I preferred them together 10xs more that with his new partner. Lera was original and unique, she put more personality and arm movements into things. They where almost making finals when he was with her at Blackpool, then he split and he went down 4 places. The only reason he's in finals know at Blackpool is because 2 of the worlds top Russians boycotted the UK comps, along w/the Italians, freeing up 2 places for Semi finalists.
I think you have to find a balance between showcasing the girl and just standing around (quite hard for example in a basic Rumba). I think that he does not exaggerate the showcase. I mean what else should he do while shes making the swivels? There is not a lot you can do without taking the risk to lose the lead
Im a lain dancer, I know about leading and following.. In this routine it's not balanced.. I can tell shes the stronger one in the partnership because he stands there leading her which basically means he has no technique whatsoever.
Ermm well look when the girl is doing swivels and hip twists constantly where hes lunging or standing there.. Its good to do it once or twice but through most of the routine it isnt.
You know the concept of leading and following right?
Well, in most of the cases you should be standing still in a split weight and using your body rotation to lead the girl in swivels. I rarely see anyone doing this any other way.
The only thing I noticed is that he is not leading her using his hands, but rather his body. She is working off the resistance from his body - this is perfectly fine in my opinion, even if slightly risky in the sense if the lady is moving with more and uncontrolled energy she could knock the gentleman off balance with too much pressure while pushing off of his body. Valentin is a fairly strongly built, standing around 5'10" with a physique to go with it, so I am sure he can handle it.
I didn't say he couldn't handle it, i'm saying without a hand connection there is no leading or following going on, yeah he uses his body but judges will not mark him down for that... and your not meant to do that.. look at all the professionals and top amatuer, hand connection is one of the main aspects in latin dancing.. It's my opinion, you don't need to reply if you don't like it..
omg hahahaha i had to sign in to post a reply to this... ask ANY top latin dancer today and they will tell you that you should never lead from your hand b/c it screws up the connection and your body actions. i'm not sure who you take lessons from but i suggest you switch coaches.
thats wot pro latin is all about, the fact he can just stand there nd lead the girl shows the strength in the partnership. if you look closely when they're just cnnected through one hand he has a very strong grip on her nd can lead her however he wants, thats wot dancing at this level is about, showing the strength of the connection.
what are the names of the dancers?

I'm sure you have no problem answering this question, if you're a good latin dancer:
Where does lead originate from?
