I was there, the guy said " PLAY ROCK!" i think the guy wasn´t a Radiohead fan, but jajajajaja the concert was epic! I was like a year in Vancuver and that concert was magic!
The screaming guy is just yelling. like "YYeEEAH!!" or "let it rip!" or something, and then thom says "shut the fuck up! you ain't funny, you just don't get out much"
50 bucks a ticket. General admission. I showed up in line at about 12 ands the gates opened at like 520 or so because of a delay, and anyways i sprinted and ended up about 3 rows back.
ruined every concert I'll ever see from then on. Amazing. I camped out over night, didn't get a whole lot to eat, I'd had my wisdom teeth out 2 days earlier, singed all the hair off my arms trying to keep warm over a portable stove, got soaked.....but it didn't even matter. I still dream about that concert....
Plus my friend caught Jonny's pick, and I got to touch it. :)
There are assholes everywhere... not much you can do about it. I was right next to one at the LA show sunday. kept saying "LETS GO HOLLYWOOD". shut the fuck up man. jesus.
I LOVED this show!! Danced 90% of the time, and I'm sorry to anyone who was pissed that I was enjoying myself. I thought Thom was heckling us ppl for singing along, glad to hear that wasn't the case.
he should have been. people singing along at concerts is fucking obnoxious. i paid to go see the artists, not you. shut the fuck up and enjoy yourself silently. thank you.
CERTAIN PARTS of CERTAIN SONGS lend themselves to singing along, sure. but during faust arp, exit music, etc. SHUT THE FUCK UP. paying for a ticket entitles you to attend the concert, not to disregard common courtesy and annoy the people around you. don't be so self-absorbed.
Yea the asshole was screaming his head off like a freak while Thom was trying to give a good performance....god there are some real dicks in this city...he should of haf his ass booted!!
This was an amazing concert, 1st time at T-Bird and 1st Radiohead concert. They were brilliant. I jokingly tell everyone it was all lip synced because Thom and company were flawless. Thom's vocals were amazing, Ed looked smashing in his suit, the brothers looked like they were having more fun then anyone, and Phil was a walking metronome.
Question though:
As i was high & dry (upper back part of the bleachers/song reference) what did the heckler say during this song?
people who want to listen to the band and not the people around them. if i paid $75 for radiohead, i want to listen to radiohead, not the people around me.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
if you don't want the full concert experience, buy the dvd. This is a good example of how people from Vancouver don't know how to act at live shows. Bands don't like playing for a crowd of glazed over mannequins, they want the audience to be into it. Just because you're self conscious of your monotone doesn't mean you have to bring everyone else down who's trying to milk the experience of seeing their favorite band. you can sod off you can.
What? I thought we were a great crowd! And the band loved us! Aside from that heckler, which just let us see Thom's funny side so I don't even mind he yelled out one thing, we were VERY enthusiastic! Hell, too enthusiastic sometimes, but not like glazed over mannequins at least. Were you even at this show?
Problem is, he wasn't yelling out one thing. I was right beside the guy, he was yelling for 5 minutes straight. Most of it just wasn't picked up by the cameras.
Ah, I see. I feel bad for you then. As my sis said at this show, 'Sometimes you just gotta punch some backs.' You all should've knocked him out straightaway...
You've don't have to be jumping up and down, crowd surfing, or pushing to be "into it". In fact, the band discourages crowd surfing.
Thom said himself, "settle down boys" a few times, and later extended that by stating this is "not a Rage Against The Machine concert" for a good reason.
i'm sorry, i didn't mean to condone crowd surfing. wait, i actually never did in the first place. when did i ever say anything about violence being alright? i hold to my comment about Vancouver having shitty concert goers though; when there's a rape relief tent right outside a RADIOHEAD concert you know something is terribly wrong. Vancouver should be renamed Merrit Sr.
We don't have shitty concert goers. Bands love us. U2 stayed in Vancouver 2 weeks longer than necessary in '05 because they liked it here, The Killers closed their Hot Fuss in Van. and came here 3 times, and the Spice Girls (I know they're not a band and they are shit, but still counts for my point) opened their comeback tour here even though they're not Canadian.
an audience that's "into it" doesn't require hecklers, excessive pushing, and screaming that drowns out the BAND - which is the reason anyone goes to a concert in the first place. if i wanted to listen to a bunch of people singing out-of-tune and loudly i could go to one of a million college parties. people need to have some self-control at a concert, and be considerate of the people around them.
ya you're right, there should have been specific seating arrangements too and posters that explained the etiquette of clapping. There's a difference between being passionate about what you're watching and fitting in at a Korn concert. The fact that you immediately made the assumption that i was defending retarded frat boy behavior leads me to believe that you are used to this sort of mindset. Given that you are clearly from Vancouver (the land of Nickelback fans) you are forgiven.
How's that for assuming? First I live absolutely nowhere near Vancouver. Your point about my assuming you were defending "retarded frat boy behavior" is fair enough. But, I still maintain that singalongs are detrimental to the enjoyment of the concert for lots of people. Dancing to yourself? I don't mind, as long as you don't get in anyone else's way. But by singing, everyone around you has to hear it no matter if they like singing along or not.
I was really close to the heckler; he was yelling for about 5 minutes nonstop about how everyone needs to get moving, that we were "slowdancing" to Radiohead, a band we may never again have the chance of seeing. Most of it doesn't seem to be picked up on videos I've seen, since they're pretty far away from where he was. This was just when he got particularly loud.
That was a major piss off for me too! Was it because many of the people either shoving or jumping up and down non-stop were teenagers? Not all of them, but many of from that age category.
Anyway, the show in Montreal was nothing like that at all. Everyone was engrossed in the performance, experiencing Radiohead in awe.
i agree with the yelling part but i see no problem with singing along to the songs. (as long as youre reasonably tone concious and dont do it TOO loud)
Yeah, I don't know what happened. Everything was going fine, and then all of a sudden the crowd started pushing continually. It's no fucking fun when all you think about is whether you'll be able to keep your balance or fall to the ground and get stepped on...at some point I got crushed so badly I was sure I was gonna pass out. The worst pit I've ever seen.
