@Milkmouse1966 Yep, she was. Because of her attitude towards her studies and sense of modesty, a lot of Japanese people related to her lot. In the anime she also has the most attacks/powers next to Sailor Moon.
FlautistRedemptions Yeah, I noticed that too. Plus, her costume is not as shiny as other inner senshi (Mars, Venus, Jupiter). I also find her knees-touching pose awkard and weak but for me, it signifies her reserved and conservative personality. Just my 2 cents though :D
@FlautistRedemptions Plus, Ami's is one of the best looking overall transformations anyway, wrapping the water/ribbons/whatever around her and spinning to create the outfit... much better than "there's fire or lightning all around, and now suddenly I'm transformed". And the "poor unloved Ami" got her own special show, complete with new transformation and attack, so it's not all bad.
The only thing I'd change.. the awkward knees-touching pose at the end. Her SuperS special pose is much better.
Yeah, I thought Ami's transformation was more practical, since she's actually creating the outfit, rather than covering the screen as if they're trying to create the outfit without you looking. Haruka's transformation is like that too, but I always thought the Outer Soldiers had more boring transformations (my favorite soldiers!)
Anyways, all of them were supposed to have specials (based off of the exam battle stories), but only Ami got one due to budget cuts
But it all really goes back to when the transformations were first drawn in the first season, since all the later ones are modified versions of the first ones. Ami's was the first non-overblown Sailor Moon transformation... they kept it a bit simple, then got a bit fancier later for the other ones.
Still, it does fit her style (would she care about closeups?), & the shot does get close right before the end anyway.
And them most henshin animations, counting "Ami's first love." (next to Sailor Moon)

One question ... between the weak one (like this) and the energetic one (in a movie) which one came first?

@FlautistRedemptions Interesting point.. I never really considered that.
