax payers! The deception is the gov pays it but if they can get free labour NO wonder they are beefing up their police force.

  • How are you preparing for welfare cuts? We are building 5 new prisons.

Do people know that its cheaper pay someone welfare than it is to keep them in prison.

A least with welfare payments the money is put back into the community.
