These performances were recorded in house for SONY for a commercial release on CD (audio only).Like many such "live" recordings, the best of each would have been used to produce one recording. It would have marked Levine's only commercial recording of the opera, Eaglen's first, Hong's first, Pavarotti's second - in one of his few departures from DECCA. It remains in the can. Does anyone know why it has not been released? (Eaglen did go on to record it for Chandos in English.)
@tdeane34 I was there! He phoned in the First Act, then sang the shit out of the second Act, and Nessun Dorma. After that he phone the rest of it again.
@Dymension yes i had that Great Ballo!!He had A GREAT High C at the Ballo duet that I didnot expect truly...yes by the third act he was tired a bit but he did not lose any note!!He was fantastic!!If you also thought that he was at that time 62 y,o!!!
@MariaCallasLegend Absolutely. I was pointing out that as a 62 year old man, he was naturally husbanding his resources for the "big moments", such as the 2nd Act of Turandot, the 2nd Act of Ballo, etc. But he was still able to produce great beauty of tone, and power when needed. He will certainly be missed!
Pavarotti's High C in 62 is great, but Domingo's like King-kong!

What's the problem? Pavarotti could get high C even in his 67.

Interesting that yo say Sony recorded it. Perhaps there were and there are some issues about any of the performers agreeing to release it.
Hopefully some day these issues will be resolved and we will have it on shelf.
Who knows how many such jems are held in the vaults of record companies...

I'd have to say no way is that from 1997. I heard him sing this in 1997 and he did not sound like that.

@tdeane34 The year after he sang Ballo, and smacked the high C out of the ball park in the duet. He was tired by the third act though...

High C at 0:25, at age 62. Absolutely amazing.

@redhotchiliangel Yep, it's great. However Angelo Lo Forese sings a better C as a 90 year old. Check it out.
