This guys passes were amazing for a big man. He never look like he was rushed or having a bad game. He played like he knew what he was going to do before he did it. He looked more like a tackle more than a center, but his style is something the NBA will never forget!!!!!
its funny to think he was on the jai1-1b1azers....he seems nice haha....but i cant be1ieve nobody has footage of when rasheed threw a towe1 in his face....shit was stupid
Not many people out side of Blazer fans know how good he actually was in the NBA, even as hobbled as he was. Great shooter, great post up game, best passing big man ever, great rebounder and was a real presense defensively inside.
@XxSaf3HandsxX Portland had rights from 1985. It would have changed the Lakers-Celtics dynasty of the 80's and Jordan would most likely have only 2 or three rings. Its unfair to Magic, Bird, and Jordan however, it would have changed the history. Portland had fundamentally sound teams that entire time, Always just a peace of the puzzle from being a huge part of NBA history. Blazers always seemed cursed after 77.
@ZhylvisLT Yeah, but since Gasol went to LA, the lakers got a final, the same season he arrived, after losing in the 1st round of the playoffs the 2 last years and not even getting in the playoffs the one before, and 2 rings later on, he was decisive.
@AlonsoDomCab Well, i agree with u, Gasol is solid player but not so great as Sabonis was. Does u think Gasol will be euroleague season MVP at 39 year old? Gasol is 31 right now yeah? Sabonis played his rookie season in NBA at this age.
@ZhylvisLT Gasol is a beast and dominates European basketball, he left very early in his career to the NBA, and he went to Memphis. Should we blame him for that? As far as I know, Spain has achieved today its third consecutive Eurobasket final, today in the semifinal he made 22 points, 17 rebounds. Those numbers in Europe are MUFUCKING HUGE. We play here only 40 minutes, and there are a lot of rotations. He pisses on all other 4s in Europe. And so he will against Diaw in the final.
@rmnts Sabonis, like most got caught up in the propaganda of the NBA. The NBA, greed, and Shaq, single handily turned basketball into a circus type game. Basketball is a finesse game, requiring skills and strength establishing position with and without a ball when executed to design is a picture of beauty no other sport can emulate (Trailblazers 77, Lakers with Magic, Boston with Bird, and so many more). Miss-use of strength, and designed rules has transformed the game into something Ugly.
Is there a chance that you still have this mix in your computer and can re-upload it? Today there resolution and the quality of the videos stored in Youtube are better.
@greatlion1981 Now he can join Drazen Petrovic ( another politically motivated charity case ). Hey you know any Venezuelan players that couldn't cut it in the NBA that we can elect into the HOF? That would sure look good.
@ry3304 You actually have the nerve to compare this mediocre player ( at least in the NBA where it counts most), to Larry Bird who had a REAL hall of fame career? What a loser you are. You must be from Eastern Europe somewhere to make such a stupid comment. Besides being mediocre in the NBA, he wasn't even a full time starter you fuckin shithead. And don't compare him to Shaq any more because that's just too much of a waste of my time to respond. Idiot.
@86celtics He still got inducted to the Hall of Fame, enough said. The Cold War robbed him (physically) his best years. Having a great International career also warrants Hall of Fame status. NBA is not everything in basketball.
He deserves to be in the Basketball Hall of Fame. Like Craig Kilborn said from his SportsCenter days "He's not my Vydas or your Vydas, he's Our Vydas!!!"
This guy just got elected into the NBA hall of fame? He wasn't a great player in the NBA. His career statistics don't even deserve consideration. Another clear case of the hall of fame watering down their shrine in favor of promoting an image of multi-culturalism. A women's college coach made it in with him. What a joke.
@86celtics You should see his numbers in his all career not only in the nba by the way find his age when he was a rookie un portland And by the way a woman gives you life?!?! WHAT A JOKE
@greatlion1981 You should see the difference in talent level when he was in Europe compared to the NBA. His '92 Lithuanian olympic team was crushed by 51. And yes his injuries blah, blah, blah. Whatever. Everyone wants to play the what if game. What if's don't belong in the hall of fame and neither does 12PPG, 7.3 RPG, and 1BPG in a 7 year career playing with the best of the best. An American with those mediocre numbers who becomes a star Europe as a NBA reject would never get elected.
@PsychoRealm9 Actually for the most part it IS the NBA HOF as the vast majority of inductees had stellar NBA careers. Most Americans who play in Europe are either washed up, or couldn't make it in the NBA. An American who can't cut it in the NBA but goes on to have a stellar career in Europe wouldn't get into the HOF. Baseball does it also. They want black players and Latin American players ( MLB considers them separate ),to the point of electing individuals with suspect stats (Joe Morgan).
@ry3304 And if Shaq was forced to play by the rules that were designed for the game of basketball Shaq would not had made the NBA, Sabonis finished exposing this fact. The Sacramento Kings had already exposed the greed and immoral ethics of the NBA. The NBA would be something else had they not covered up refs were paid and expected to be partial during key game. The NBA is a racket and you see that today. Dallas did prove good guys can still beat the corruption.
Sabonis was a great player. He is the Russian Bear and would have eaten up Shaq in the high post all day with his perimeter shots. Oh what could have been.

@shaq430 I don't believe in that,i'm historian and i think things are like they are but if you want to argue i just will tell you that he would be injured anyway, and if he wouldn't have injured he would be unbelievable but not better than Olajuwon,Jabbar,Chamberlain,or Shaquille O'neal, more talented but you need more strength in the NBA. I think he's the best european palyer though.Did you ever see Jabbar in his prime? lolhe was the most gifted player ever, & ask Wilt Chamberlain bout dominate
@PhillyDippy5 Sabonis was actually VERY strong at about 292 lbs so i think he would be stronger than most nba big men if he would have left in his prime and i dont think he wouldve been injuered had he left in his prime IMO.. I think if he would have gone to the nba in his prime the only centers that would have been better than hime would be wilt, kareem, and russell but like you said we cant change history so well never know.. and yes kareem was extremely dominant in his prime with the bucks..
what are you talking about you can't decide which player was better by watching one match. basketball is a team game and team effort counts as well. Both players were good. Best of their times. and thats it :)
i really miss watching sabonis, i still get mad we never got to see him in the nba in his prime, some guys have said he would have been one of the top 3 centers of all time
fuck you bitch .. wallace cant even dunk . sabonis can shoot from 3points , dunk , make awesome passes and most important is that he has some brain ! your wallace is no worth to carry sabonis shoes
I've watched basquetball since I was a kid , And there isn't a center to pass like he does. he is really great but he didin't have the spots in the correct time
2:392:534:45 omg. Sabonis was simply the best player ever. Sometime the destiny is so unfair... if that guy wasn't injured so badly he easly become the number one.
I never thought I'd say this ab a sports vid but...simply beautiful. I live in PDX and we were lucky enought to see his great play during the 90s and early 00s. He was also a very humble and greatful man. Good work
It's a damn shame Sabonis never got to showcase his talents in the NBA in the prime of his career. Even in his mid-30s, after being plagued by injuries, he was still putting up 16/10, and guarded Shaq just about as well as anyone else in history. If he had played his whole career in the NBA, there's no doubt in my mind that he'd be a top 5 all-time center. Best passing big man of all time, terrific shooter, shot-blocker, rebounder, everything. Long live Arvydas Sabonis.
@cmason619 When Portland drafted Sabonis it wasn't easy to get those guys over to the NBA. He also was a man of loyalty and Portland only had one executive pushing to get him over. Plus all big men drafted by Portland are or become cursed.
it was pippen's fault why they didn't won the nba championship, pippen can't guard kobe and he was trying so hard and trying to be that "i'm the guy w/ championship rings so follow me" guy. steve smith was enough back then they should've not listened to pippen.
Sabonis, was arguably the best big player to ever play the game (before NBA days) and a solid #2 to ever play the game.

What game are you talking about?
In the 1988 Olympics semifinals, Sabonis scored 11 points(and besides, watching the match I can say he didn't dominate at al) against Robinson's 19.
I watched that match, so I know what I' am saying.

That's not true in that game, Robinson won against Sabonis 19 to 11.
Sabonis was good but he was no way near as good as Robinson.
I watched that match on Skysport Classic, therefore I know about that game.
digiuseppericcardo 3 years ago
but true in that game:Robinson 19pts,Sabonis 16pts.not 11pts
antzheng 3 years ago
@antzheng 0:33-0:50. After the match Sabonis asked to a magazine for the photo of that spectacular dunk, and they gave him a big poster.

Arvydas Sabonis was awesome, one of the best shooters and passers, I'm sad that he retired.

so am I, but i was always worried that his legs would fall off every time he stepped on the court.

2:39 2:53 4:45 omg.

Long live Arvydas Sabonis.
cmason619 3 years ago 8
And if he didn't get that nasty injury.
BalysLTU 3 years ago
@cmason619 When Portland drafted Sabonis it wasn't easy to get those guys over to the NBA. He also was a man of loyalty and Portland only had one executive pushing to get him over. Plus all big men drafted by Portland are or become cursed.

it was pippen's fault why they didn't won the nba championship, pippen can't guard kobe and he was trying so hard and trying to be that "i'm the guy w/ championship rings so follow me" guy. steve smith was enough back then they should've not listened to pippen.
