I saw some chick a couple of years ago on some talent search show do a DEAD ON impression of Grace Slick. They ought to find her and put her in place of the girl who is desperately trying to sound like Grace (and ain't makin' it).
@keo774 Why would you say such a dumb terrible thing? I mean he is a great musician and plays a pretty mean bass guitar to boot. No christmas cards for you! Pughas mahone!
"i was on the 1971 concert tour with them and it was craig playing lead then and he was only 17 years old"
That's B.S. Jorma and Jack didn't leave the band until the fall of 1972. Listen to "30 Seconds Over Winterland" if you've any doubts. That tour supported the Long John Silver album.
The next time they played live it was as the JEFFERSON STARSHIP and they opened that tour at the Chicago Auditorium in early March 1974.
youtube used to have the original album " blows against the empire" with the song "starship" with jerry garcia's opening guitar solo. has anyone seen it on youtube lately?
Between the confusing arguments, I think it was said that "Craig" was the lead guitar player that night? Can someone please confirm whether that's the peerless Craig Chaquico? It sure reminded me of him. Guess I still think of him with all that hair. The man just has a sound like no other guitarist. What a clear, beautiful tone he was pulling from that guitar--whoever he was.
Shit, it better be him now, or I'll have to nominate myself for the coveted YT "Asshole Comment of the Week" award.
thats mark slick anhular playin on this video but i was on the 1971 concert tour with them and it was craig playing lead then and he was only 17 years old
Yes, this is a spectacular performance, look at how cool and anarchic JS conducts their stage presence as the music soars. This music crys out for full symphonic orchestrial treatment as well! Terrific posting!
i see what your saying, you gotta really be into the whole conceptual thing they had going on with this album, its easier to appreciate after a few listens in my opinion, lyrics are great as well.
@JackBlair2 wth? i'm a hippie still at 54 and i'm so shocked at your statement. peace is all we ever wanted, and we never got it even to this day. your kind scares us
I have seen Paul and his Starship at least 35 times since the early 70s..I seen them July 23 2008 at B B Kings...Does anyone have video of the show ...Paul is the best
i never got it........love all the airplane stuff up to 'creation' and some songs after that.......even alot of jefferson starship.........this stuff always seemed painfully meandery......isn't slick agular an axcellent lead guitar player?
got to be in the last three years - David is in the band- but I'd guess in the last year, looking at what they are wearing. I've probably got the whole show somewhere around on DVD.
i just saw them last year...paul was wearing the same outfit....and looks about the same shape as then.....I am very very thankful i got to see him...i believe him to be a musical genius...a truly underrated artist
Steelwind opened all shows, Craig played in both bands EVERY SINGLE NIGHT OF THE TOUR. I am listening to the Providence RI show RIGHT NOW and before Chrome Nun Grace clearly introduces David F. on KEYBOARDS and says..."later in the show he'll play bass." (i.e. during the encore!) Also, I know by just listening to this show that is NOT Peter on lead guitar. Before the encore Grace says... "we're going to trade things up, David Frieberg..."(then it cuts off)
Nope, having reviewed both of our posts today, I'd have to say you are the rude one and the one, spreading rumors and lies. I still can not believe you would doubt a member of the band's memory. He was there every night. Quite rude and to say what you said about JK not returning his phone calls is both a lie and extremely rude! I also can't understand why you would think someone is rude or self important for being exasperated at your question of "who recorded something in 1974?"
I was there my memory is pretty good...maybe it was 34 years ago...and I getting a little ....nahhh This was the show with Jack Traylor and Steelwind right?
PAGE 266 in Jeff Tamarkin's book supports exactly what I've already tried to explain to you!! YOU are the only person in the world that thinks that Peter played lead through out the entire 1st tour. Congratulations. Peter's lack of memory is an act he uses when he's not interested in answering questions. Trust me. When he wants to, his memory is sharp as a tack. When he doesn't want to, it isn't.
Wrong. Peter played a 6 string Alembic bass on that tour. He took it out of the closet and showed it to me. He bought it off of Jack. Peter remembers correctly. Craig was most certainly the lead guitarist on that tour. Peter kicked ass on bass & it was 6 strings so perhaps you just didn't realize it was a bass? There are plenty of photos of Craig playing w/JS during the spring of '74 tour.
Peter only played the Flying V for the encores. Craig was the lead guitarist & Peter played bass for most of the show. David only played bass during the encore. Trust me, I know. Peter told me.
This album has been in my top 5 favorites since it was new, always will be.

Met Martys Dad the SOL show in Northampton...JS is billed as Marty Balin in The City, Labor Day,he is the most vital singer. DM is the candy tho.
Mona qms & Jane JS....were the best songs IMO, both sung by Frieberg pride of Man honorable mention.
